Ronaldo before his knee injury was just insane to watch. The one after his injuries was still incredible. In fact most top strikers nowadays would've been happy to have had the career that the injured Ronaldo had.

If it wasn’t for the injuries and the hyperthyroidism, no doubt he would’ve been the best ever. I didn’t see weakness in his game before 1999. After he came back he was at 70-80% of what he was, still was one of the best in the world. Won the ballon d’Or, and the top scorer in 2002 World Cup. One of my favorite players of all time but so unlucky.

I am from India and France 98 was my first major football watching experience. I was too small in 94 when Romario was the star. During 98 I was 12 years old and I remember the build up to the world cup. My dad was a major football fan. We did not have cable tv back then. And fortunately the world cup was telecasted on our national channels which were the only available channels at that time to us. I remember my dad getting excited whenever there was a brazil match, infact if I remember correctly, the first match of the world cup was Brazil vs Denmark or something. Ronaldo was the first name I got introduced to. My dad used to say, whenever he got the ball, the stadium used to go crazy. Decades later now as I read about it, I know he was infact true. Such was a magic of Ronaldo, that made me instantly fall in love with Football and Brazil. I followed Ronaldo until his last world cup 2006. My dad passed away in 2022. But these memories will always live with me for the rest of my life.

He dominated the world on one knee and we talk about him a decade and a half after he retired. In between that time we have been graced with Ronaldo 7 & Messi and he’s still brought up. There’s no “if he didn’t have” he did have injuries and he still managed to be the goat. That’s not withstanding the genius of Ronaldo and Messi as well.

I am over 40 YO and surely old enough and had the chance to see them all starting from Maradona , and take it from me , that guy R9 when he 1st appeared in world football at Barca and then at inter b4 those serious knee injuries , was the most unbelievable, jaw dropping thing I’ve ever seen in this game Words can not do justice to describe him

The scary thing is we never got to see R9 reach his true potential due to back to back major knee injuries yet this man came back in time for the world cup and still be the leading scorer. He was truly a phenomenon.
