As soon as he starts describing memorization as shades of color, I got so confused. That's such a unique way of doing it. Memorizing sequences is always sound for me. I used to be able to go for a crazy long tong on simon based on the sounds alone.

His technique is pretty common. But association is great for memorization. Colors and shapes I believe is a common method of association but it can be Pokémon for heaven sake! Like Archean period of earth history is named after the Pokémon Arceus and is when life first emerge. But it can be totally random with no real association. The letter “A” is red to me and also well behave, while “B” is blue and is a sassy bitch.
@jtbrown7716
@jtbrown7716 2 года назад
It also sounds like my man has synthesia. It's when your brain associates different sensory inputs with things that aren't usually put together. Colors and numbers is actually a fairly common one, especially those in STEM fields. Him mentioning "conceptually this color cause I couldn't find the right shade if I tried" matches what I've heard other people with Synthesia describe. It's really cool to see it utilized this way!

Actually, associating colors and shapes with specific things, often abstract concepts is a form of Synesthesia. I have that as well, as soon as he said "I'm not sure what the shade of the ideas are and I couldn't reproduce them if I tried" I was like, yup that checks. Fun fact: The whole "tying a color/shape to an idea" memorization strategy is also how people are able to do things like memorize and recall the order of a shuffled deck of cards. The human brain remembers ideas like this a lot better than just raw data
@kariemelhanan8878
@kariemelhanan8878 2 года назад
is it just simple association then? As in have as many cues on recall that can relate to the thing you're trying to remember so that at the time of recall you have a higher chance of remembering things?
@onlysmiles4949
@onlysmiles4949 2 года назад
@@kariemelhanan8878 Kind of, yeah In the specific case of the deck of cards, one way to do this (or at least the way that I once learned to do this) is to break the cards up into blocks of 3 cards each, and tie each card in that block to a person, an event/action, and a place ("Elvis ordered drinks at the Bar" might translate to, say, king of spades/6 of clubs/4 of hearts), which would give you 17 scenarios to remember and leave you with one single card left over to keep track of on its own. It takes a fair bit of practice to get good with it, and Crow's color/shape strategy honestly sounds better if you can get the hang of it, but it's surprisingly easy once you get it down.

Yo, awesome video! I love "seeing" more people do blindfolded stuff! And the explanations and step-by-step at the side are amazing. I might have to steal them for my own blindfolded runs. Do you think you'll try to do the whole game at some point, all the way to the end?

As a vod phrog I can say that even though Eric is able to memorize parts of this giant list of movements only after a handful of tries this was something that took many hours. Great job Eric, you make us proud, keep at it.

Not really, it seems that for Pointcrow it's easier to visualise numbers, for others it's easier just to remember numbers. Everyone has a different learning stategy, for me it's the easiest to remember things that create a logical sequence and (in best context) encloses for example it's very easy for me to remember the cycle of a red blood cell since it repeats and operates in an enclosed environment (single organism) and it influences other processes and it all works together (the reason why I study biology and maths lol) My mind works on sequences, Pointcrow's may work more on established ideas, someone else may memorise based on sentences and so on It's also fascinating how my main hobby is creative work (mostly digital art) even though it may seem as my brain is more analitical than creative, brains are crazy

The way you memorize stuff sounds like a type of synesthesia. Like people who do math by seeing the numbers as colours or shapes. I have mild synesthesia, but it's more related to sounds having colours and patterns. Very cool!

I feel like people underappreciate how incredibly hard this is. Many people can't beat parts of the game as is, and doing it completely blindfolded is an extraordinary feat. Sure, you have a memorization technique, but even remembering this as of itself is already incredible. Kudos!

Eric, I'm sure other people have pointed this out, but you have spatial sequence synesthesia and grapheme-color synesthesia. That's what makes you think of times, dates, and numbers with colors and shapes involuntarily. I have that as well and it's actually super common (sss about 10% of western population)! Really cool that you're sharing this with us!
@carlycrays2831

It might be common among us with synesthesia, but trying to explain it to people who don't have it can be really frustrating. I have had people get mad when I bring it up, like I'm making it up. It makes me feel like I'm crazy sometimes. It really makes me feel less weird when I see someone else just casually say they have something like it

He has synesthesia. The sounds and numbers have "colors" associated with them. You can see them in your mind's eye. So for me, "i" is associated with white and "e" with green. The letter "t" is a yellow gold. The number 1 is white, while 0 is a sort of dark grey. 7 is a tan gold. Sounds also have colors. Brass instruments sound gold, but loud bangs are white, bubbly noises are sort of blue. Everyone is different and there are different types of synesthesia. Honestly, I didn't realize how weird it was until I was in college and I tried to explain that an orchestra piece sounded golden to some friends. They thought I was nuts lol
