IMPORTANT!!!! For ENHANCED mode on hdmi put it on tv mode then go to menu, settings, sources and you can change hdmi to enhanced. This should give you a very nice colours and detail on any device plugged in via hdmi. If the blacks look flat for certain devices then switch it off. I’ve tested it on a normal firestick and HD on Netflix is significantly better than using the tv’s built in Netflix app. I wish I’d bought a 4K fire tv now as I think it would look amazing!
I'm sorry guys, for longest time I wasn't getting any notification from this video. I was shocked when I came back and saw it over 100k views. Normally I answer all questions.
I like this! I'm not ashamed to admit it, I have two low budget 4k tv's. One 60" in the living room and 50" in the bedroom. They both are perfect and have a beautiful picture.
Nothing to be ashamed of. I have One LG Low Bugdet 1080P TV and 2 Very LOW LOW Budget HD TVs on our rooms (One Crown and another Hitachi) I'm even poorer than you, no 4K TV's here hahahah Cheers
@WinchesteR Metal I will advice you to buy an Amaazon firestick or Xiaomi mi box for using IPTV apps. you won't have any issue, even when you change your tv.
Nothing to be ashamed of. I am more impressed when someone tells me they got something good for a bargain rate than if someone told me they paid 2k for Sony.
I've seen countless videos of 4k tvs and this was one of the few which actually impressed me. The colors on that RU-vid video look great. I'm considering getting a Samsung Ku6000 from 2016-17 for €340, but will try to find some Hitachis here in Portugal
Astroc Slopes thank you and glad you found it informative. I too buy tv’s that have been out for a while. My current tv is a flagship Philips from 2017 which I picked up half price. Waiting the extra year and not getting sucked in by the hype is definitely worth it.
Hi IMCE, brought the same model back in 2017, awful unit internet slow to connect plus when the set is switched on the backlight is blue which gets worse over the years. Probably obsolete now. Ordered a new set of back light strips just to give it away.
just picked up the 48" version second hand for £120 ..am only running an old PS3 on it ..but regardless.. the display is crisp and has good color and so far good smoothness and low lag.. my only gripe would be with the shoddy stand (but wall mounted anyway) .. its quite deep so no matter how slimline the wall mount this will still stick out several inches from the wall.. and the viewing angles are limited.. but straight on or a sofas length to the left or right and picture is still fine.. I will be adding a 4k ultra HD Player at a later date.. but for now Blue Ray looks very nice on it. Perfect for what I wanted (pub shed).
@@Altcine I did indeed :) - Thanks !! I enabled the crisper display and took the smoothing off of the PS3 .. lag is minimal that I noticed.. and no judder on racing games either and Blacks look richer now that setting has been enabled :) ~ cheers \m/
I was ready to buy one from Argos after watching your review...Added one to my shopping bag with a soundbar, a minute later the price was of the tv was bumped from 299 to 399.99!!! I'm going with the 379 Toshiba from John Lewis, smaller at 49' but at least its slicker design wise.
Pietrot Maximof ahhh damn! Looks like you just missed out! The Toshiba should perform the same as I’m sure they’re both made by Vestel. At least you get a 5 year warranty 😀
I bought a none smart 50inche 4k Hitachi at sam's club for $302.00 and it has a really beautiyful picture on it later on might buy the smart version of this tv
Today I bought 43 inch one for my bedroom, compare to Sony Bravia 55 inch on my living room, Its really nice, only drawback i would say is its bulky ! Thanks for your review.
Hi ive just red most of the comments after watchin your informative vid about the 50" Hitachi smart tv as id came to the conclusion that this is the tv i'd decided was the best for the price after scrollin ebay for weeks n weeks, Thanks for the info an effort puttin it out there, just one question ... Do you need a firestick even tho its smart internet tv with apps ??
Thanks man, glad it helped you out. You don't really need a firestick, the smart platform was very useable...not the best but you don't really spend much time in there anyway. I used the firestick to see if the hdmi upscaling was any good and it is. I was very surprised by the clean lines because you usually get a lot of aliasing when video is sharpened too much.
@@Altcine Thank You Bro, Very insightful, im not tech savvy at all so its new to me getin a smart tv but upon much indecision an Thanks to Your analysis and Helpful video an input i shall be gettin this tv, is ot ok for internet, googlin stuff etc like youtube vids an if so that will be Safe if the apps go obsolete, Many Thanks once more 👍
@@Altcine If thats the case as you say about google etc for tbe internet would i be ok mirrorin my android phone an usin it for googlin vids to play on the tv then ?
