Comet, Stellar Pup is such a cursed card. Really makes you wonder why you’d put Oracle in your deck when you could spend 4 mana on Minsc and Boo or Comet or sheoldred or whatever 😢
Yea I cut comet from the cube for just that reason. You play it and flip a coin; heads you win, tails it does nothing and you lose. Not super interesting gameplay.
Comet is interesting because it has the upside potential of very high variance cards, but not really any lows. Worst case, it’s a 4 mana planeswalker that gives u about a card of value each turn, most of that value helps protect it too (the creatures and damage). But occasionally you get crazy double or triple rolls, or just doubles on a few turns and it goes crazy!
martell always forcing tinker/fury/thopter/sword/reanimate/faithless looting/persist with minsk & boo and strip mine. its like jesus let somebody else get it once in a while.
I just find it funny that like 80% of the times he has fastbond, he also has exploration, and that he often draws both in same game, along with the usual variance involved with them, like drawing Them late or without extra lands.😂
I feel like Fastbond is such a trap. It's so easy to dream of the Fastbond - 3 Land - Timetwister openers, but so many of the games you either don't even draw it or get the good old fastbond 1-2 lander where it does basically nothing Even the mid case of playing a 3-4 drop on turn 1 or 2 still requires like 6 or 7 specific cards in your opener, and if they answer it you're playing off the top in a deck that's intentionally land heavy
Between this video and Bosh N Roll's vid yesterday, we really saw the good and bad of Plow Under. It either ended the game on the spot, got boarded out, or clunked up the hand on both vids.
hierarch vs sylvan library when you already have fastbond is an interesting decision. the hierarch is worse than a land if you've got fastbond out. but library cost is awkward if you are already paying lots of life with fastbond... knowing that you get exploration later makes the library the better pick, but not knowing that, its tricky. I think fastbond decks always need something else going on to compete with other vintage cube decks. so I think speculating on the portal over awould have been good, even if the tinker didn't come up. also i think speculating on the thopter foundry over an elvish mystic would be way better. that zuran orb in a pack with library of alexander, brutal that it didn't wheel. I know team draft points towards taking library. but orb makes the deck so much better if you get ranumap or cruicible that i think it would potentially help the team even more to lock in having it. what a fun tough draft.
@@SpaccaspecchiRed aggro with a lotus, so how much skill was it really haha I also had a 2-1 academy splashing forth eorlingas and fable deck that was much more of a “LSV says this card is good” deck where I felt like a genius drafting, but I couldn’t quite get there match 3
I subscribed to you today, should have some time ago. I watch your vintage drafts and I don’t even play vintage. I just like listening to how you evaluate cards and give insights. You have to be at the top of the list in the “best draft player” argument in my opinion. ❤
Shed a tear for Oracle. I wonder how you'd up the power with that concept - make it a 3/3? As-is, but make it 3 mana? Though I think I know how wizards would boost it. If it's your second main phase, and you've cast three or more spells with a vowel in their name, and your opponent has less than 24.5 life, you can turn your deck upside down and play lands from the bottom of your deck. It would also be a 4/5 hexproof for 3 - Wizards, hire me.
I like that LSV knows Sandy will be WR while Sandy knows LSV will be UG. I know neither is 100% but this feels like this UG 1-2 trend has lasted long enough it doesn't feel luck based anymore. I guess someone in the cube needs to take the green cards. All that said, thanks for the content.
You got Heisenberg from Breaking Bad to play?!?! You brought him back to life, taught him Mtg and playing at a top level. You sir surely are an amazing Wizard
I think the problem with Sharp-Eyed Rookie is that fair Aggro starts (and Artifaggro?) aren't really well supported in your cube. But I think the archetype is super cool and has some merit. It gives some nice depth to GW and GU. I think the cube is lacking 1-drops, especially in red. Sure they are not exciting vs Power starts but T1 creatures are still important. Maybe you could try Teething Wurmlet alongside the Rookie/Tough Cookie/...? Not my most coherent prose in this comment, sorry
So much disrespect for the Reclaimer! Gets Library, feed the yard for crucible, thins your deck! I find it awesome when drafting the lands deck. Just wanted to add that in match 1 game 2 i might have drawn the Library and then vamped for a draw 7 since you opponent didn't really have much pressure 🤷
I really don't like manadorks in fastbond-exploration decks. You're already super prone to flooding with 18-19 lands, adding in dorks that just generate mana makes you even more vulnerable. I think swapping out noble for an Esika's Chariot (in the draft) might have been good
8:45 is it crazy to pick the surveil land over savannah? ofc actual duals are cool but a surveil land to fetch with 2 fetches already picked up seems like a great option to have
I figured the Ramunap getting taken in the first pack was a sign someone else opened Strip Mine. But now I’m confused by the Zuran Orb going because he didn’t take it?
Is this discord invite only or is there a link? I’ve wanted to get together some arena based cube drafts together and it seems like that server is the most populated for that type of thing.
Maybe I'm just a hater, but it really seems like there's more than enough variance in vintage cube style formats without also needing stuff like comet around.
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? A woodchuck would chuck what a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. Also I like fastbond.
The Library was a bad pick for this deck over the zuran orb. Your gonna dump your hand everytime unless you get to wheel which isn't much of a benefit.
@@rezzytheskyguy Library is in no way hate draft worthy, considering 2/3 players on the opposing team were aggro and there was nothing indicating either person was playing red as he didn't see any red cards being passed to him its really not that big of a deal. Its not like it was academy or hullbreacher.
I really dont think comet is a good card for the cube. Theres nothing fun about playing it, nothing fun about losing to it or even watching you lose to it over and over again in these weird long shot "deal 16 damage" turns. Its stupid & while variance is supposed to have a hand in card games, its not supposed to be like that. Idk. I just really dont like that card or the way it deflates these videos. You were fine, then you died to one card. Not a 3 card combo, not anything that had to be worked for. Just a 4 mana card that says you lose and cant interact with me on it. Its really annoying.
