An aspect of Girls Und Panzer that particularly spoke to me is the way it deals with the classic conflict between tradition and being yourself. While it's not the main theme of the show, its a fairly significant subtheme, on both a micro scale (for Miho & Hana), and on a macro scale, as we see with Chihatan in Der Film & Das Finale.
Most often, this sort of conflict is handled in a way that clearly favors "being yourself" while looking down on tradition and those people (generally older people) who strongly value it.
Girls Und Panzer, however, deals with it by respecting tradition, while still demonstrating the value of being an individual and bringing innovation to a skill or practice.
It's honestly a good lesson for everyone. Join me as I take a closer look at how the series handles this topic.