@@andrewsmyth3809yes that's right. The best way is to link your phone to the youtube app etc and do your searching, playlists etc from your phone. All TV web browsers are still rubbish imo
Dejde hiuhnkl no probs. I got this as temporary stop gap and I really regret getting rid of it. I can’t believe so many people trash these cheap tv’s from vestel. The 4k and HD quality was great but the sd processing is extremely good. I just got rid of the tv I bought to replace it as it was extremely poor but cost triple the price. I’m now on my third one this year which is good but this hitachi is worth every penny.
Hi there. I'm considering the Hitachi 55 Inch 55HL7000U Smart 4K HDR LED. What is the difference in it and this one you have reviewed. They are currently the same price.
Hi, from what I can see the sound maybe slightly improved and HDR (says it supports Dolby vision). Take that with a pinch of salt though as even more expensive TV's can't really support the colour range needed for Dolby vision. I tried to find the input lag for gaming as I believe the one I tested was quite slow but I can't find anything. If price is similar then I'd go for the 7000 as you may get slightly better dynamic range on netflix, games etc that support hdr.
No probs, thanks for watching. The only way I know to update is when the company release one and I don't think they do that for these TV's often. Since 2020 they have started to release these cheaper models with Amazon services so they might be a better option in terms of latest features. Amazon versions also have the ability to sideload android apps which is a plus.
It really is a lovely TV, does ENHANCED HDMI do anything? I can't see any difference, well the source is Virgin Media V+ HD box which is about 8 years old sooo...
Lol im so sorry for these late replies lol. The difference is very subtle but it definitely cleans up edges. It's like it adds a bit of clarity but you need a good source to see it.
I’ve had this tv for like 2 years and a half it’s good but I think it’s time for me to get LG tv I think LG TVs are better but it’s to do with ur opinion I guess
Kaiden Plays I’m glad to hear it lasted long! I think it depends on what LG you get, but tv’s are getting so cheap now I’m sure you can pick up a high spec model for a good price.
@@niksgee3538 yeah samsung probably good too. What I like about this one is that they have cost-cut the speakers and the smart-tv instead of the LCD panel. You can upgrade the smart tv functionality (using chrome cast etc) and speakers using a sound-bar but you can't upgrade the LCD picture.
@@MichaelFlatman I got a samsung plasma 50 inche glass panel tv 1080p I'm looking at these or hisense tv 4k hdr but I seen some crappy tv's in past and dont want buy one and it look like my plasma
@@danielholland1188 these are good TVs, but colour wise you probably can't beat plasma without going to OLED territory, these 4K TVs have a kind of restrained colour look to them, mainly due to limited brightness, if you turn off the lights in the room, it will be good. Detail wise these will be really good, but 1080p is still quite good. It depends on the model of plasma, this will beat an old cheap plasma, but a 1080p plasma was probably top of the line, and even now we can't beat that!
Hi, great vid help me a lot I've been looking at this for about 2 days now, I'm going to be using this for games mainly Xbox one s or the newer Xbox one x, don't know if you could do a video for gamers as I'm wanting a 4k tv. cheers.
I think I might do one on the newer ones from 2018 that are reasonable price now. They look pretty good 👌🏾 I'll talk with the manager of Curry's and see if it's possible.
I mentioned in the video it was a stop gap so I did sell it after a few months. I believe there's a comment here saying that the user has had it for a long time with no problems.
I've just bought the 65inch version. So when I plug my firestick into the tv I can use the tv remote to control the firestick? That's brilliant if I can do that .
Yes you can 😁 it's called HDMI CEC and it works flawlessly on these TV's. My £1400 oled is so hot & miss but somehow these cheaper brands managed to nail it!
That's good to hear it's lasted so long. Tbh unless you're spending tons of money...most TVs have poor sound. They've gotten too slim and can't house decent drivers.
any advice im looking at a Hitachi 50 Inch 50HK25T74U Smart 4K LED HDR TV but as we watch a lot of items from USB Stick will this play MP4, MKV AVI etc etc i was hoping your video would give advice
Hi, because I always stream, it's one thing I never tried. Can you possibly download a couple of clips and take them to your local store and try? Which country do you reside?
Hi, unfortunately I don't. This was a stop gap TV until I bought something else. I was compelled to do a quick review because I was so impressed by it.
ian laithwaite never used the scart I’m afraid. Smart apps, fire tv, Xbox one, PS4, pc and mirroring is what I use. I suggest you buy a cheap DVD player with hdmi and switch on the ‘enhanced HDMI’ in settings (look in this video info). Enhanced hdmi is only meant to be for hdr devices 4:4:4 etc but it made a remarkable difference on my fire tv stick, much better quality than the inbuilt app.
