as a pistons fan, i knew as soon as ben left the team, we would never win a championship ever again. i remember in 06 the pistons philosophical mindset changed with the introduction of a new coach that was incompatible to Wallace's playstyle. had larry brown stayed in detroit, no doubt the pistons would have retained wallace and most likely went on to win another championship. in 05, they were a few minutes from repeating if not for some lapses on defense. (cough rasheed wallace.) i mean the fact that the pistons didn't even return to another finals after his departure just proves how much the pistons benefited from having his defense. Really this team collapsed after chauncey was traded. those two were the most important players on the team and they kept them going.

As a season ticket holder during 2003-2007 I witnessed this man play. Stats CAN NOT account for his value. He was a joy to watch, we were never out of a game because of their clamp down defense. When a big play was needed on the defensive end of the court Wallace ALWAYS came through. You need to do nothing more then watch the (5) game sweep against the Lakers in the finals to understand his value. He was relentless and disruptive. God Bless this man, he is an example of hard work and good character.

Wallace wasn't just a great defender at his peak he was arguably the greatest defender in the past 50 years. Besides Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell nobody in the history of the game had more defensive win shares than Wallace in 03-04. The two highest playoff defensive win shares belong to Wallace as well. His 03 and 04 seasons were worth 25% more than any other defensive season in the past 30 years. Think about that, no player in 30 years has been worth even 75% of what Wallace was worth defensively in his prime. Just an absolute freak.

How is he not in the HoF already? Nobody can deny he was the heart and soul of an NBA title team, that was also runner up in 7 games next year, made multiple All NBA and D teams and was 4 time DPOY. If you win a league wide award that goes to the best Defensive player 4 times, that itself should get you in.

How Tracy McGrady is in the HOF and Ben Wallace is not is a damn joke. TMac never accomplished half the accolades Big Ben did.

Andy said it People care more about offensive players than defensive ones mainly bc they're more fun to watch That's the predominant reason why T-Mac is a HOF and Big Ben is not although I think he deserves to be a HOF

@286mic
@286mic 5 лет назад
@@jcvlooogs5706 you're a joke. Potential and talent don't get you into the HOF idiot. TMac had 5 good years in which he accomplished nothing. Wallace is an all-time defender, multiple time defensive player of the year and champion. Seriously do you know anything dumbass? Calling someone 10 when you yourself is clearly no older than 12 to think that being a good player is enough to be in the HOF. Don't have kids we don't need people like you. Moron.
@286mic
@286mic 5 лет назад
@@makis7383 that should have no bearing on why he gets into the HOF. Penny Hardaway did just as much as him and made the finals and isn't in the there. But TMac is? There is no way to slice it where its logical TMac is there. Short prime and he accomplished nothing outside of 2 scoring titles.

A DOMINATING DEFENSIVE FORCE OF NATURE. I've never seen anything like this guy before, during or since his time. Loved watching the Pistons play back then, even tho I'm a Bulls fan. I think he'll get in in a few more years myself. He deserves to be in there.

@kobebryantken
@kobebryantken 5 лет назад
He shines bright in Pistons because he has a lot of scorers around him. This undrafted guy worked his way up to be an all-star. Although he’s undersize, he’s so hard inside the paint that even Shaq was having a hard time scoring on him.
