Thanks for this video, i am always at pressured spots it can be SO frustrating!! Been thinking about getting into big swimbaits and found your video. Congrats on your youtube success!! You talk great to the camera!!
I can say that the trip trout is the business have caught many big ones that bait at parks but dope man cool stuff for the knowledge and letting people know
I live in Phoenix! My Guy is speaking #Facts! Urban Ponds are definitely a challenge here in Phoenix as opposed to fishing to Lakes. New Subscriber here! Need to link up sometime! 🙌🏿💪🏿✌🏿💯🙏🏿🎣🛶
Dude I love it!!! I post urban and golf course fish on facebook swimbait groups and get HATED on by trolls sooo hard 🤣 They say I’m cheesin’ it and it’s not real cuz it’s not a lake fish 🤷♂️
I do the same thing and get the same response from swimbait snobs. Getting thumped on a swimbait regardless of where you're fishing is a beautiful thing
Best video yet man! I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the Dowzswimmer, i've only really seen Japanese videos on it and other than the hilariously shitty subtitles they're not much help. The bait nose dives as you work it like a glide until it washes out, those japanese dudes were killin it like that but i don't think that would work here very well. I've just been swimming it with a couple twitches to make it glide and then back to a swim. More followers than with other baits but not much more success, it does dead walk pretty well but i haven't put much time into working it that way
Tha Chap is for sure tough along with papago but I still fish them my biggest out of papago is 5.5 I know there is bigger than that in there but heck its tough I throw the bigger baits always Love Your Hard Work Brother!!! Great Info!!! Cheers!! :))
Yeah man, both ponds are sooooo tough. I think there are some really nice ones in papago, just haven’t figured out which pond I should dedicate more time on. Thanks for watching as always my man!
@@crazybassfisher Hear ya I usually walk from zoo parking lot around half then up to middle go around then top and back most of time I get 0 LOL but fishing aint always about a fish Cheers Brother!! :))
@@crazybassfisherThe Killer Compas is Legit, I'm a Tackle-Otaku too, like Ben is :) . The Megabass Rat X&Rat-X Jr are great to and Brown&Rainbowtrout in Streams & Rivers love them.
@@crazybassfisher - great bait especially on a pond, you can fish it parallel to the bank and walk around the entire pond without making more than one initial cast (if nothing gets in your way). I lost one to a musky on our city lake here in Galesburg, Illinois. They are top water, not much action but you can twitch the rod constantly to make it wiggle going forward. Since I make my own swimbaits and fish a lot from shore on small lakes, I put screw eyes on the side slightly forward about where the gill plate would end or slightly farther back. It takes a little experimentation to get one correct. I now have a swimbait that I can fish parallel, and even swim it underwater about 1-2 feet. No bass yet, but I have had musky slam them. I think the Deps KC would be a great 'pin' bait, but you could probably do that with the rat as well.
Great vid Geoff! I do have a few questions that I hope you can answer/give some suggestions as to what I should do, but before I ask my question I need to give some info on the basis of the question. I live in north Florida, and I go on vacation with my dad down to south Florida twice a year. We have been going to south Florida for about 10 years now, and we always stay at this hotel that has a private catch and release pond across the street from it. I am 20 years old now, and I have fished that pond since the first time we went to this hotel in south Florida. It is a freshwater pond that has bass, bluegill, small minnows, turtles and ducks that live in it. The pond is about 600 feet long, and 150 feet wide, mostly shaped like an oval, and has crystal clear water. The maximum depth is 10ft in the middle of the pond, but it is fairly shallow around the edges. There is a short T-shaped floating dock on one side of the pond, which you can fish off of. around the edges of the pond is scattered cattail plants that start at the bank and grow about 3 feet out from the bank. In the middle of the pond is a large fountain that sprays water about 100 feet into the air. The pond has mostly a sandy/algae covered bottom, and there are no natural structures in the pond, like a stump, or a cluster of rocks. When I first started to fish this pond, I was around 10 years old, and I used hotdogs for bait. I would catch dinner plate sized bluegills, and 1-3lb bass, all on cut up hotdogs. After a few years, I transitioned to conventional bass fishing techniques, i.e. plastic worms, topwater poppers, crank baits, etc. Using these conventional bass lures I would catch 1-3lb bass almost every cast. This lasted for a few years, until I would catch maybe 4 bass every 4 hours of fishing. About 5 years ago when I was 15, I was fishing off of the floating T-dock at this pond, using a shad colored swim jig with a small paddle tail swimbait for a trailer, and I hooked and landed a 10.2lb bass. Since then, the amount and size of bass and bluegill in this pond has gone down tremendously (something has caused the bass and bluegill population to go down rapidly). The hotel that owns and manages this pond does offer fishing lessons for the kids who stay at the resort, where a staff member will take a group of kids to the pond, and they use cut hotdogs for bait off of the T-dock and catch bass and bluegill. Since