I'll have to watch the video again to hear what I was commenting on but it was probably this... www.which.co.uk/news/2014/05/when-smart-tv-app-support-vanishes-what-next/
Yes I think it's definitely good enough. Didn't notice any extreme lag or blur. Toshiba (which come out the same factory) are doing higher faux motion rates with HDR now. Should be a bit better than this one.
Why is my Hitachi freezing whenever I turn it on? As soon as I turn it on I can’t turn channel over because it freezes then TV turns off comes back on again and it’s fine after that. Someone please tell how to fix this
jetnight 88 do you have this exact model? Have you installed the latest update? My tv is extremely fast since the latest update. My tv has to wait about 5 seconds after switching on to control anything but after that it’s lightning fast.
jetnight 88 try connecting to a different network. Set your phone as a hotspot and connect to that. If it’s still slow then we have a problem, if it’s fast you might have to change to a different router frequency ie 2.4 or 5ghz. Software update requires internet access. Settings, more, software upgrade. TVs can do it with an aerial but internet is better. Ps what apps are you trying to open?
Hi, thanks for the video, very helpful while we were setting up our tv. We also bought in sale. However, the smart apps such as bbciplayer, itv, all 4 and demand 5 does not work even though tv is connected with WiFi and RU-vid and Netflix works fine. Following error come. Can you please help with this? Error connecting please check if tv is connected with WiFi.
iamcolinedwards No, I will do it today and see if it makes any difference. One more question plz. Does bbciplayer etc works on your tv? Thanks for replying 🙏
Z Zaman yes, mine work fine. I just pulled the aerial and now the apps won’t work. I get a pop-up saying “your tv must be tuned and connected to the internet”
Z Zaman have you tuned the stations in and left the aerial connected? I believe for freeview play it has to be this way regardless of if you use sky for main viewing.
🤣🤣. I didn't keep this one as I bought a Philips Ambilight & Panasonic Oled. This was definitely worth the money though and if I need another set of have no issues purchasing another.
Hi mate, I got rid of the tv as it was only a stop gap. I made the video because I was so impressed. In my daily work Ive seen jvc, toshiba etc running everyday for a year so im sure these have decent reliability now.
Gona have to get one then. Looks like is gona be £450 on amazon. Tried the top names etc and all have some horrible issues that in the industry seems to be deemed as normal. Anyway, thanks for the replies.
ian laithwaite yeah go for it! Let me know how you get on please. I’ve heard that hitachi are doing OLEDs soon and I’m definitely keeping my eyes on it. I hope it performs as good as this one.
Ps check HotUKDeals regular as prices always fluctuate on these and I’ve seen a few with “hdr” at around the £349 mark recently. Obviously take the hdr with a pinch of salt.
Hi. Thanks for reply. On some of these even expensive brands, when the camera pans left to right or up and down, u get like a bruising or ripple effect if u will. Like a dirty screen effect especially on white or light backrounds. Hows this one for this problem? Think these are edge lit arnt they? So in theory the problem shouldnt be there. What do u think? Cheers.
ian laithwaite yes, I worked for Panasonic for 10 years and still work for them at weekends so fully aware of screen issues amongst brands. I did actually have some very surprising results recently and I made a video but deleted it after a day because I can’t be bothered to deal with the snobs. Read on if you have time.....🤣 I recently got rid of all my drones/quads inc xiaomi mi 4K as it’s to big. I bought a dji spark that only records in 1080p. I made a video recently in Hastings and exported it to 4k res in Final Cut and uploaded to RU-vid. I played it back on this tv and was blown away by the smoothness and detail in the picture. The next weekend in store I played the video on some top end OLEDs inc the Sony a1 and LG c7 and it looked muddy soft and the flying seagulls looked like they were skipping frames it was so bad. I played it back on this tv when I got home and it was solid 😮 I then played a video on RU-vid which all the store staff and reps love called Raceism (about cars). When I watch that video on all the top brands lcd and OLEDs I find so many artefacts and motion problems which are not present on this model! To the staff and customers they love the quality but when you’ve been selling tv’s as long as I have you pick up all sorts of picture and motion issues that most people miss. I’m considering making a video about it again with just the video clip ONLY as this tv was slated by people on hukd as it’s made by Vestel. This is one of the main reasons I never listen to brand snobs as they only read what others have posted with no real evidence for themselves. The question is....how can this tv be vastly superior in motion than a £1500 to £3000 oled!!!!! I’ve now decided to keep this and will purchase these types of tv’s in the future.
