For someone who's so knowledgeable about the importance of foot position when it comes to American football, it's surprising that you overlook it completely when it comes to putting.
I am biased, but I think he landed in a good place. Colts have a pretty deep defensive line so there is no pressure to be a 3 down player right away (and I don't think he will be). We also have to take into account that the Colts hired Charlie Partridge this offseason to be their defensive line coach. I think that could really help him too. Excited for Latu!
Bretts community also rarely going into pointless online debates. Many people come here for his analysis, knowledge and insight. No one in the comments has any right to dispute his claims. In fact doing so is pointless.
I watched this game. Latu isn’t beaten by Fuaga “a lot”, he only has 4 rushes against him the entire game! And he wins two! Not counting the plays where Latu is aligned on the left but Fuaga either releases or blocks down, they are matched up 8 times. 4 in the pass game, 4 in run game. Latu takes 2/4 in pass rush (one where Fuaga is beaten but the guard helps him), Fuaga 2/4 in run game (with 2 effectively a wash). And honestly, this isn’t enough of a sample size to judge a pass rusher one way or the other. Notable though that he won half of them; 2 pass rush wins in 10 rushes is good. 2 in four is way better than that.
True the only thing that hurt his stock in that game was his lack of block shedding in the run, in pass rush snaps they went back and forth but yea imo edge 1
@@Ace-rb4hv Yea and I mean really, Fuaga is a major talent. He works him twice in the run game, albeit once with TE help. That’s what makes Taliese such a great prospect, because of his elite power. So I agree those reps aren’t particularly concerning - Latu isn’t a perfect prospect, and holding up in a phone booth against elite power isn’t ever going to be his bag. But let’s be clear, not every tackle has elite power and not every tackle with elite power will be able to get hands on Latu. He isn’t a pure stack and shed player, but he works plenty of dudes in the run game, on this tape and in others. That will definitely be more of an adjustment for him, but there’s still plenty to like from him as a run defender.
@@smyers9052 deadass even in the run game he isn't a liability, he's just not elite. That don't matter allat much as a prospect cause he's not at all a small and frail edge, and as a prospect you don't get dudes right out college with that precise hand placements and pass rush plans, tbh most of the top edges are pass rush nerds and not just athletic freaks (aside from Garrett) and that's overlooked they all are good athletes but you get me. Just watching the usc game he has a quick first step and power too like he is sneaky athletic he just prefers to win with his actual pass rush plan and not just go through the tackle. Pretty much he's a talent which will at least be a 10 sack a season player
Brett I respect your work but I think you’re massively underselling Latu here. He didn’t have that many reps vs Fuaga, (he rushed from the offensive right a ton) and he had by my count at least two clean wins, one where Taliese was bailed by the guard and one where Latu won inside quickly on a counter. He’s a finesse rusher, but he shows the inside counter when he needs it…he just rarely needs it because his hands and bend are not good, they are elite. And while he isn’t going to crush double teams, he consistently - and I mean, consistently - wins in the run game with quick, heavy hands and burst. This kid has elite traits in the most important areas, is a good run defender and a deadly pass rusher, and there is no reason to expect him not to get better, as he has each year in college. I’m honestly surprised you’re this low on him. The kid has top-10 tape. Lack of elite measurables and the medical scare will drop him, but I think he’s an All-Pro talent. Much more diverse and effective pass rush repertoire than any edge in this class, and it’s not super close.
Yeah, Latu has an endless bag of tricks to pull out, including speed-to-power and a hundred different inside counters. The one-trick pony part of this video is kind of ridiculous.
You’re spitting bro… He can show power. By hand usage… he had multiple other moves in his arsenal. He went to the push pull also and sometimes he just got under the Tackles arms and walked him back He does need to play with more leverage but the one trick pony quote is crazy meanwhile Verse has less tools than him and relies on playing like Clowney a lot. I’ve never seen a pass rusher so fundamentally sound in college before. If he plays with lower hips he can be a clone of TJ
Hey Brett, can you do a schematic overview of the 2023 Patriots? It felt like they were so dominant despite some key DB injuries, and I'm wondering if the scheme was similar to that of the classic quarter-quarter-half force the ball to the flat trend (from Vic Fangio?) that's going around the league.
Hey Brett tip for putting. Point your feet at the hole and practice a few putts looking at the hole to gauge your speed like a baseball player throwing to another player. Your body will naturally give you what the speed should be. Sorry I get distracted by correctable golf games. 😂
Random note: Not super familiar with the creator side of RU-vid, but you should totally put your recent uploads above the playlists on your channel if you can. Was scrolling your channel on my TV and it took me a bit of scrolling through playlists to find the recent uploads. Not sure if it’s a device/media type specific thing, or something you could potentially edit. Love these prospect videos!
Also, stand behind your ball and visualize the straight line behind ball to hole. Then go line your feet up on that line, you will improve another 10%. If you tgen practice these fundamentals every day, your putting will be very good.
Latu looked to have a slim upper body and room to fill out at the combine. Gotta hope he can add strength and size to his upper body to aid in the power game.
cant believe i just watched someone putt on a flat surface and it never occurred to him to aim right at the hole. the ball never curved at all, not one time
I don't think his arms being 1/2" short is gonna stop him from being a great run defender- dude has the best hands I've ever seen. I am a little concerned though that his go to move is swim, and he's not above average size or power, and doesn't really seem to have any bull rushing highlights. How reliably do you think he'll be able to set up his swim or outside rush in the NFL if he isn't able to threaten power and isn't exceptionally quick?
@@samelmudir What makes you think that? Turner is a great athlete with limited/unrefined pass rush moves. Maybe you can argue Verse because of the power he brings. But Latu has ideal size, has fantastic technique, and he's fast.
