melee is abstract, and i notice a LOT of players oversimplify melee's win conditions by foregoing positional advantages for damage like, all the time. You don't always have to combo hard. Yes, combos are great, but learn your gimps and resets.
Gimps resets and tech chases/other situations with few options. I remember when I realised just how much I can simplify the game by ending combos or extending through tech chases instead of going for longer “true” combos.
