Interestingly, they are probably also a bit confused because their sense of smell is much more acute than their hearing, and they are responding to sound that is missing it’s smell. I guess there are times when they are upwind of the noise source.

@@MVsFavorites I think this would be one of the reasons not to do this test more than the one time-- don't want to reinforce an idea that there's nothing there. But the other reason, I think, after having lived in coyote territory for decades at a time, is that because they are territorial, you wouldn't want to attract the local pack to investigate the "interlopers".

I had never seen guardian dogs in action. That was absolutely awesome Brooke. Foxy, Rocky and Bandit were great! We had a Siberian Husky that was our outside dog, Her name was Tasha. Once we had a repair guy come to the house that Tasha insisted on coming into the house and stayed between us and him. Tasha didn’t growl or bark at him, but she lets us know he wasn’t entering the house without her. She obviously had some concerns. In 15 years, she only ever did that twice. Her instincts were excellent. She also protected me when we were building the house. A group of kids showed up on the property with baseball bats during the build. I went out to greet them with Tasha and Smith and Wesson - asked them to politely leave. One kid stepped towards me with the bat and Tasha took him down immediately and I let the other four know there were nine rounds to take them out. They got in the car and left. Can’t be too careful! I learned to always trust my dogs instincts.

That's honestly one of the main reasons why I have a dog. I tend to see the good in people, often not noticing the not so good. But dogs see it all. And they know when a situation is serious. I would hesitate, giving the person the benefit of the doubt. But a dog would act. My current bodyguard, Bella, is still a puppy at 8 months old. But my Boxer before her, Fiona, knew what she was looking for. And I learned to trust her. If she said, don't go that way, I didn't. And if she said it was time to go in we went in. Most of the time I lead, keeping her close by my side. And she obeyed. But if she touched my hand with her nose I looked to her eyes to tell me what she was warning me about. One night we had just begun our walk around the parking lot. We both heard noises from next door. I had a bad feeling about the noises, but wanted to keep walking. But Fiona told me that we needed to end the walk right then. So we did. We quickly got back inside. It turns out what we heard was an arson setting the house next door on fire. And they were probably very high. It would not have been good to accidentally be a whitness to something like that. So, I'm glad Fiona said get back inside. And I'm glad I listened. Note: No one was home when the house burned down. And the fire trucks showed up very quickly, already having been called.

These dogs are nothing compared to Dagestan Caucasian volkodav, Azerbaijan azeri volkodav, Azerbaijan kanjal, Azerbaijan sylvan volkodav, tusheti volkodav, kazbegi volkodav, kavkasiuri nagazi volkodav. This is light weight work compared to the north caucus mountains, central asia who produces afghan kuchi and afghan gadi of aboriginal type. Pshdar dogs, serabi dogs, romanian bucovina, sarplaninic, and real Anatolian lions (anadolu lions aka turkish lions, not American hybrid Anatolian shepherds). This is a light show of work when it comes to real livestock guardian breeds who do real work without fences and roaming packs of other lgds, predators such as jakyls, bears, striped hyenas, Coyotes, and wolves.

Sunshine and Foxy! 🤩 Good to seem them so well. Look at Foxys smile while being petted 🥰 Treating any animals as anything other than another sentient loving being is just abhorrent to me. How could anyone not give them love... just because they’re ‘livestock dogs’. 😮 Such a shame to hear that, and I don’t understand. Anyway, enjoyed the upload Brooke! Brooke, I was listening to your video and my border collie was sleeping next to me. When Jason played the coyote sound, my dog became alert and when your dogs started barking he stood up and started looking around. It is amazing how tuned-in dogs are! My yard is fenced and sometimes opossums walk across the top of my fence at night because often my dog will bark at later hours of the night and tear outside to chase something (through the doggie door). We have coyotes in my area too (Chelsea, AL) but they can't enter a 6' tall wooden fence!

Great video Brooke! So glad you showed how LGD work and protect. We've had 2 Great Pyrenees and they did an amazing job guarding all our animals. And they were the sweetest pets ever. When i rode my horse, our boy went every time to protect me. They are amazing dogs! When you pkayed the coyote sound my Shipoo was asleep and barked, then when she heard your dogs she jumped up barking at alert lol. She does that when our outside guard dog barks at something. Love that you have 3 wonderful dogs/pets guarding your farm. I dont understand the concept some farmers have about not touching their LGD, I don't think it makes them any better protectors and they miss out on the love and affection. Looking forward to the next video, thanks again Brooke.

