You can upgrade the firmware via downloading the philips software and connecting the included USB 3 cable to the monitor. Should fix the fan noise, as I never heard it after gaming and using it for one month. The features this has for gaming are actually quite impressive too, corrects too dark for fps with black level boost (level 1), RTS and Moba get manual monitor size (have to side scroll in aspect mode to achieve it) to down to 1440p 16:9 native fullscreen for games like dota 2, and the crosshair was also exceptionally well done on this monitor.
@@ryanjoffe9090 I am now, it's really, really good, the colors are accurate providing you will get slightly more saturation on oled with gloss naturall vs ips matte. The low input lag however is actually underestimated, and will give you a productivity boost IMO.
There is no "coating" problem with QD-OLED's gray tint. Issue arises from the fact that blue OLED's that don't have any QD layer reflect back some of the outside light. This isn't fixable by coating, it is nature of the display technology itself and all Gen1 QD-OLED's will have same problem. Samsung did say they tried to improve this a bit with Gen 2 but issue still remains. Source: Watch this video 2023 QD-OLED TVs What’s New, Will it have MLA too?
So in short the reason would be that the blue LED is a passthrough layer instead of Quantum Dots for the other colors and since it's a passthrough layer there's a dome shaped scattering material for the blue LED and that it's this material that reflects ambiant light since it's job is to scatter whatever light gets shined onto it
I've known this for over a year now and all tech youtubers ignored my comment so I'm happy that more people finally catch on. If you want to know what's causing this it's the light scattering particles integrated into the qd layer. This is done to improve efficiency since q dots are so small that you need a scattering layer to increase that chance for light to actually hit them. So a polarizer wouldn't solve the problem and that's besides the point that the display most likely has one anyway further back to reduce reflections from the glass substrate. There is more I could share if anyone is interested like how there are clear signs that's it a 4 stack design with 3 blue stacks and 1 green stack instead of the originally marketed 3 blue stacks.
@@TvjaMonitoriSorry for the late reply. As far as I'm aware they couldn't get the green output that they wanted and the only sollution that seems to have worked is to add a green stack. Watch "Destroying a QD-OLED Part 1/2 from the RU-vidr NanoPalomaki and there are a few QD-OLED videos from the RU-vidr Tech Trip but I think he explains it best in his video Dissecting Samsungs's S95b!
@gamehey Thanks! I watched both of his videos. Really intresting to think that they would be using green oled as well. As green can not get as easily to be displayed to the screen as blue light source can. And one would think that with green quantum dot you could easily get the green you want because of their properties. Intresting.
Samsung is supposed to have a 2nd gen panel coming for these monitors with an upgrade to 240hz and higher brightness. Might only see monitors with new panels end of this year
@@la3692 how can you tell? Neither has been released yet, and not even the specs have been published. Besides, the problems with the G9 have nothing to do with the panel, and everything to do with the software and features, which is exactly what differentiates monitors from different brands. There is absolutely no basis in reality for your statement. You just sound like a Samsung fanboy.
I black / dark grey front would have made a big difference for me at least.Having a colour just shows how big the bezels are. Other than that I like the look.
Hoping to see reviews of the other Evnia panels, too. Would love to see a review of the 42M2N8900 OLED - and how it compares to other implementations of LG's panel.
Thanks for reviewing this model! I was close to getting one on a sale here in Sweden a while ago, but decided to hold off for a while longer, esp as i heard concerns regarding the pixel refresh/shuffle messaging.
Bought this model a week ago. Very happy with it. About coating, I have no issue during day. The key is to place your desk not just behind a window... pretty common sense as nobody will ever put a TV this way, why should we do with a monitor? Got it for 1100€, G9 was 100€ cheaper but based on feedback on repair service and noise, I picked the Philips which does offer 3 years warranty.About risk of burning, I do use monitor sleep mode after 15 minutes without activity, hide the task bar and let it refresh pixel every 4 or more hours, which give me the opportunity.. to have a break for few minutes. Not an issue.
