The Dominican Republic is on the other side of this island, their main exports are copper, gold, nickel, ferronickel, silver and zinc. The Dominican Republic also produced varying amounts of iron, limestone, copper, gypsum, mercury, salt, sulfur, marble, onyx, travertine, and a variety of industrial minerals, mainly for the construction industry. So Haiti must have similar resources. Haiti has been a source of slave type labour for years to Dominican, in the sugar plantations. Apparently its common to lure Haitian workers away from their homes to work in Dominican and they get "trapped" in situations where they cannot afford to get back home, essentially human trafficking. I hope the Hatian people can overcome the corrupt government there. I have trouble believing these are just thug gangs. The US is probably fueling the collapse so they can step in and "manage" these resources like they've done in so many other Central & South America countries over history.