catching that 10.2lb bass 5 years ago at the pond, I have caught less bass, and the bass that I do catch are no bigger than 2lbs. Since about 2 years ago, I have been dedicated to throwing swimbaits, and learning how/when to throw them, how to work them, what colors to use, line to use, etc. I have used 7-8 inch glide baits at this pond, a 7 or 8 inch bullshad, lipless jointed topwater wake baits, 8 inch hudds, a tinyklash, and others, but no bites whatsoever. I have been using 15lb and 25lb flourocarbon when throwing my swimbaits at this pond (15lb flouro for the smaller glides and tinyklash, and 25lb for the big glides and jointed swimbaits). I just got a new swimbait rod and reel, that is specifically for throwing 1-6oz glide baits and wake baits. The rod is an F5 Ghost Code 800 1-6oz, and the reel is a daiwa tatula 300hs, spooled with 20lb DRT nylon line. I haven't used this rod and reel at the pond in south Florida, but I will when I go down there this year for vacation. Now here are my questions- 1. Do you think fishing this pond is still even worth fishing, given that when I go back there this year there could be little to no bass left? 2. I am really dedicated to throwing swimbaits now, so what swimbaits, if any, do you think I should throw in this pond, given the condition I described that the pond is in? If you read this, and don't know what to suggest I do, or throw, and you do want to give me some suggestions, but need more info on this pond, and some other info, please feel free to DM me on instagram @850.charles or Facebook @Charles Charity, so I can get some advice. Even if you don't read all of this or answer my questions, it's ok. I really like your videos, and where your channel is headed. Watching your videos got me into swimbait fishing, and continuing to watch them, and others helps me learn what to throw, what line to use for what baits and when, what rods and reels work for which style of swimbait, etc. Thanks Geoff!
Hey dude, thanks for watching the videos! It just sounds like that pond is going through a bad cycle. All bodies of water go through cycles. Some cycles are great and some are bad. I believe it’s just a natural thing that happens. Honestly, if you have noticed a huge decrease in size and population of fish, I personally wouldn’t waste a lot of time there. One of our ponds here was just like that. My buddy caught a 9 out of it and it held a bunch of 3-6lb bass but over the years, the population and size has gone way down. I since moved on to find better bodies of water. If you plan on still fishing it. Maybe try fish a rat or wake bait at night. Sometimes if the body of water is pressured, those fish aren’t really active during the day and really feed and move around in low to no light conditions. Topwater is always a great way to fool a giant bass. Especially in a pond that has no features. That floating dock will probably be the best place to catch another giant out of there! Hope this helps in anyway my dude!
@@crazybassfisher I can't believe you actually read my whole comment! 😄 Thank you for the advice and suggestions Geoff, I will certainly take them into consideration the next time I stay at that hotel. As you read, I have fished that pond for almost 10 years, and each time we would stay at that hotel, it would be for 1-2 weeks at a time, and I would spend hours each day fishing that pond, so seeing it go from what it was to what it is now, is kinda sad. It's also going to be hard for me to not fish it anymore if I do decide to, cause there's always the chance that the bass and bluegill population comes back. From what I've seen, you are one of the few fishing youtubers who actually take the time to read and respond to your videos' comments, and for that I want to say thank you. Thanks again Geoff, you're the best!
Hey man I just recently started fishing swim bait lures. My first day out with one I got MASSIVE hits but one problem. They all got off. I literally missed 6 fish yesterday and it was super frustrating. What am I doing wrong? Am I not setting the hook hard enough, too early, got my drag too tight?
If you live anywhere in Phoenix you must listen to this Describing fishing some of the most challenging urban spots in the country Absorb this and you will fare well. He’s describing way more than those big baits. You can translate it to your baits 🤙 🌵🧀🐠
I’m new to fishing. I have a REVO4IKE - SHS - L 8.0:1 casting reel and I wanted to ask if this is an all purpose reel for cranks, jigs, flipping & pitching T - rigs, etc. I’ve been eyeballing the Tatula Elite P/F which is marketed for flipping & pitching. I am a bank fisher. Is this worth the buy or should I save my money and stick with the REVO4IKE? I am not sure if each technique requires a technique specific reel / rod. Thank you.
Geoff, bruh you forgot to leave the link for the DRT 5in - 6in lure with the soft tail. I could not find it and it sounded like you were saying DRT, but you were suggesting that rather than the large K9. Help??
What you say about fish getting used to 250s is really the main issue with pond fishing in my opinion. last season I saw it even in 3 days, I swimbait fished a pond for the first time and the bass were hammering my TKs, but second day they were already more spooky and followed a lot before biting, on the last day I finally didn't even manage to get a fish react to TKs, then I switched to a Jc178 and first cas I got bit! That really impressed me seeing how fast fish could get used to specific baits and actions but still be super agressive as soon as you change your approach
