Always good tips Tom...I usually spray hose first just to blow dust or wet heavier dirt to soften before cleaning properly...of course don't want it to get dirty in first place !
Hi Tom, just got delivery of my Black Model Y 10 days ago, and I gave it my first wash using some of your tips. I didn’t have all the wash cloths yet, but will do soon. Thanks for sharing and I love your videos too.
Great video Tom! I've never been game to wash without a thorough pre soak and rinse, but this looks the biz for a car with only a light coating of dirt!
Thanks Tom, few quick questions. Difference between Costco towel and Amazon? Can I use this solution for white car? Is this solution frank mentioned? Also he mentioned 5 ml while you advise 7 ml. Will that be ok?
I think this method of car washing is known in the detailing community as the Garry Dean method. He also recommends filling some of the wash solution into a spray bottle to presoak the car. He would also use one face of the towel per panel rather than on multiple panels.
I found that the dry yellow Costco cloth can also be used to dry the glass instead of having to buy a blue glass cloth to do the same job. Fluffy side to dry the car body and the smooth side for the glass
Why have you opted for rinseless wash instead of standard washing methodology? I feel you are unnecessarily introducing micro marring using this method, unless of course you have some sort of water restriction. Also worth noting that swirl marks are not actually circular; they are actually straight lines that appear circular due to the way the light reflects off the surface. So you won’t avoid swirls by washing in straight lines. But thanks for sharing your method.
Thanks for your comment. I guess at the end of the day it’s about achieving a balance between minimising swirl marks yet achieving an acceptable finish 🤷♂️
@@LudicrousFeed Very little chance of introducing marring with ONR. Whatever slight marring that MAY be introduced, will be removed the next time you polish the car. I have watched many videos on ONR, including those from Yvan Lacroix, the former Guru at Optimum. His opinion was that you have much more chance of marring using the 2 bucket method with traditional car wash, as the car wash has no lubricating properties. I prespray the panel(s) with the ONR solution before washing with the Big Gold Sponge. So quick and easy!
Sad news for me, my detailer said there is a supply shortage and freight delays, my full PPF wrap is gonna be delayed another few weeks at least :( At least I have great tips on how to keep it clean in the meantime! Awesome work, thanks Tom
@@tintuu6546 because the car cost $100k I think it's worth keeping the paint pristine in case I decide to sell it later, and I like the look of the satin/matte finish, and it's self-healing from minor damage.
Mate 100k for car and 1/4th of that 20-25 grandes for ppf, wow wow, you guys have so much money to spend than people at some parts of the world live in 1 cent food a day. I would rather maintain car clean like TESLATOM and upgrade, that way you don’t lose money too and also get another new car and you don’t spend unnecessarily 25 grandes
Tom I’m watching your videos multiple times and love it, I’m planning to clean it first time after 25 days now. Can you please do videos for internal cleaning, should be quick and straight forward; especially what products you use like baby wipes, abd where all you clean? Recommend touching camera lens too? If so just mr siga microfibres cloth?
Questions: you use glass towels to clean cameras I suppose? Also for the interior rear view mirrors, steering wheels, seats and on top of dash or trim abd even the glove boxes and Center consoles and USB ports front and back and the lights, what do you recommend. Can you please do a detailed video like this for the interiors? With the products in description
Yes glass towels for cameras is ok (they’re behind glass anyway). If I clean interior, I just use microfibre towels usually and Dyson handheld vacuum for carpets/floor mats. - May do a video next time I do a full interior detail
Thank you and you mean two laundry bags one for green and one for yellow and put both bags together into same load? I’ll reuse earth choice washing liquid from Woolies?
Great stuff. I was just googling how to wash a Model 3. When I saw your video in my feed I assumed it was fishing out an old one, but no, just uploaded! Thanks for all the good tips
Good video, but as already observed, your car looked spotless before you started. I am experimenting with this technique after watching your video 5 months back demonstrating this method by your detailer. On my dirt road my M3 gets very dirty and apart from hosing down first, I do NOT wring out the towels before wiping over the car, but have them sopping wet. This is how your detailer advised. I wouldn’t dare rub as hard as you with a a damp microfibre on my dark blue car. The detailer said 5 minutes to wash a Tesla using this method. In his dreams! Like you, it takes at least 30 minutes. This is because you need to go back over the car, a panel at a time, with a damp microfibre and then a dry microfibre. If not the process leaves a lot of streaks. Bottom line for me. It’s not much quicker than a hose down, a quick 2 bucket wash and a towel dry. And I feel less nervous about accidentally rubbing some grit into the paintwork. PS Get yourself a small step stool for cleaning the roof. Much easier.
Thanks Brian, appreciate the comments. As I mentioned, the amount of time this technique takes does depend on how dirty your car is to begin with. As you and others have said my car was quite clean to begin with BUT to be fair it has been ceramic coated and I do clean/wipe it quite regularly hence never really letting it have a chance to ever get that dirty 😉 Good point about the towel being sopping wet: I guess it depends on how dirty your car is to begin with. My bottom line: I use this technique for a ‘maintenance’ wash to keep it shiny every 1-2 weeks. Thanks for the tip about the step stool 👍
Hey Chandra, check out some interior cleaner (I use Nextzett interior cleaner, which doesn't leave a glossy residue) with a microfibre cloth, followed by a once over with aerospace 303 UV protectant 😉
What’s the recommendations of how to wash these towels after use ? Both glass towel and yellow one.? I believe we should wash glass and body towel Seperately
Laundry bag for green glass towels and they can be washed together with the yellow towels. Give the microfibre towels a quick rinse before throwing into washing machine for best results. Do not wash with any other fabrics/clothes.
Sure thank you, look forward to the video and especially please cover any wipes should we use for steering wheel, seats etx and also read view mirror. Also all consoles and glove boxes
looked easy enough that I could probably manage to do the same with my car. How often do you wash the inside windows and I presume same as the exterior or do you just use the glass towels for the inside?
Just wanted to let you know the Amazon link to the wash bucket results in a "Can't be found" error page. But I've ordered some Optimum wash and microfibre cloths you linked :) Will pick up some cheaper buckets from Autobarn or something.
Why Autobarn? Well, I found a different bucket on Amazon for about $30 but the shipping from the U.S. was *$90* !!!! and also not covered by Prime. No way, for a 900 gram piece of plastic, lol. Even the shipping on the rinseless wash was free, and that's gotta be close to 4kg.
did our detailer teach you to go back and forth cuz I had three different detailers tell me not to do that. One swipe over in one direction and then below that another one swipe the other but neve back and forth.
