I watched the show twice or thrice before I read the books and I mostly just adapted to GRRM's written depictions. Much of how characters are described and imagined in the books make little or no sense if you go on imagining the actors in the show. Especially Tyrion, but definitely not only him. Robb in the books is a near beardless auburn-red haired boy aged 14, much younger than his more grown show counterpart. Jorah is very hairy, heavy, and fierce, like the bear represented on House Mormont's sigil. This is just my experience though.

When I started reading the books I imagined them waaay differently from the show actors. :/ My brain just voluntarily made up images based exactly on how they were described. As for Varys and Osha, the actors and the ones in my head look almost the same.

The whole point of cutting Arya's hair was to make her look like a male. Then she liked to dress like a male and not wear dresses. The Sansa of the books is described as beautiful, Catelyn thinks she will become much more beautiful than she is. I love Sophie and find her pretty much perfect as Sansa, but I would expect the Sansa of the books to be more beautiful, the same goes for Daenerys.

Their face features are also generally described to be sharp while Maisie has the roundest face ever and brown round eyes. Also Starks are described as very lean but not short and Arya is supposedly short in the books because she is 9 years old. Maisie is short and petite but i would not describe her as lean in the classical way. The only thing they got right is the brown hair and the fact that she is tomboysh. Definitely not what most people who read the books before seeing the show would picture her . I am not saying that Maisie is a bad actress, not cute or that she did a bad job playing Arya anyway.

Michelle Fairley was 48 at the time of Season 1, whereas in the books Catelyn is 33 when we first meet her, a good 15 years younger. She's also supposed to have a nice rack, because she remembers that on her wedding night, Lord Willam Dustin, upon seeing her bare breasts, joked to Eddard that they were enough to make him wish he'd never been weaned.

And in the books catelyn says, she believes that sansa will become way more beautiful then her one day (and cat is considered as one of the most beautiful woman in the books). If she is right, then sansas beauty will be out of the charts.

Exactly. To me, the book characters, especially the children behave too mature for their age. Like Arya, Brand, or John Snow. Didn't feel realistic, unlike the TV show characters whose age feels appropriate.

The Varys being a Blackfyre theory is more due A) his devotion to Young Griff/Aegon, and B) his close association to Illyrio Mopatis, whose second wife was theorised to be a Blackfyre relative/

It's totally different! 🤓" Not to mention the easy to fix differences like hair colours, skin tones and eye colours that could have easily been fixed using props, wigs, makeup, cgi or hell, hiring other actors. you can't be mad at the casting of the Velaryons then because the actors arent gonna look white no matter what you do. @@stuffynosepatrol it's like I picture a room with red walls and a green lamp. The guy who responded to you gets the red walls right but for some reason makes the lamp orange. You then try to adapt the same room but get the walls green instead of red. It's a noticeable difference so don't try to make it seem like it's on the same league. That being said I really wanted them to get the character details in got right as well, two wrongs don't make it right.

They are both in the same league, they are both massive changes. My point is that aesthetic changes dont matter, but its hypocritical to only get mad over a character having a different race from what they have in the books while ignoring the equally or much more glaring differences in other character designs. I find it suspicious when people are willing to ignore every single other change but for some reason the race change is the only thing that matters to them, it just screams racism to me.