I don’t think that’s odd at all! It’s such a huge quality of life change (both the improved adjustability and desk space savings)!! Only reason I could think not to do it would be if for some reason the stupid monitor didn’t support it or you couldn’t make it work with your desk
For sure! For $30 bucks one can buy a gas spring articulating monitor arm. As far as functional luxuries go, this should be near the top of everyone's list.
As always a helpful review. 👏🏻 I am wondering why you still haven't hit the 100k subscribers - maybe you should mention this channel more often in the content of your main channel....
I would love to see you check out as much as you can of these tests on a old school 27" Sony Trinitron RGB Monitor that has been fully calibrated and gone through to make sure it is operating perfectly. I'd be willing to bet that, other than resolution and HDR, it would probably perform close to OLED performance.
Ambi-glow looks pretty sick. Pretty stylish stand and silver accent, wish it was all black though. Still can't compete with the AW3423DWF at the routine sale price of $899
The Philips now cost around 150€ less than the AW3423DWF, delivers a very similar performance and has the ambient light. I think I am going with the Philips.
The locked colour channels are an odd quirk shared with other Evnia models. You should be able to adjust the colour channels using Philips SmartControl software, however.
@@GewelReal Any evidence that it collects any personal data or any data of significance? If you're worried about data collection you're probably on the wrong platform.
@@PCMonitorsWhether or not it collects data (EULA would be a good start to finding that out), unnecessary reliance on software is never a good thing. It's inconvenient, doesn't work on all platforms and there's no gurantee it'll continue to work in the future. It's especially bad with things like robot vacuums and lawn mowers, I'd love to have one but spending that much money only to rely on a badly coded mobile app that barely works in the present is a hard no.
@@ozzyp97 I don't disagree and changing colour channels should definitely be possible with a simple OSD adjustment instead of using software. But that does still offer an alternative some will be happy to use and it's important to raise awareness that it is possible instead of taking a defeatest attitude of "it's broken and can't be fixed" (if colour channel adjustments are required). Philips SmartControl is also very lightweight software that even works via DDC/CI on non-Philips monitors for some basic functions, there's no reason to think it will "stop working" in the future as that hasn't been the case for previous models at all.
It's literally the worst monitor in every test! Did you read the part that said "lower is better" and then see the Samsung G8 had the highest number of every oled panel? You just saw the Samsung with the higher numbers and thought that meant better, right?
Tim, I think the OLED G8 SDR mode brightness shown in your graph should be revised, since the monitor's latest firmware update (1504) did something weird to it and in my personal experience it seems to have been tuned waaay down and it is now much lower than what it was in the past
Did they ever fix this? I bought one and it really doesn’t get that bright in hdr and when you turn on game whatever tgat setting is, it just makes the entire monitor brighter but not as much contrast. Idk. I’m not that impressed. Also no difference between amd and nvidia. It’s like they took away the 1000 nuts mode
Just ordered it from Finland .... just for 735€ shipping included! This is the cheapest OLED I could find new. Philips in Europe has a very strong and long reputation in video and music competing with Sony at some point. They got lost fighting with chinese but they do have a good background in video/image management. They seem to be active in maintaining the software (latest version is August 2024) ... I was hesitating with a refurb LG 45GR95QE-B for 100€ more aggressive curve. The price, usb c connectivity to plug all kind of tech toy out of the box and curve seems more usable for productivity. Overall seems more usable outside gaming.
I really really appreciate you doing a continued focus on the 1440p WUHD format. I'm in the market to replace my Dell U3415W which I purchased originally for this ultrawide format, along with it's built in KVM for switching between work (WFH) and gaming in the evening. I've come to the point however where I would really like to see higher refresh rates, even if that means I need to incorporate a USB switch into my setup and forego the KVM.
The difference to the other OLED monitors which has to be mentioned is the integrated KVM switch. In those days where Home Office is usual, the KVM switch is nearly a must have. And the price dropped to 899€ in Germany. Really thinking to get one.
I own an OLED G8 and i got to say the ambilight system on this Philips seems to be way better than the corelight ring... The thing isn't really bright legs behind the image beforce changing color is often just white because it does not understand the image it displays.
