Teams around the league started putting cards on the table this month, when the market for free agency opened. Robert Mays chats with PFF’s Brad Spielberger and The Athletic’s Dane Brugler about what this month’s player movement says about the plans teams are making for the draft and what it says about the markets for certain positions this offseason.

I simply choose to refuse to believe that the NFL would choose Daniels over Maye until I literally see it happen.

Maye is this year's CJ Stroud. A big, strong pocket passer but has been around for too long and bored the scouting community, and gave the media an easy guy to hate on. Like Stroud last year, he's the QB2 now as he was back in September and that won't change on draft night.

Maye needs to sit a year, Washington O line is pretty rough at the moment.

Some teams aren’t going to like that his production dropped this past year and his slow release time. However his size and arm talent is incredible. His downsides can be coached such as his footwork. He is incredibly young and had no had a focus on football growing up. He has a lot of room to grow which is exciting. He also is athletic. He will be able to break sacks in the pocket. What’s not to love except for the slow release and other things that need coached?

The Daniels > Maye talk on social media (mostly Instagram) is infuriating. It really only started after Mel Kiper mocked him at 2 in his first mock draft. They see highlight tapes and a Heisman trophy and it blinds them from seeing any of his flaws (lack of velocity on his throws, insanely thin frame (I'd be willing to be he didn't weigh in at the combine because he weighs under 200lbs), inability to attack between the numbers, isn't willing or able to slide to avoid contact). "bUt HiS sTatS!". What about his surrounding cast? 2 WRs that will go top 20 this year, a couple more WRs that will get drafted next year, 2 tackles who are likely going to be drafted in the 1st next season. "But he played against the SEC, Maye played against the ACC and did worse". There were 7 defenses from the ACC in the top 50 in college football, same number as the SEC. JD is a good QB, could be successful in the right spot in the NFL, but is not in the same tier as Maye as an NFL QB prospect. Maye has the size, arm talent (velocity), youth, ability to work between the hashes that Daniels hasn't shown in 5 years of playing college football. And why are they only looking at 2023 stats? Because they're clearly afraid to go back a season before that when Maye had something resembling a real football team around him. JD had 17 TDs to Maye's 38. JD was a Senior, Maye was a RS Freshman. I hate looking at college box score stats to analyze QB play because there are so many variables in competition and supporting cast, but it's funny to me how they ignore the previous season. It isn't close. The Commanders know who they're picking at 2, and it isn't Jayden Daniels.

daniels would honestly work better for the patriots year 1 considering their lack of talent and his play making ability. if the patriots draft maye i could see him flame out (if he`s not mentally tough, because he will struggle big time if he plays year 1 with these recievers)

You want more ammo? 35% of his tds this year came against army grambling and Georgia state. 6 coming from Georgia state in the second to last game of the year to pad his stats for the heisman.

Right. Don't forget Florida, maybe the worst defense in college football last season.@@JJ-zr6fu

I just went through Justin Fields. Next time my team takes a true running QB I'm out for a few years. Stop trying to make running QBs happen. It's not gonna happen. They aren't good at avoiding sacks either; look at the best all time at that, it's all slow guys. Running should be viewed as a defect, along with much of 'playmaking', which needs to be carefully viewed in context of the game/play. So many of Caleb's plays were a waste of energy and should've been quick underneath throws based on pre-snap processing.

@@guyincognito320I'll make it worse for ya: is there a Single Thing CW does that Justin fields can't? 🤣. Nope. But you need to distinguish between play-making & play-calling. And just because you're tired of the Mainstream Narratives, that doesn't mean you replace them with other ones. Narratives aren't truths, so the opposite _of_ a narrative *is* the truth. 1) What rushing QB isn't good at avoiding sacks? Like have you seen Cousins avoid the same % of sacks as Zach Wilson? No. 2) In this alone ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FiiK21VzI_o.html there are at least 15 plays in the first 23:00 or the first half of the game that are due entirely to play- _calling_ but it looks like it's Fields failing to _make_ plays. There's a defect. But it ain't the QB's.

That rationality is precisely why the Cardinals should trade with the Giants for the six get 1 of the top 2 WRs and the Giants get JJ McCarthy