I don't work there anymore but have done for years. They most certainly are a better brand, Hitachi aren't in the same league. Panasonic have made a few silly mistakes these last couple years but don't let that detract you from there many years in the business.
These aren't really made by Hitachi. Argos has the rights to the Hitachi name for electronics now and uses it to rebadge Vestel TVs. Hitachi haven't made an electronic device since early 2000s. Similar thing happens with Currys and JVC.
Stu Thomas you can only install what’s in the App Store. Open apps and you’ll see the store! Once inside the App Store, they also have the opera store which has a few more apps
You cant lol. For a smart tv it isnt very smart. If you want a decent smart telly go for LG or samsung. I bought one of these and sent it straight back.
I bought the same tv from Argos there's no sound at all. Can anyone help please?? I tried to unplug the ac power, reset it twice still nothing. It's hard to believe that they sold me a faulty item..
ian laithwaite uniform is good, no dark patches. I noticed a little light leak on the left and right centre when I first turn it on, only on the grey start-up screen. It’s probably there when I’m watching but it’s hard to see when picture is on. My brother bought a 65” curved Samsung 9000 and his light leak is really bad. The hitachi is barely noticeable
When i change from hdmi 1 to hdmi 2 i have to change from regular to enhanced to get my picture back and if i have to do it again i have to change it again other wise i wont get a picture up
Hi Colin was wondering if you can help me. I've just bought the Hitachi 50HK15T74U 4k and noticed even though Netflix and RU-vid look great Standard sky tv channels look very pixelated, I understand this is due to them not being hd but is there any way of improving the quality as my 43inch LG does not have this problem? Thanks for your time and video.
Slymansworld hi. That’s a shame about sky, even standard tv looks fine on mine. Have you read my info about enhanced hdmi settings? If not give that a try! Assuming you’ve got the sky box connected by hdmi
I've only had mine for a few months from the start it had problems it turns on and off randomly plus the remote is mainly unresponsive especially when using apps and today I switched on and no screen for no absolute reason it won't come on now so ordered a Samsung instead bit more money as that Hitachi is my worst experience in a tv sense plus wasted my money gutted
It was from my stepdaughter she got it from argos because it was a cheaper end 4k I assumed that's just how it was and got used to it, unfortunately she didn't get insurance so still trying to get something from this, I've got a Samsung curve arriving tomorrow I had to borrow my sons little tv to get me through the night 😩 was actually looking for reviews to see if anyone had this problem and only a few had this issue so believe it was faulty from the beginning that's how I came along your video, take it easy and take care 🙌🏻👍🏻
Ahhh I see! Well I've seen plenty of TV's come back faulty, even top end oleds. Sometimes you're just unlucky but you must act quickly if you notice anything funny. Hope you enjoy your new TV 😁
am geting this TV but new model it 4 k HDR HDR 10 getting from Argos only 359 50inch but on amazon worth bout 699 soome cheap ones are better than Sony lg Panasonic some of them not all should of got the one with HDR.
Catto Wit Da Hoodie you’re absolutely right! Some of the larger companies had their budget models made by vestel who make hitachi. Vestel have really stepped up their game in the last couple of years. The hdr 10 version wasn’t available at the the time but the truth is your tv will only simulate hdr as it’s not a true 10bit panel. I’ve since bought a Phillips flagship from last year as it has a true 10bit panel, hdr and 120hz. I still rate this hitachi though!
@@Altcine Just got it today I'm pissing round with it bro best tv you get is OLED is lg sony Panasonic my is 10 bit i think it is. my family's. internet been playing up with me lol on my can't find any backlight blur pure clean or even colour blur I let you know bruh💯 been watching movies been really good got new model Hitachi better than hisense.
Jayzibbit cropper there’s definitely a scart on mine. I saw a similar version listed on Argos recently. It has hdr and a different stand and in sure that one £380ish. It’s definitely not true hdr but I’d rather have a simulated hdr tv than a scary socket.....unless you need scart?
Mr Mr No! I’ve seen the Panasonic 50EX700 as low as £439 and I saw a hinsense on HotUKDeals a few days ago for £399 too. This is a good stop gap or other room tv but for £400 I probably would pass.
Bought exactly the same Tv. My question is, how are you able to have access to the HD channels & your freeview being so clear. Whenever I watch anything on freeview it's not HD/HDR at all
Jeffrey Kamara hi. This is just a normal aerial on bbc1 HD. During the daytime broadcast signals are low quality but anything prime time and especially on HD channels should look crystal clear.
