I just got my First Athlon for a 31" 35 Whelen Savage build. Helos BTR Gen 2 4-20×50 FFP MOA, $550 after tax and shipping from Midway with 10% off. I did a good bit of research, I kinda wanted a Primary Arms 3-18.. But they are never ever in stock! Just looking through my scope on my shooting tripod (parts are out to cerakote and the barrel isn't in yet), I'm thoroughly impressed! It was the last one they had in stock, just had to see how Good they've gotten :) Also got a 20 MOA EGW rail for my rifle. Thanks for the review.

Great review of a fantastic optic. I heard you mention that you’re in the Columbus area, and that’s pretty cool, I am also a lifelong Columbus native. I spend most of my range time up in Delaware county at the public shooting range. It’s a great place but only offers 100 yard max distance. I’ve been researching places I can stretch out my .308 and other rifles, let me know if you have some good ideas, thanks and again, good videos

The Meopta Optika6 3-18x56 with Mrad1 FFP reticle is a better more real world useable scope especially for low light hunting and quick target acquisitions. You can actually see the center of the aiming point at 3x with the Mrad1 FFP reticle while the Athlon reticle disappears and is extremely difficult the see unless you bump up the magnification. The Meopta Optika6 is $650 at B&H and don't forget to buy the 56mm sunshade and decent flip up lens covers. They aren't made in China like the Athlon Ares ETRs. I do like some of the Chinese made Athlon scopes such as their Midas Tac 6-24x50 and Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 but not their Argos BTR 6-24x50 due to very poor glass quality. Just go with the Midas HD line and above for better HD glass. The Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 is hands down the best Chinese made scope that money can buy and are reasonably priced currently selling for $899 when they are on sale but I prefer the Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 for $700 instead due to it's lighter weight and I don't normally recommend Chinese scopes and prefer Japan, European and USA made scopes but these specific Athlon scopes are an exception as long as they are on sale but not at their regular prices. Of paying regular prices then go with Leupold or Japanese (but not the Element Nexus) or European made scopes instead.

C_DOES did 2 reviews on the Meopta Optika6 3-18x50 with Mrad1 FFP reticle but the 56mm version with the Mrad1 reticle is better and $650 at B&H and don't forget to buy the 56mm sunshade for it and decent flip up lens covers.

Can you see the reticle on low good enough to hunt with it in the brush ?
@AP2020_Outdoors
@AP2020_Outdoors 9 месяцев назад
@lukefoster3550 yes, since it is a 1st Focal Plane scope, the reticle is visible even at it's lowest power setting.

late comment but why does your scope go down when you say you are dialing up?
@AP2020_Outdoors
@AP2020_Outdoors 2 месяца назад
@johnmarken3945 The reticle travels DOWNWARD relative to the sight picture as it is imposed on the target. This downward direction forces the shooter to RAISE the rifle which UP which in turn accounts for the downward trajectory of the bullet's path. Dialing UP is what actually is shown on the external UP elevation scope turret.

Which would you prefer the vortex or the athlon?

Meopta Optika6 3-18x56 with Mrad1 FFP reticle $650 at B&H don't forget to buy the 56mm sunshade and decent flip up lens covers. It's an excellent European made scope and not Chinese.

Where did you get the sun shade for that specific optic?

@@AP2020_Outdoors so I emailed Athlon and they told me the sun shade item number was 213022S. I purchased that specific one from Amazon, matching the number but it would not thread on properly. Was extremely tight and I didn’t want to force it. Just wondering if you had the item number for the one you have?

the reticle is useless at low power
@AP2020_Outdoors
@AP2020_Outdoors Год назад
@Aslan Bosnakoglu This is typical of FFP scope. At closer ranges, with the scope ZOOMED OUT, no one relies upon the reticle subtensions for impact corrections.
