After the last few wks of cycling around the coast and mountain passes I decided it was time to get the legs working hard again. I haven't really trained this year, I cycled alright but nothing to get my fitness back. This was just a simple test to see where I am. Nothing scientific or crazy, just as about a bit of craic as well. Cycling 100km and doing it as quick as I can.
Bike: Specialized Tarmac Sl8
Glasses: Oakley BXTR Metals

Route: Kilkenny, Carlow, Bennetsbridge and Gowran

Great ride! Just picked up my SL8 in Blue Onyx Thursday, went on first 30 miler/48 km yesterday, crazy fun and fast (for an old guy). Riding next week in north San Diego, Mt. Palomar Gran Fondo. Cheers from Southern California. 🍻

Hi derek. Really enjoying your videos lately. Question, im new to cycling. Been training for years, running, gym, swimming, fithess is decently high but every ride seems like a "drag" or "resistance" on the tires. Im 93 kilos. (Planning to lose weight for cycling) Question is: the pressure in the tires is 50 psi. Basic bike domane al2 trek. Do you think thats enough?? Should i have more pressure in them??

I’m no expert pal, I’m around the same weight and I just keep mine at 80psi. I like a bit more in it. I’m sure there must be apps or that to tell what the exact pressure should be.

When I saw (at 7'23") 32.3 MPH I thought I will give up cycling all together... 32.3 km/h means that I am not totally hopeless.

Also, derek, what tires do you think are best for speed ?? (Apart from hard work and fitness) ive a very stock trek domane AL2. Only worth €1250. Always feels as if theres a ""drag"" or ""resistance"" in the tires when im biking. The tires are at their right pressure. Though im 93 kilos, so i need to drop weight to get faster. Any advice??

Just seen this sorry, yeah I’m sure a few places do it. I know Specialized do a finance option. I’d imagine it wouldn’t be too much hassle in most shops 🤙