I love aesthetics of Evnia KB and Mouse, this dude also looks pretty good, not counting useless RGB stuff. Where the f is my microLED? Its almost 2024 already. I think some top from AUOpt promised them in just few years, it was few years ago :)
Nice to see Ambilight but my god you have to go back 15 years to find so few LED's for it, kinda dissapointing they didnt have the full AMblight treatment like their living room tVs because gamers love that feature more than movie watchers
I’m very much enjoying my completely silent air cooled computer. Now I have to be careful about what monitor I buy in the future so it doesn’t mess up my silent system. Right now I enjoy my LG C2 OLED.
@@syed2694 I have a 1440p 32" IPS panel that looks perfectly fine. I play competitive titles so more frames = more better. I currently have a 7900 xt and 7700x system and I'd be perfectly happy with 1440p to keep my very high frame rate but have better motion clarity and better contrast.
@syed2694 4k monitors is(unfortunately) not really practical, for any "high end" graphics intensive games....like all the coming unreal 5 engine based games. So, at least if your into cutting edge 3D graphics, 4k is not really ideal, before the graphics cards gets more powerful in terms of performance per watt! 🙂
That just depends on the subpixel layout (or the ability of the OS to enhance readability of text by exploiting subpixels). Every panel technology is capable of being simple straightforward RGB layout or more complicated layouts that do offer other advantages, but Windows just isn't able to handle those layouts gracefully (yet).
As someone who used glasses their entire life and currently is using -17 glasses, I can confirm that you get used to color fringing to the point that you no longer perceive it.
Philips being Philips in naming. I have the Evnia 24M1N3200Z/71 but it has the "Momentum" branding on the front. Their response time tuning is lacking in their other products I used. I just like the minimal design.
Right now, in Poland, it’s the cheapest QD-OLED on the market. It’s at about 800 euro, and about 250-300 euro cheaper than G8 or Alienware. It puts it at the price level (about 50 euro more) than the MSI Artemis VA display or BenQ IPS ultrawide. So we’ll, decided to get it. At the current price it’s a steal :)
@@barteks816 Do gier rewelacja. Znakomity kontrast, czerń, HDR i kolory. Nawet dają karteczkę z wynikami fabrycznej kalibracji :) No i za 3799 to bije cena/jakość wszystkie inne 21:9.

Hi, will you guys ever return to doing "budget" (200 USD to 400 USD depending on sizes) monitors reviews? OLED and Mini LED is good and all but I think most of them is out of budget ranges for most people which is still dominated by mostly IPS and even VA displays. ViewSonic VX 2758-2K, VX 2780-2K (which is different from VX2780-2K-SHDJ) and revisited some older products like LG older UltraWide 1080p line-ups.
According to Nada from TechTesters, the reason why Phillips created the Evnia line is that they wanted to have products geared towards female gamers. That's why the monitors are silver & white.
This thing was about $500AUD off, picked it up, pretty awesome. I do have to say missing the RGB control seems odd. the sRGB mode feels a bit...'orange'/warm
I wish you were also reviewing QD-OLED TVs, like "TVs Unboxed". I'm considering buying a QD-OLED TV to use as a gaming monitor, but I don't know all the details, quirks or pros/cons...
Is there any chance we are getting a 34" curved oled with a normal subpixel layout in the near future? Are there any in the making? Apart from desktop usage you also notice fringing in games, whenever there is a straight horizontal line, like in most menus. So upgrading is kinda pointless when I'm doing it for the picture quality, but I get these pink and green lines all over the place.
Genuinely did not understand the marketing for this monitor, but glad that it's basically the same as the other QD-OLEDs. Also means that I can just ignore it, thankfully. Nothing terribly standout other than the neat ambient glow.
There's a monitor I want to suggest for review. There is a 27" 1440p ASUS Proart IPS Monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate and 5ms GTG refresh time. It has 100% SRGB and 95% DCI-P3 coverage. I believe the monitor was designed for video game creation and 3D rendering. ASUS ProArt PA278CGV
For that price the fan should be *silent* and the HDMI ports definitely need to be 2.1 minimum and that's not taking into account the general issues with these first gen QD OLED screens
I really hope we get more info on MSI's Project 491C its supposed to release this year and we don't even know if its 4k or 1440p (probably the latter but would rather it get confirmed) its an interesting monitor and I want to finally make the jump from IPS to QDOLED
Could you please do a buyers guide/recommendation video for your Australian viewers? prices/models vary drastically, or aren't available at all, and it would be great to have something for here.
