I have been building a pipe organ in my house since 2014, and I would like to document the project for your viewing pleasure. Before I can post videos about what I am working on now, I need to give context. That’s what this video is all about; it covers the history of the project from 2014 to the end of 2019. All of the music in the background was played on the organ, although much more recently than the timeframe discussed in the video. If you enjoy this, let me know and stay tuned for part two!

Good job! I also have the same disease - I installed a 1900 Harrison & Harrison (Durham, UK) in the barn of my house in France but was disappointed at the lack of anything above 4ft. I wanted at least a 15th, so I added key contacts with the idea of using a direct electric chest for the 15th. Why stop at a 15th? So I added a J W Walker 3-rank unit organ which with further extensions has added 10 stops. The JWW organ I have designated a "Choir Organ" and is a floating division playable from either Great or Swell. I haven't documented my work as you have done, but the end result is a 23 rank organ which is played every day - well worth the effort! Hope yours gets finished soon.

Oh my, that organ is beautiful!!! I have a great room with a 36’ ceiling…without the carpet, the acoustics are amazing. If I was about 30 years younger I would be fingering out how to fit a pipe organ in this amazing space. 😉

Good to see someone else doing an organ project, I have been working on a four manual twenty rank theatre organ project for about 12 years and have six ranks playing, look forward to seeing further videos. Garth Stevenson NewZealand

I have somewhat of a silly question I suppose: The pipe organ uses a blower to feed wind into the bellows, they regulate and provide the air to the windchests and pipes, allowing them to speak. Assuming this is a closed system, what happens when the blower is running but no one is playing or no stops are selected, where does all this air go? Do the bellows get rid of the air? What about when you select a stop and the bellows start sending air to that specific windchest? What if no one plays it? Does the windchest now gets rid of the extra air?

I also am interested in doing this, wondering where you get your pipes and counsels? I have found several sites to purchase pipes, but it is very expensive even for used pipes. I also have not found very many windchests, so I figured I would have to build my own.

I know one good strategy is to find churches that are closing, and offer then a free organ removal service. (Often these things go to the scrapyard!)

I've acquired parts from all over the place. A particularly helpful resource is the Pipe Organ Garage Sale Facebook group. Best of luck!
