Amazing! 🙌🏻 I also started running at 38 with couch to 5k, then half marathon, now training for an ultra as I turn 40 (birthday today!) I lost 36lbs, transformed from sedentary into running 5 times a week, and started actually caring about my health and wellbeing. I had just entered recovery after an opioid addiction, and running really helped me rebuild my life after a very difficult period. My mental health issues (anxiety, late-diagnosed ADHD and severe depression that began after the death my partner in my late 20s) are also so much better after many years of struggle, and I've discovered a passion for nature and adventuring outdoors that brings me so much joy. I've also gained so much self confidence and belief in myself, and am now applying for a masters programme that has been a dream of mine for many years. Running isn't a magic fix, but it really does give you the tools you need to change your life 💖

First of all, love love your channel and your positive attitude to running. I am the same age as Simen, and I would never be able to run the crazy mileage that he does without getting injured. I think this is where Simen stands out, just being able to recover from the sheer mileage he is doing. Regardless, @Göran Winblad, an episode about how to handle big mileage for the average runner would be extremely helpful.

I respect what he has done immensely, however, if he began to run for his health, I must say he looks terribly unhealthy. I think ultramarathoners are nearly as unhealthy as bodybuilders and strongman competitors. I’m not criticizing him, only questioning whether the stated motive matches the solution he’s come upon. I’m in wonder of his strength following the death of his wife; I don’t know that I’d last long were my wife (and very best friend) to predecease me.

@@iknowyouwanttofly It’s very well known in the ultramarathon community that extreme endurance sports cause a huge free radical load on the human body with the heart and vasculature being especially affected.
