Air Canada In-Flight Wifi wirh Gogo - we check how fast this wireless internet is on an Airbus A321 flight to LAX with Air Canada. See for yourself the speed this connection offers, as we attempt to load web pages and RU-vid videos on a iPad. The Wi-Fi was cheap enough ($5 for an hour), but was it worth it?

I didn't think they would allow youtube to be used. It would use too much bandwidth.

You need a VPN running for RU-vid. The networks are most of the time configured to stop videos from loading, I’ve tried this with a lot of airlines and most have that barrier in place.

Earlier today, I posted the details of an idea to improve WI-Fi for groups of travellers. Now I come back to fiollow up ans see that many of the comments seem to have been deleted?? So far, with no explanation, it's a bit of a wait and see why, but in the interim, I can "pre-publish" it in an independent text file, pending later eventualities.

Using a commercial VPN can be of some help, depending on where you are. I have been told that in India, Sri Lanka and certain other countries, laws exist forbidding all use of encrypted connections. this could also be a concern if one were using any sort of encrypted connection while flying in the airspace of any country with such laws! Hopefully ICAO will take notice of this concern and may do some housekeeping of the airlaw to acommodate technical changes! Also mentioned, was the importance of cabin crews to make explicitly clear when "airplane mode" is permitted, and when electronic devices must truly be totally shut down. for any shortcomings in explicitness that may appear, likely someone here will offer an independent explanation as to why, thus hopefully minimizing prospective passenger concerns about unnessary use of restrictions for less than hospitable reasons.

No, you need to pay for a pass. Price varies depending on the route, but I think they start somewhere around $5 or $10
