His parents are atypical refugee made good stories. There are many of them although not everyone is as rich as his parents. Hardwork, discipline, adaptability goes a long way. I like him because we share the same admiration for the late Lee Kuan Yew. A towering intellectual and doer. If some idiots think leading a dot in the ocean with nothing and growing Singapore into a first world country is easy, try doing it in other dots or bigger countries. We judge on actions. Talk is cheap. I told my friends about a former supervisor. I told them, I learnt so much from him. Excellent leadership skills, brilliant and indepth thinking. Maybe that is why our current stage of world affairs is in doldrums. We should trying measuring these 'world leaders' IQ and thinking skills. LOL.

There was an extraordinarily profitable trade of a certain set of products from Laos, upper Thailand, Myanmar in the 80's, 90's which mostly went undetected through the borders to Australia. This kind of "trading" created enormous wealth for a few years, until these "traders" decided that property was more legitimate.

The Spotify seed round offer - Michael shouldn't beat himself up about missing that. $1m seed is a lot of cash if it represents a significant portion of your portfolio and as he said "it's a bit much". He's a smart man to not take that offer because in an alternate universe, Spotify could have gone to zero. I'd once more push back on his idea of putting capital into property. As an asset class, it's not as liquid as owning equity in businesses via the stock market. He could run a simple rate of return calculation on his property portfolio via the S&P 500. I'm curious to see if his properties returned more than just investing in the market.

If you can live in a country _ study, work, have time to dine with your family everyday, and ensure you can instil discipline in your children then there is hope. If there is a high statistic of family break up, teen suicides, teen pregnancies, kids loafing around as there is no one to monitor them while parents are busy working to make ends meet and wake up with wealth due to hard work but a dysfunctional, broken family then you cant say anything good about the country.
