thank you so much, for god sake, im a 15 yo pianist and i literally dream with being able to play this masterpiece. like 2 years ago, i saw this like an impossible song for me or almost anybody. but now im here, playing it, maybe a little slowly and with some fails but theres at least a progress. this video helps me so much with it
I'm also around the same age. I recall that Aminenz said he was practicing a lot of Chopin and Liszt in the period where he did this cover, so I guess you should practice some of that.
Strangely enough, Animenz's Unravel went from impossible to one of the more manageable pieces in the last year. I think after playing Akmigone's Smash Bros Brawl main theme, Marasy8's disappearance of hatsune miku, and a few of Kyle Landry's pieces, the speed of this piece has slowed down from my perspective.
@@roksdecim8421 My thoughts after following people like kyle landry for nearly 2 decades lol. It's super hard regardless of an advanced postmodern perspective developed from intense study and crazy level practice. But like... It's not end-all. There are people playing 6 note extended 13th chords with one hand across 4 octave leaps twice a second, people creating velocity techniques that make czerny and liszt look literally slow, and unbelievable level beautiful dynamic technique being developed by pianists across the world on a daily basis. Hard itself is a subjective description of difficulty derived from personal experience. The same people who call something hard might find it easy just for putting more time into it before developing an opinion. By default anything your hands are physically capable of is technically easy by the perspective of a snails pace + patience. Then there are things some people can, some people can't without therapy/dexterity training. I.E rapid double thirds which is by default physically impossible looking to most humans. Few weeks holding a ball with one side of your hand at a time and it's just a normal series of motions. Then like what 0.001% of pianists can just DO it? lol Pretty rare to say the least, but all that said, it's not that it is difficult. It's simply that it requires more than simply doing it.
I'm already three years into this, so I can't give up. Edit: To all of you wondering what grade I am in or why am I so slow, the short answer is idc. I couldn't care less about grades and stuff. I play the piano because I love playing anime songs. Classic songs are great, but I don't care enough to learn them (generally). For the same reason, I am very slow. I don't practise efficiently nor with a proper schedule. Why? Because that would take the fun out of it. I do try to be efficient to an extent (like learning some basic techniques from the net and trying to practice daily), but I focus on having fun. With this mindset, I've come quite far and I am very proud of myself.
@eat morechicken I have been learning other pieces too, but I still want to learn this. I know it's gonna take a long time, probably years still, but I won't give up.
You can watch the edited version here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3HUWS61gQds.html. Let me know in the comments if you want more content like this! Disclaimer about the stream: I've been playing the piano for 17 years, but I'm not a piano teacher. This is a discussion of the piece from my point of view, and I actually don't recommend learning this piece until you have sufficient experience in playing the piano!
I think these kinds of videos are really cool! I learned this piece at one point, and comparing the techniques I used with your fingerings and techniques is really interesting.
Animenz saying how this piece was a "mistake" reminds me of how Chopin kept some of his pieces a secret from public cuz he thought they were "mistake." Turns out they were masterpieces~!
I like how you point out that animenz doesn't play the chord jump in his live performance. This song is too difficult even him, the guy who made the arrangement XD This is a great breakdown. I love the detail you go into with this! Really well done. Would love to see a similar kind of breakdown of his arrangement of a cruel angels thesis. Keep up the great work!
He said that because its even too difficult for him to play it live and he gets constantly asked to play it. Ofcourse he is technically capable of playing it but he would invest some serious hours into it to keep it "fresh"
Man, you really have small hands and then also you did tackled all the difficulties. Why didn’t you liked the original video? Your teaching was great Thanks mate
I wish this came out 2years earlier when I was still learning the piece. Now that I have mastered it, it's interesting to see how others approached the piece as well. I wish all those aspiring to play this piece as well all the best!
Thank u Halcyon for this in my opinion great livestream!💯 U explained it very well and I will come back to this stream in i would say about 5-10 years. Untill then, i wish the best to everyone who tries to learn this arrangement now.
I've pretty much just started learning piano so this song is way above my head, but seeing your process on learning a piece is great. Would love to see more like it!
Yes I definetly want more of this content iam actually very good of playing the piano but watching you explaining this piece makes me feel more confortable because you explains what to expect while playing it. Thank you very much
I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but for intermediate players like me it can be good to: a) play this at 75% speed b) leave out notes. eg: section A3 the higher part of the RH octave section D1 the lowest note of the LH at the end of each bar section F LH the part where you have to play 2 notes simultaneously [aka copy the D2 LH pattern] good luck and enjoy this piece!
I am an absolute beginner, i can play a couple of songs and have a bit of coordination but i cant read any sheet music. That being said i find you very inspiring instead of being discouraging. I love your style and find you endearing.
I had courage to ask my piano teacher to give me permission to play this piece. She refused saying it's too complex and after that she was using all time of my lesson for explaining why I should play only classical music instead of smth else.
