As English/Spanish native with an advanced level of understanding in Japanese, Japanese was perhaps the easiest yet hardest thing I’ve had the pleasure of learning. It was the hardest because of the sheer amount of time/hours/sweat/dedication it took me to get to my level. it was the easiest because I could go through 12 hours of daily study while I was actually studying the language and every day it would feel like it had only been 30 minutes…. Motivation is key. Yes, you could brute force anything into your brain, but without motivation you will make things 10 times harder For example, learning Korean (from Japanese) is perhaps the absolute hardest thing I’ve had to learn simply because I could hardly bring myself to do 1 hour daily because I don’t really have motivation to learn it as much…and yet doing a single hour of Korean feels like it’s already been 20 consecutive hours. Moral of the story, find what makes you want to learn the language and incorporate it into your studies….time will fly by

As a native english speaker, the hardest part of learning Japanese is the completely new alphabets. After that its not so bad.

the only thing that makes japanese hard to learn is the writing system. if you have the chance to live and work there, have a few lessons every week, a small dictionnary in your pocket then you can pick it up very quickly. and japanese people are patient with gaijins and also helpful. if you study japanese at school, no native speaker as teacher, then it is very hard...

The hardest part to me is trying to be familiar with SOV system because the 2 languages I can speak are SVO systems. Also Kanji sometimes makes me feel a bit overwhelmed 😂

I personally think Japanese isn't too difficult to learn, just takes a lot of time and dedication. If you often take breaks you'll probably find it difficult to learn in the long run ^^"

I'm an English speaker learning Japanese. Learning Japanese has put things in perspective for me, that as difficult as Japanese is, English must be CRAZY difficult for non-English speakers to learn. Like, super 10 on the difficulty scale. Confusing, non-sensical, and just plain hard.