I will avoid any monitor that has fans.....what do u do when they bust? If a monitor needs fans then they need to make new fans plug n play modules so u dont have to get a tech place to take monitor apart to fix fans....buying a monitor with fans is like gonna half the life span imo....also oleds getdarker over time losing brightness a fair bit every year...l love ambilight ashave it on my tvand its amazing...but for a monitor...yeah noway l want fans ..l will wait till we get fanless designs atabout 700 price range...also tbh burn in again on a pc monitor is bad. I will wait for new tech l think!
OLED and QD-OLED monitor reviews are basically repeating the same point over and over. There is little to no appreciable difference between most models.
Kind request to actually print the specs on screen instead of quick firing them off. Makes it very difficult to both remember and interpret the characteristics of a screen.
Fan speed hysteresis == no sale. Does anyone know if tech like ClearType is ever going to support these unorthodox pixel layouts? Maybe we’ll have micro LED by then so it won’t matter.
Day XX of continuing my spam sorry :D - KTC M27T20 PLEASE ! 1440p, VA, MINILED FALD, 165Hz, 1000+ nits brightness, Quantum Dot, Variable Overdrive, VRR, factory calibration.... at 500 bucks ! Honestly, this would have been way more interesting than the 4th monitor with the same panel.
@elcactuar3354 I know show intros are a relic from the TV era, but an intro lasting a few seconds is not bad compared to the 60-90 seconds they used to last in the past, while still providing a small ritual for the viewer to mentally tune in to. Like, when I hear the HUB intro, I'm conditioned to prepare myself for the blue bar graphs. 😁
Thank you for mentioning the hdr setting issue with amd gpu. I was thinking i go mad why i didn't got the hdr smartimage setting to enable. So, just need to switch off shortly vrr.
I don't remember him mentioning if this monitor was VESA compatible. He's normally good at mentioning whether it has, or lacks, VESA compatibility.. In looking at the video, it does not appear to have the holes for a VESA mount.
Hey Guys. I’ve been subbed to both your channels for a bit now and have been feverishly watching as many of your videos about 4K hdr monitors and have a big problems now. I want a 4K hdr monitor somewhere in the 27”-34” size as a secondary monitor. I was absolutely sold on the Samsung odyssey neo g7 but the big problem is they are sold out everywhere and I’ve checked everywhere with no luck. I even reached out to a Samsung rep who informed me that it is end of line for the g7 which means no more will be produced. I’ve looked at lg, ASUS, Sony, gigabyte, the Odyssey neo g8 and none have exceptional HDR or have scan lines issues. All my information and opinions are based on your videos. I’d really appreciate if you could recommend a 4K monitor in that size with strong hdr capabilities that rises above the rest. Thank you very much and keep up the amazing videos.
Stop hating on glossy finish, nobody says a thing when apple do the same, on the contrast it's praised for it's punchier colors and crispness !, if all reviewers continue to continue on dunking on glossy finish manufacturers will stop producing them and people who like glossy finish wouldn't have a choice. moreover glossy finish increases the perceived black level where as matt finish introduces more greyish and reduces perceived black level.
Heard of this fan ramp up and down in another review as well but can say with certainty that my model does not do that. I left it on auto and even after three hours of HDR gaming there is no difference and the noise is a constant sound (usually sounding like the air moving through the fan and less than the motor of a fan) that does not get louder or quieter. I have the latest firmware installed, but since this review is only one months old I guess it was tested with that same firmware.
@@SmellsLikeNirvanna I use the HDR TrueBlack mode anyway, not the brigther one, so I can't tell. I think it looks brilliant, I don't need the higher brightness, especially since I can dim the room light with ease.
Im really bummed about the lack of color control. There is no saturation setting! I just bought this monitor as an upgrade to the asus xg349c ultrawide ips and i feel sometimes the ips colors look better. Im still digging to find options to make this oled look better because i know its capable as i have an oled tv as well. It does do native 10 bit at 175 hz and my other did not so thats a huge win.
