Know how it feels when you fell off ladder. I fell at work over 2 weeks ago and both my knees hurt. I can't even walk up one step without assistance. Was at the pharmacy to get my meds and I had to walk up one step to get into store. I couldn't do it. Luckily a person saw I was struggling to get up the step and helped me.

Don't use the fireplace as an anchor. the old mortar will most likely not hold. Use one or more of the adjacent trees. If you use ones that are large enough with substantial enough root balls you should be ok. Trying to use the fireplace is a recipe for disaster. Afraid you might be asking for that fireplace to come down on top of you. It's either that or you can sink pairs posts to a depth of 3+ foot to 4 foot and concreted in and spacing them at least 3 feet apart to use as anchors. Done this before and it works fairly well using a chocker between the posts to anchor to on jobs with the weight in the range your dealing with. Be safe, and good luck my friend.

Thank you, Jason, for your suggestion. I also considered using a post as an anchor, but I think it would likely need to be made of metal.

It came to me watching this video. Investigate the “Sampson Pry”. With that simple device, a single man could push the cabin off its foundation.

I'm not usually a naysayer. But I'm not confident that your plan of using "Rollers" will work the way you might think. I don't know how secure the chimney is to act as an anchor for one. And the rollers would have to be very heavy duty I think to hold the weight without crushing or very least making them more oval than circle. Making it difficult if not impossible for any movement. And if the rollers don't give, then I feel that those old logs may not be stout enough. Another words you may have multiple sags in each log where a roller sits. Making it just as difficult to move as well. Maybe I'm wrong about it. But it's what my third eye sees. Is there a large tree behind the chimney side of the house to anchor too? If that was an option then the closer to the ground, the better. One idea that came to mind was using that nice foundation as an anchor point. Anchor some lags through the foundation on the side where chimney is. (I'd drill all the way through like you did with the 4x4s) Then run cables to the opposite side of the house. Use a winch to connect the two and tweak it very slowly. Also if you lower the house at same time it will go in the direction you're pulling to as it is going down. Obviously it would have to be done slowly. But either way you decide to do it, I wish you luck. I'm not 100% sure which way is better. But as long as you pull it off safely, it doesn't matter. Good luck! 👍

I appreciate your thorough analysis and concerns about the plan! It's always valuable to consider different perspectives and potential challenges. You raise valid points about the feasibility of using rollers and the stability of the old logs. Anchoring to a large tree or utilizing the foundation as an anchor point are both intriguing alternatives worth exploring further. Safety is our top priority, so we'll carefully evaluate all options to ensure a successful and secure relocation. Thank you for your well wishes and support-here's to a safe and successful endeavor! 🏡🛠️

I am sure yoo have learned a lot of lessons on how to raise a log home that is rotted at the lower few feet. I think the simply way of raising any home is use very large timbers that are inserted at the level where the rotting has ended or salvaged from point. If you than build the foundation you can lower the log home and just remove all the rotted timbers Where the timbers are taking the weight you end up with that gap after you remove them. The main log home will be resting on the new foundation. Where the gaps are can be filled in at that time. With that plan, you would have made it a lot more simple.

I also think using the chimney is a recipe for disaster. It just isnt stable enough for that type of pressure and will certainly come apart. You have alot of big trees to anchor to. Also, is it really worth making that wall square? It doesn't look off by that much...but I really dont know how much it is off square. Please be careful, y'all work so hard...i want to see you reach your goals. It's a fabulous project, I'm so happy you are saving this cabin.

Logic says that if you lower the cabin on the side of the chimney, and raise it on the opposite side, it should go back in place.... Of course, I am NO engineer, so what do I know?
@thezaytsevs
@thezaytsevs 4 месяца назад
That's actually a pretty logical approach! It sounds like you have a good grasp of basic mechanics but only thing is where everything is attached to the chimney would have to be redone completely .
