My local gunsmith convinced me to get one and I was thrilled with it. Low Athlon precision rings and the ares etr 3x18x50 was the perfect match for my new 300 win mag which is my new bear and big game rifle. I love the turret clicks and the gun was quick to sight in.

Had a razor gen 2 and sold it. The ares ETR was its replacement and I was really surprised with the glass. It’s incredibly good at this price. I really like the center dot reticle as well!

Purchased my 4.5-30 ETR a month ago and loved it so much I bought 2 BTR 2.5-15 this month for me and the wifey and now I see the 2021 line up and I could have used that 3-18 ETR!! Now I have to build another rifle for that 4.5-30 and transfer it over to it and grab that 3-18 for my Creedmoor AR10! I think that 4.5-30 will do well when I get my UNITA Precision 6mm Creedmoor bolt upper!! Thanks Athlon for such Great and affordable equipment. I am a customer for life!

Pretty sure you just sealed the deal for me brother... I appreciate the in-depth review! This will be the optic I use to learn all about dialing out windage and elevation... I will be putting it on a little Vudoo Gun Works .22lr I'm having built currently... this will *hopefully* be lots of fun. 🤙🏻😃

At this price, the Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 has everything I want in a scope except locking turrets and a sunshade. The stainless steel turrets sound & feel great. By all accounts, the turrets are accurate. I Haven't been able to "visit it" since the quarantine. It's been some new tough competition hitting market over the past few months.

Athlon really needs to come up with a 15 yard minimum focus lightweight 30mm 4.5-27x50 or 5-30x50 with ED glass and locking turrets for NRL22. I really like my Ares BTR 4.5-27x50s but their 25 yard minimum focus makes me keep searching for alternatives that are similarly weighted with equal to or better glass with under 20 yard focus that's why I switched to a Nightforce NX8 4-32x50 and was happy to pay nearly 3x the price.

Quite a few of our prostaff team members competing in NRL22 and NRL22X chose the Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 . Having used it myself, I can say although the minimum parallax spec is 25 yards, I've never felt it a hinderance at 15 yards since we typically are not using it at 30X at that distance.

I looked the Ares ETR among many others.Ivtalked to and asked and compared every nice scope I could to put on my ling range rifle.After the looking at,looking through and shooting I went with Athlon Cronus BTR. Yes I know it cost more than the Ares ETR. However Scope Snob Rex..lol who really knows what he us talking about,compared the Cronus BTR and Ares ETR and said the Crouns was a little better and should be as priced.SonI bought the Athlon Cronus BTR and I really like it.I need another scope for a new rifle and I'm considering the the Ares ETR a d the Tract Toric. Great video and comparison.

On pretty high on my Athlon.Cronus BTR however I'm not gonna trade downhill to the. ARES ETR Do for my new scopes I went with TRACT TORIC ELR

I did the same thing. Bought the Cronus BTR then Tract Toric ELR and boy, what a difference! I do believe the Ares ETR is the absolute best Chinese made scope though but simply can't beat Japan made scopes in it's price range.
@commonsense5709

I really wonder if the future Athlon Cronus rifle scopes will be switched over from Japan to made in China since their new gen 2 Cronus 20-60x85 spotting scope is now made in China and not Japan which really shocked me like how Vortex switched over their Razor spotting scope from Japan made to China.

A lot of the price difference come from the labor costs in the country of manufacture. Japanese people make a decent living, vs near slave labor of China.

Way better quality and pride from Japanese manufacturing vs China as well.

The vortex is a better looking scope. You guys need to fix those turrets and make them wider, easier to grab
@CJ-ty8sv

Exactly!!!! That is probably the key thing that sold me on the Razor a several months back (and just last week on a one of the new 5-25 x 56 Strike Eagle's for a cheaper hunting rifle that I needed new glass for) over the ETR. When I decided several months ago that it was time to finally upgrade / replace my 1st gen PST, I had started thinking of the things I didn't like and one thing that came to mind was my tendency to over dial and have to back up to my dope. I figured that a larger diameter turret would in theory at least help with this since there is more rotational distance between clicks to easier to be fast while still being precise. A friend of mine had just recently picked up a Gen 2 Razor and I talked him into letting my though it on my rifle and try it out. and _to me_ it was night and day different in how much more natural it felt to dial with the larger diameter turrets and with dialing fast, I only overshot my number once and that was the first time I had tried to dial fast on it. After shooting with it for just that one day, I was sold that I needed something with short fat turrets and after looking at everything I could find, the Gen 2 Razor was it. After seeing some of the early reviews on the ETR and handling one at a local gun show, it seemed like a good optic, especially since the retailer at the show was willing to let it go for an even $1k but it was the tall and fairly skinny (in my opinon) turrets that stopped me from buying it and ultimately lead to me picking up the Razor.

Alright. So... I have a problem with this video. The gen 2 razor is available for approx $1600. The ETR is available for as low as $950. So yes, cheaper... But not $1000 cheaper. The MSRP on the Ares is $1,499.

Care to share where you can get a Razor HD Gen 2 for $1600 that is *_NOT_* the 1-6x24 or the 3-18x50! I'm pretty sure the video creator is trying to compare apples to apples here, not apples to oranges and thus the *_ONLY_* Razor that can be compared is the 4.5-27x56 thus keeping the same tube and objective size and "close" to same magnification range. The MSRP on the standard EBR reticle 4.5-27x56 is $2899.99 vs the $1499.99 for the ETR. Unless there is some new math that no one has told me about, thats *_MORE_* than $1k difference. $2K is about the cheapest I can find the a 4.5-27x56 Razor Gen 2 (regular every day street price) vs $1200 for the ETR (again, typical everyday street price...) I'm not talking about the occasional killer deal sales that come up from time to time. So why yes, still not $1k difference but $800 is still pretty close.

The Athlon Ares ETRs are hands down THE BEST CHINESE scopes than money can possibly buy. No other brand selling Chinese made scopes can beat them. We compared a lot of Chinese made scopes among many different brands against each other and nothing made in China sold by other brands could touch the Ares ETRs and I mean nothing. The Burris Signature HDs came pretty close though. I have to say that's it's impossible to beat even the cheaper Athlon Midas Tac 6-24x50 and Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 and yes they are Chinese too but nothing from other brands could beat or even come close to these in optical and mechanical performance and reliability at their price points and I honestly prefer Japan made scopes TBH and don't normally recommend Chinese made scopes but these specific Athlon scopes are the class leading examples of the absolute best that China has to offer period.
