It's honestly my favorite energy weapon. The others just aren't nearly as good imo. Especially the fully modded version. It used to be my favorite sniper weapon.
The split beam mod doesn't do it for me as a sniper. If a target is that far I'm going Christine sniper. Better than the Gobi I think. Put on the fully modded stealth armour and it's really good.
This thing is my favourite weapon in all of Fallout, it's just so solid at basically everything. It's accurate enough for long-range combat, fires fast enough to be a useful mid to close-range gun, it's got decent enough armour-piercing through the optimised cells that it can handle all but the toughest foes without having to switch out to something dedicated for the task, and it looks fantastic
Looks like he had the Meltdown perk working. Causes explosion when you kill an enemy. Sort of risky to use when you're close in as the blast can affect you as well.
@nobodynothing282what are you on about? The laser rifle is hella accurate, even with the beam splitter. I could shoot the balls off of a bloatfly from 200 yards even without the scope.
@nobodynothing282 you know if you listened he did say that it fixed the bug because the mod gave you double damage on your laser rifle. Timestamp is 6:39
If I had one complaint with the laser rifle (aside from the ash piles that never disappear in the base game) is the on screen model, especially with the scope, is so bulky that it covers so much of your field of view.
If the AER14 didn't consume double the ammunition at half the magazine size, I'd use it more than the modded Laser Rifle. For a VATS build, though, it slays.
I have to admit, I was doing an energy weapon build and I chose Meltdown... and I had to lose a bunch of progress to load a save before I got it. I was just doing far too much damage to myself with that perk. It does great damage, but the self-harm is frustrating, especially on a pure energy build. I probably should have switched to ballistic for close range.
Get hit the deck and it should be fine. Heck you should always get it just so randos with grenade rifles arent constantly breaking your legs evej if the damage was insignificant
S tier, favorite weapon period. Easy to get at the start, easy ammo, cheap repair, and the perks upgrade it into oblivion by the end game. It's trivial to have well over 400 dps with optimized ammo. One upside is you can just tank the strength to 1 for your build since you get three from implant plus old world blues spine, and realistically you won't be using any other weapon. It does anything from long range sniping to hosing down a swarm of dealthclaws at point blank. Yes, a gauss rifle or a laser minigun may be better specialist weapons, but a laser rifle is like 80% as good at both, so why bother with the additional weight?
The modded laser rifle is arguably the best weapon in the game. It performs well in every metric and situation. Its the 10th best DPS in the game 8th best against extremely high armor its ridiculously accurate it use common ammo is easy to repair it fires fast for closer range battles and crits with the double beam pretty much kill anything. Only the LAER comes close to competing with it against high armor opponents and thats only in midrange battles against 30 armor enemies . Theres no weapon which does that well against everything is easy to put together/maintain and has such good perk supprt to make it even more worth building around
A minor correction with the vanilla modded laser rifle: The beam splitter is actually as broken as it is because it's bugged to add two additional beams as opposed to one (for three beams total) Because critical hits register per projectile, the beam splitter gives the laser a crit damage range of 22-66, with 66 being guaranteed on a sneak attack. With maxed crit rate and damage, the modded laser rifle has among the highest functional DPS of any weapon in the game, even though it doesn't seem to be the case on paper. Great review btw. You're crushing it with this content, dawg
I run a vats ballistic rifle build. All American, Survivalist, That Machine, Palencia, Gobi, Christine, etc. but the fully modded laser rifle is always in my load out. It's just too good, especially with laser commander perk which I always take late game. Great weapon!
The videos description of the glitch here isn't totally accurate. For analogy, lets use "100" as a baseline. Typical laser: *100* What beam splitter is supposed to do: 65 + 65 = *130* What beam splitter actually does: 65 + 65 + 65 = *195* And each beam has it's own independent critical hit chance.
I was waiting for this review, laser rifles for me are the bread and butter in fallout weapons since there iconic and there good enough to explore the wasteland. I wish there was an option for the laser rifle optic to only zoom in more and not use the fat lookin sight.
I tend to use Plasma Rifles instead and I thought the beam splitter was inaccurate at medium to long range because beam splitted. However, after watching this video, it may be worth having a go with the modded version. Currently doing a Mercy/explosives run though. Top video! Any chance of Plamsa rifle next so we can compare?
It’s hard for me not to use the modded laser rifle. It’s so damn good and it annihilates everything on very hard difficulty, and I’d take it over the plasma rifle any day since it has a much better range and hits crits constantly
with the proper set up an AER14 prototype can be made as a powerful crit weapon. the setup requires you to be mindful of what you're grabbing thought 1st recon beret (5% Crit) Light touch perk with Ulysses Duster (5% Crit)+ (5% crit) max Luck (10% Crit) Finesse (5% Crit) both tiers of the "set lasers for fun" challenge completed (4% Crit) Built to destroy (3% Crit) Laser Commander (10% crit) all of these boosts give a flat 50% crit chance before accounting for the AER14's X2 multiplier for crit chance. Ulysses duster can be tough to get however if you switch it out for the Elite Riot gear and a copy of true police stories you can accomplish the same thing. you have some leeway with the build as you can effectively hit 90% and call it a day since you will be hitting a ton of critical hits. comprehension will double the effectiveness of true police stories and in turn you could get good enough crit chance.
I’d love to know as well cause I’m playing the game literally right now and it’s x3 not x2. Also it feels like hot ass. Maybe it’s cause I’m on Xbox and something is different? Regardless it feels next to unusable. Just did the van graff quest and was tickling the legion at the ambush with it. Safe to say I’m putting this thing up.
@@drivernephi5587 nope, it is not. Fully moded Laser Rifle is better, has more damage by microfusion cell and use only one microfusion per shot, AER14 uses 2.
@@drivernephi5587it’s better if you’re using VATS and that’s about it. The modded laser rifle like all multi projectile weapons should not be used in VATS as it gimps the hell out of their damage potential. The exception is shotguns with slugs and only slugs because those work extremely well in VATS.
Meltdown is a blessing and a curse. It somehow takes away from the smooth feel of the weapon, but at the same time jumpstarting the Caesar's Legion Space Program is satisfying in its own way.