Hmmm because it was a stop gap TV, my kids didn't test any games on this. From what I saw on sports it seemed like it refreshed well with ultra minimal blur & lag. Someone said in another comment that it has game mode.
Hi can anyone help my son has this TV and at times a Dolby vision notification comes up on bottom right side then picture goes blank but sound still remains if I change source and go back I get a picture back but only for so long it's frustrating as he is autistic so it's not so pleasing to the ears while this happens upstairs safe to say my neighbours hear screams please help
That's Very strange as this TV isn't compatible with Dolby vision 🤔 Dolby vision is like a picture setting. On tv's with Dolby vision, you play dvd or nexflix content that's compatible and the TV usually switches to the Dolby profile and you'll get better colour & detail. I'm suspecting they used some sort of chip that maybe has some Dolby compatibility but have disabled it. Can you tell me what content you're playing when this happens?
When I play on the original ps4 on it the screen has a green tint but when I play cod ww2 it is fixed but when I go back on the home screen of the ps4 it has a green tint
Hi, no probs! My kids played fortnite on it and they go mental if there’s any lag but they said it was good. Yes you can play in 4k, read the INFO above for best settings
I don't think RU-vid will be available for the life of any TV. Any brand can lose apps after a few years when the app dev or sometimes the manufacturer drop support for a particular model.
Amynat Lawal hi, I’m not sure I understand the question. If you’re in Uk then the HD channels start from 101. Out the box the tv picture settings were ok but follow my settings and see if you like them. I recently bought a new tv from Panasonic (ive left the job now) and I’ve tweaked the settings heavily but I can’t get it to produce a better picture than this hitachi so I’m sending it back and buying another cheap tv. This hitachi tv although it’s cheap has a fantastic picture and I regret getting rid of it 😢
Michael Lyons no, this tv doesn’t have hdr. Enhanced mode is actually an amazing difference! I tried normal Netflix built in app and Netflix from firetv stick using enhanced hdmi and the picture was so clean compared to built in app. I was shocked!
jenglish 557 it depends on how you like your tv to look. You can follow my settings and turn on Dynamic contrast for a bit more detail. If it doesn’t look right then turn it off as well as film mode. Remember that the response time might not be that good, however my kids were playing fortnight and they had no issues.
iamcolinedwards i have the same settings but i cant seem to get the 4k settings right on the xbox its self i tried to find videos but i cant find a thing
Born Yesterday ok, thanks for they extremely useful comment! Just to add, I’ve changed this bedroom tv 4 times this year ranging from £300 to £1000. If you wasn’t so trigger happy and LISTEN to what I said in this video you would have heard me say this was “just something cheap for the bedroom”! Finally go and check the other tv videos where I tested the Panasonic 58ex700 and now on a flagship 49” 2017 Philips 4k. My channel is about decent and affordable!
Born Yesterday this video has over 30k views so it’s obviously helped a lot of people looking for a cheap tv. People like you with NO videos come just to talk nonsense. BE GONE 👋🏾
Hitachi tvs are absolute shit don't even waste your money they crash so much and choose when and when not to work screen goes black and only hear sound
Those budget TVs are total rubbish Hitachi are no longer who they were the TVs are made by Vestel in Turkey And that tv in your living is probably made by Vestel as well, Panasonic are stupid going to Vestel they are finished now, you’re lucky if you get a year out of them
Cucumber Man I did say in this video that it’s vestel made. Plenty comments here from users who’ve had them for years. Did you know that the budget Samsung’s are mostly made by sharp? Panasonic have the only oled television being used in Hollywood. Even movies like WonderWoman, Harry Potter, Star Wars - force awakens were finished & mastered on Panasonic oled tv that you can purchase in-store. Panasonic have shifted focus heavily to electric car batteries and Hollywood, that’s why they licensed out their budget range....but most brands do that nowadays. Finally, some people simply don’t have the money for expensive tv and might want a budget set. Is there anything else you’d like me to cover?
iamcolinedwards I fix TVs the worst Vestel I had was a Bush straight out of an Argos returns container it had 55 mins on the lifetime counter and admittedly if the backlights are set low enough they will last if they’re not backed down and not on Auto you will get a longer life LG/Philips haven’t yet gone to the likes of Vestel
@@wisher21uk yes but who makes bush TV's? No piece of tech is 100%. LG have the highest rate of oled returns because of screen burn. Philips only recently have gone in-house and produce their own TV's since the name was bought by a Chinese firm, I think within the last 3 years.
You’re right about oled screen burn, Who makes Bush TVs well a grey area there, some are Vestel and some are UMC (sky media ltd) not sky itself though These are made mainly in China
