Even though the SM64 community is as open as it gets, anyway, this is commendable still. TASers and people like sockfolder or rather recently krithalith, who make the consistent setups are the backbone of SM64 speedrunning. Most runners mention these guys, but I still feel they are somewhat underrepresented (i barely can recall two names because of being too stupid). Treybordo is one of them now, i am glad his channel gains so much traction.
This man made a video about the world record history, then it instantly got broken and he made another update, and then he beat the record himself, respect btw it was absolutely not self-centered don't worry
The idea you were being self centered never even entered my mind. You're explaoning how to do a speedrun route that saves time. I watch tons of videos of exactly that.
I am sure that someday this will be done in a full 0 star WR speedrun, probably there will be a setup or something, also LBLJ in the BoB stairs instead of the pillar. I remember when nobody believed that Carpetless was going to be possible but at the end a completely different strat had to be discovered and now its possible. All of this is just the beginning of something beautiful.
i could see the lblj happening but fr this trick is unbelievably hard and too many things need to go right for it to ever happen in a run. if somebody gets it 2 times in a row i’d maybe be more inclined to believe it can happen, but idk man, it’s really hard.
@@treybordo I would have tended to agree with you, but after seeing the rise of youngsters like Suigi, anything seems possible. People are incredible. The next few years will be super exciting.
Probably there is still a piece missing to build a semi-consistent setup, probably a bit slower but still faster than not doing it, I guess we just have to wait and see!

I’ve always thought about that BLJ since I first saw it. Everytime I tried it I always dismounted too early & never saw a guide on how to pull it off. Closest I’ve seen is a similar BLJ in the first bowser level. It’s nice seeing someone else attempt the same idea & be able to explain it in full detail. Also this wasn’t self centered. You’ve earned this record 👍

The only way I see this trick happening in a run is if Suigi or someone else is behind by a second in a short category and does it to save WR. Otherwise it's probably not happening.

@treybordo 4:43 what, if you just completely hold neutral there (kill all of the speed) and then re-accelerate normally and jump into the pipe like we're used to? wouldnt that make it more consistent, but still be faster than running/jumping through the wind?
Welp, I’m glad I didn’t watch the other vid of yours that RU-vid has recommended to me nonstop lol. I’m something of a speedrun/TAS spectator for the past 15 years or so now. That being said, it was only a few years ago that I thought “huh, that BLJ in BitS seems RTA viable,” and I’m happy to be proven right at least in a single-star setting!! Great job!! However, I don’t appreciate your pessimism, my guy!! If there’s one thing that I learned in all of my years of watching pretty much any and everything SM64-speedrunning-related, it’s that naysayers will be proven wrong eventually. If blindfolded speedrunning and carpetless has taught me anything, it’s that all this BLJ needs is some sort of normalized setup and refinement. With enough practice, it’s gonna show up in each category of WR, I’m sure of it. Fantastic work once again dude. Huge props for the achievement. For a game like this, where THOUSANDS of people are vying to be the best, a single-star WR is nothing to sneeze at.

You underestimate speedrunners ability to go for the impossible. I believe it IS gonna happen some day. Has to since it is possible to do RTA. But as you said, not for a while.
I assume just BLJing across the gap and not into the pipe isn't useful as a timesave in a standard route? I don't know how stuff works, it does seem like people get slowed down by the wind a lot though.
Its just too risky of a strat to go for. I could maybe see someone trying to do it in one of the shorter categories, but in the longer categories? Definitely not
@@cash-onlycaveman6637 well, 70 star bans BLJs so even if people got good enough, it can't happen. For 120 star, you have to get the red coin, so it would probably save even less time lol. That said im confident it'll be in the shorter categories atleast by next year