This is the only reason I started trying to learn this piece. Definitely agree with others to continue this teaching format! Much appreciated and inspired!
i love the idea of this type of video! haven't watched the whole thing yet but can't wait to ^^ wondering if this will inspire me to try to learn it or give up lol
10:46 As a pianist with years of experience, I would also like to point out that there are two ways of playing this. First is playing with one finger and the other one is changing the fingers. Playing with one finger gives one an advantage of being easier technique to do, while not necessarily being a wrong one, and it makes it especially easier if you don't have much experience with the piano. However, keeping your finger stiffed and your hand relaxed, both at the same time, might be a bit difficult as it also requires some experience to do which many beginner pianist might lack. This may cause many people putting too much stress on their left hand which can lead to difficulties playing the following part. Changing the fingers (that means circulating between them) needs some practice, as it requires a bit of coordination between fingers in the left hand, however, it gives much less stress on the left hand and also gives a player good practice for other potential pieces. For this exact passage, the finger order should be 4-3-2, 3-2, 2, 3-2, 3-2 (for the left hand, with 4 marking the Ring Finger, 3 the Middle Finger and 2 the Index Finger)
I'm currently learning how to read sheet, and your video is insane. I wish i get your level one day 🔥. Piano is in my heart, and i want to become a great musician no matter how hard it will be
Thank You So Much, It Was So Interesting To Understand And To Learn All The Breakdowns. Please I Would Love So Much You Do More Video Like This. If Possible, Can You Do One Of Your Own Arrangements? I Would Love To See Any Of Your Railgun's Arrangements :)
honestly, how much time did it take you to write down the notes? Fantastic man, I appreciate the hard work! I think everybody who is watching this do so.
(You should definitely do more content like this while giving your thoughts, I've played piano for awhile but have made next to no progress because it's been on and off and I want to understand how I should be going about reading/understanding different parts of difficult pieces. (I'm only just beginning to learn to understand better sheet music xD a total failure I am...))
I love this type of video! I think it would be awesome if you could do a vid like this for his Key medley. I really struggle with it and you seem like a really talented teacher, even if u don't think so.
I love this so much! I thought it was impossible for me, but after only watching 18min, I gave it a go and it... seems.... almost doable? Will be watching the rest. Can you do this for His “We Are” as well pls hehe
Hey, is there any chance of doing this style of livestream/video of animenz arrangement of this game? I'm currently learning it and it would help a lot!
for the parts in section B I don't need to use my left hand for the notes in some of the chords. Having monstrously long fingers is a blessing in some ways
Great break down. But yeh this song even after about 2 years of studying it. And playing it. Still cannot play it up to mr. Animenz speed. As some parts if you speed it up idk it just sounds soooo muddy and if you dont use the pedal for it... it sounds too broken lol... the fingering is great tho. If you have big hands thats a plus side... what I mean by big hands is you can hit the big 1 and 3s (ex. C to E with 1 and 5 or 1 and 4.) This piece will feel much more comfortable. But overall this breakdown analysis is extremely detailed and very very good. As halcyon said dont rush it... play and practice slowly and section by section. As there is no point trying to speed up it wont sound right and you will break ur hands lol.
Most of the comments: I’ve been trying to play it for months or years now, this’s really helpful Me: I don’t know how I ended up here, this’s wayyyyy to (impossible) advance for me as a beginner 😶 but this’s fun to watch, imagining I can play it one day lol
yep yep Always considered myself a decent pianist until I tried to play unravel ... I guess now I can "play" it . By that I mean that I make a TON of mistakes at full speed .
to me @14:53 the 1 4 fingering at the top octave then switching to 1 5 makes it a lot more difficult. I like to stick with 1 5 personally as I've already learned it that way lol. Honestly i don't think it's that difficult at 70 to 80 percent speed to hit the octave jumps. It really gets hard after you get to the 90 to 100 percent speed but i'm building speed over time it's how i'll be able to perfect it. Edit: Also idk why but like 25 to 30 hours of practice I can almost play it perfectly (1st sheet). I find that very weird considering how hard people consider this part and piece...
Saaaame ahahahah. My upright's in my parent's house and i'm staying near my university, so i only used my old 5 octaves electronic one, then i sometimes stare at it when i see i need even lower/higher octaves before giving up 😂
did you sight read this? because that’s some really good sight reading lol. I know I’m not great at it, but I can’t even come close to playing it with your ease given that I’ve been playing piano for over a decade.
Now your theory. Animenz uses a lot arpeggios that are very repetitive. Usually if you recognize the chord you can play the arpeggio easier without reading the sheet
I'm still sad that Animenz gave up arranging like this. His current arrangements are... well, not exactly easy, but way less complex. I get why he does that - arrangements like this and especially like the "My Dearest" one are hard to write, hard to play and hard to listen to. The average untrained listener doesn't understand how this is better than just playing the melody and the chords with some rhythmic variation, because to actually appreciate what is happening you need to have a pretty analytical hearing and UNDERSTAND what the arranger wants to say. So he decided to stop doing this. I think that's a real shame, because to me, this is the "gold standard" of what a good arrangement should be (maybe on par with Pianeet's and James Chou's stuff).
I’m a grade1 piano player but I stopped taking piano lessons for almost 6 years now. However I do still play the piano here and there, learn some songs from time to time. There’s no doubt that I want to play this piece too... is there any song suggestions before I try learning this?
