It covers ichnology, fossil preservation, taphonomy, ontogeny, cladistics, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, extinction and evolutionary rates, and many other tools used by professional paleontologists in the study of fossils and their importance in the field of geology. Thanks so much for posting these lectures. I'm a perpetual student, working on 2nd BS and masters enviro sci w/ emphasis on biology and animals / urban ecology. No paleontology classes at my uni tho. Zoology, comparative anatomy, evolution etc have always fascinated me. Plus I have a nephew who's insanely into dinosaurs, his knowledge level exceeds most adults and he's only 5! Thus I need new material to teach him (you'll probably be seeing him in about 15 years lol). So again, thanks for posting these lectures.

Thank you for your great lecture, Dr. Burger. I was curious on how paleontologists define fossil species. I think in some cases it may seem pretty obvious, however considering the existing cryptic diversity in living forms and the absence of molecular evidence in the fossil record I think it might be even more challenging. Greetings from Brazil.
