Psychic + Electric coverage is stupid good in gen 1 NU, very little switches into it. Just recently the meta got its 2 most broken mons banned with Poliwrath and Raichu like a few weeks ago and who knows how good Mr. Mime will shape up to be after this, but with its track record of being good in pre-alpha with Venu being around before it rose to uu, in the Golduck Era, and then with the Golem drop from UU, I expect it to do very well.
Yeah why did it get a boost to it's attack? I know they weren't thinking of Mr. Rime being used as a physical attacker. At least i hope that's not what they had in mind.
@@beegborg3303 you’d be surprised with the amount of conspiracy theories about this. Just search up Ash’s father and it will probably appear next to Ho-Oh
@@jaschabull2365 That is definantly true. I mean, look at Magmar and Electabuzz. They look so goofy, but then evolve into big monsters (not much stronger though)
What's blowing my mind is that between Mr. Mime, Mew, Wobbuffet, Wynaut, and Deoxys, every ADV Uber Pokemon is either a legendary or a pure psychic type.
It's so strange how lackluster Mr. Rime is. It could have easily been given higher stats without being broken at all. In fact, if you increased all of its base stats by 10 points each it would STILL be bad.
Can we talk about how mr. Mime robbed jynx? Dude stole her type, got a pre evolution AND got an evolution whilst jynx only got a pre evolution and no evolution? Heresy!
It’s funny that arena trap dugtrio is only allowed in ADV OU and banned in every other generation while obscure mons like mr mime and cacturne are banned in the tier.
@@joaomacedo111 If dracovish was choice banded and you kept hazards clear, G-mime would out speed it and kill it with the quad effective ice move. If it was choice scarf, you instead used it as a revenge killer. It also threatened a couple other mons in OU with fast 1 shots due to its nice speed stat putting it on a favorable speed tier. It also cleanly 1-KO a post dynamax Gyrados when it starts it sweep as a focus sash (if you cleared hazards) will stop the 1 shot and let him revenge. Of course, the best gyrados counter was Ditto anyways since at the start he was the #2 (becoming #1) pokemon in OU at launch due to how broken dynamax was.
@@MakoShiruba lol, like man I REALLY don't get it... its ONE thing to "clown around" and slack off during your job.. but how does "slacking off" apply to being a clown when being a clown IS YOUR JOB(as in your ACTUALLY getting paid for that)? So they're slacking off on stage? No... they're ENTERTAINING you... and clowning around is their gig, their schtic, their thing. they ain't slacking off. . .
@@Dave_The_Musical_Fisherman "Strong Pokemon. Weak Pokemon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites."
@@matteodotdpsatgmaildotcom2451 For kadabra is simple, he just does the same as alakazam but on the lower tiers, and clefairy should be the same as clefable but after gen 5 eviolite clefairy is played diferently due to friend guard iirc.
Mr. Mime Galar absolutely slaps as a low tier pick in both doubles and singles draft. Crazy good movepool with great speed and utility especially with eviolite.
I'm really hoping that Mr. Mime gets an evolution in one of the upcoming games. It seems unfair that its counterpart gets one, but the Kanto version doesn't. I also think it would be a cool justification for Mimey returning in Pokemon Journeys.
you're the only other one I've seen take issue with these intergenerational evos being packaged with regional variants. Like how sirfetch'd technically improves farfetch'd by giving it an evolution of a regional variant and leaving the kanto form as useless as it ever was. I just wish these new evos could be regional alternatives, like how exeggcute evolves to a. eseggutor in alola or koffing to g. weezing in galar
I'd like to see Mr. Mime get Draining Kiss. It may sound immensely creepy and certainly won't change this Pokémon's fortunes very much, but Technician puts it up to 75 base power before STAB. That's just 5 power away from matching Oblivion Wing in effect. It's something I might actually try on a casual playthrough.
The ADV part of this video is truly incredible, pretty much a perfect summary of what makes this channel so great. It's at the same time well written, entertaining, very informative, concise AND an incredible look at the evolution of the philosophy of Smogon's policy. I was looking forward to this one a lot but this was even better than I expected, absolutely sensational work from BKC and the whole FSG team!
I clicked the link, saw Gloom withh eyes open, got an incredible feeling I can't describe, paused to go to other video... I paused at another Gloom moment. Oh.
Honestly, I've always been waiting for Mr. Mime to gain an ability that sets up a screen on switch in. But, you'd have a 50% for either Reflect or Light Screen so you wouldn't be able to choose the exact one you wanted.
Non-Shiny Pokémon varied in coloration in the Stadium series depending on their nickname. Normally the guaranteed way to get it to look "normal" as it's depicted in artwork and anime is to give it no nickname at all. I'm unsure why a non-nicknamed Mime is so yellowish though.
The mention of Psychic pokemon on Gen 1 this time around made me realize they made quite a bunch of them, but for some reason only made one ghost type pokemon line.
Yeah, ghost and dragon were so clearly tacked on in gen 1 (not just having one evolution line each, but practically having no moves of said types) I wonder why they made type specialists for them over types that were more established at the time like normal or flying.
You know, they say that if you level up a Mr. Rime at night with the Event-exclusive move, Baddy Bad, while it holds the Black Sunglasses; its cane will become an icy glock, become an Ice/Dark Type, and will evolve into the one and only: Mr. Crime!
back before dracovish was banned and rain teams were more common along with seismitoad, mr. mime was one of the best pokemon to have as an emergency counter. and similarly to melmetal in national dex, i was the only one who used it, so it also had an element of surprise to it. but when dracovish was banned, pokemon home released, and kyurem came out, i no longer had a good reason to use it. i still really miss when i was to only one who used melmetal too...
Galarian Mr Mime and Rime are two of my favorite pokemon competitively, not because they're overly good but because I love gimmicks and the amount of random stuff you can pull with them is great.
Mr. Mime’s base card from the PTCG is op in 2021. It’s ability only lets it take damage from moves that do 20 damage or less. Inb4 “wah it’s not legal it doesn’t have 230hp and 2 abilities”.
Mr. Rime was a late pickup in my first VGC draft league. Despite it being on my team for only 5 weeks or so, I picked up 6 kills with it and was on my team for the last 3 weeks.
I am honestly surprised that Mr.Mime had such an impressive career despite being overshadowed by other stronger psychic types it's entire life - I honestly thought this was gonna be a *_sub-10-minute whimper for Mimey_* - it's really cool to see these sort of pokemon posessing some extremely specific but powerful pockets of niche over the years, showing that *_MOST_* pokemon in this game can *_TRULY_* find themselves a place to call home *_SOMEWHERE_* in the competitive scene
Mimien was my ace back when I was a kid and I have no clue how a randomly aquired Mr.Mine with psychic, shock wave, metronome, and recycle was able to instill so much fear in my little group.
So ADV Mr Mime ruined an entire metagame and got exiled to Ubers as a result. That... that is not at all what I was expecting to hear when I clicked this video.
So I created a fun Mr.Rime set while playing Pokémon show down and the set is Hypnosis,Nasty Plot, Psyshock, Freeze Dry and the item is the Blunder policy so if I miss my hypnosis I can plus 2 speed making me out speed most Pokemon