Great idea for a video! Oh gosh I could write reams about Livestock Guardian Dogs. In cultures that still use LGDs as they have for thousands of years, the dogs are pets too. That idea about "dont bond with them" is an invention by people who dont know what they are talking about. Also, the tradition is that the older dogs mentor and lead the youngers. I'm sure Foxy is so happy to have a group, they really are meant to work in groups. Having lived with coyotes. I'd say the biggest reason to not do that test again is just that the coyotes are territorial and it could attract the local group to assert their territory. Last thing I wanted to share is we rescued a wonderful Great Pyr and had him on our farm a year before rehoming him to a 200 acre ranch with a lot of animals to watch over, we were moving into town and were so happy when the situation opened up for him. Anyway, while we had him, he orchestrated the neighborhood dogs to respond intelligently when the pack of coyotes would sweep through. Before him, all the dogs for a half mile or more radius around us, and there were a lot of them, would bark constantly, chaotically and frantically, the whole time the coyote pack was around. After him, and I have no idea how he did this, he got it so that only the dogs nearest the location of the coyotes would bark, so that you could tell where the pack was by the location of the barking dogs. As they moved, so did the barking dog sounds, with the surrounding dogs occasionally vocalizing in a conversational way. I know this happened because I have always gone out and listened and watched when I heard coyotes around, and the difference was stark. And it seemed to me the coyotes spent less time in our area after a while of that. It was a wonderful mystery I will always remember.

I think it might come down to the breed of LGD. Some breeds like the Pyrenees & some shepards like their humans. Some other breeds love their animal charges more. Some old breeds are just so independent & aloof. BUT they all deserve love, respect & wonderful care. It just is tempered to each individual dog.
@l.m.4014
@l.m.4014 10 месяцев назад
Well said! > Some LGD breeds are more friendly with humans. Great Pyrenees > These large confident and gentle dogs make great family pets and are excellent with children. Maremma Sheepdog / Anatolian Shepherd / Akbash / Kuvasz. It’s important to socialize all LGDs with humans. > There are LGD Breeds that are more aloof and have a more protective character.... they’ll aggressively protect their territory from any threat. They’re always aware of their environment and suspicious of any strangers entering their territory.

Brooke, you are right and most people don't understand that....Livestock Guardian Dogs are not the same as herding dogs. > Herding dogs...control the 'movement' of livestock. Two different dogs, two different jobs. LGDs aren’t herders > they are protectors.

Oh Brooke that was absolutely AMAZING.. they worked as a team..and Foxy is definitely the leader and she has taught those boys well.. and as you said Rocky doesn't bark..well he sure does when he needs to..obviously there is no need during the day..have you thought of putting a kind of tracker on Foxy to see if she goes around checking ?.. then on the boys too..not sure what you'd need to do something like that but wouldn't it be interesting..their reaction was straight away..imagine when the boys have outgrown their puppyhood .you'll have 3 awesome guardians there..and I'm sure they'd be the same if Jessie gave an alert too.. I think you need 3 to cover the acreage you have..I'm a believer in fate..and god had a hand in that day when you found those boys..absolutely fantastic video..I'm probably not your best friend as I feed our local foxes..firstly let me say I live in a city..since the introduction of wheelie bins foxes have lost a food source..my friend saw one in our rd 2 yrs ago extremely thin and sparce fur..so we began feeding them..we knew they came down our rd because we could hear them..and 2 yrs on we still do it..we found out what they could eat and what they couldn't. .tonight I put them out egg mayo sandwiches .bacon sandwiches and pate sandwiches and some cat food..we have seen thw vixen bring her cubs and they look mighty fine.. her coat was full and shiny..a massive fluff tail and a good weight..I have a neighbour who moaned at me so I feed them where she can't see them..she said they encourage rats. .but I know that's baloney. .Fox urine is potent and rats go nowhere near it because THEY are a food source and also there is absolutely NO FOOD LEFT by the morning..every scrap is gone.. we are all gods creatures. .if we can help one as we go through life..tame or wild I was taught to do so..but thanks again..really loved the experiment. .🇬🇧💞🙏✝️👍👏🐾🐾🐕🐕🐕🐾🐾🇺🇸

I have house panthers that guard.... ME if I'm out in the porch Blue my nebulung sits by the door. That boy has a growl that rivals any dog(scared the bejessus out of me the first time I heard him) random stranger walked up to knock on the door. My house is well insulated so I do not always hear deliveries as most ignore my ring bell sign, my tiny panthers have excellent hearing any noise out of the usual.... Even from a dead sleep they alert ( mostly by freaking out and scrambling through the house at break neck speed). So nice seeing them work ❤ Please tell mc we certainly miss her wonderful information she gave on fowl. Would she be interested in doing voice overs? 😊 Especially the new additions.

I love how they instantly reacted to the potential danger. I also love your decision to check with your friend about doing the test & that it was a one time thing. Y’all have hearts of pure gold & the common sense/smarts to go with it. Your videos never disappoint. Thank You! 👍❤️😁

Goodness, those k9 are working dogs. They patrol and guard all night. The geese are on days shift. Jessie has her patch/herd too.

I would think that interacting with their humans would make guardian dogs more determined to guard their property, either actually guarding their humans or earning their approval.

I have 2 great Pyrenees sisters and I had a set of great Pyrenees years ago. Each time I raised them just like a pet on my farm. Neither time did it or has it hindered them from protecting the farm animals. And my 2 girls also devide the front and back of the farm yard/animals and come together with any threat to the farm😊
