Hey guys ! I hope you enjoy this video explaining how i choose my colors for my coloring pages. Many people have requested this video from me in the past and im so glad i finally got around to filming it. I hope you enjoy it !

The pencils im using to scribble here are mostly my Caran Dache supracolor soft 2- Aquarelle, water-color pencils .

I really appreciate your input on color selection. It was so interesting to hear you talk about gravitating to the colors YOU LIKE. I get so hung up on what the color "should" be that I seldom even consider whether or not I like the color. Maybe that's one of the reasons I'm often not in love with my finished pages. I'm going to work on unclenching a bit!! lol Also, your tip about selecting variants of the color wheel complementary colors - very helpful. Again, a suggestion to help me loosen up! Your work is always so colorful and fun. It's funny that it inspires me, but when I get down to my own pages, I default to "rules". I really want to keep this video in mind. Thank you! ❤

Yep, I can relate to what you said about choosing colors. Lately when I choose colors I look at the page as a fantasy (maybe a fairyland page). This helps me to think about changing to what color it "should" be into a completely different color that I like. Think Alice in Wonderland, or a magical forest. if that makes sense. When I do this I end up loving the colors on the page, and how it turned out in the end. Hope this helps a little.💖

Choosing colors is tricky and even i struggle with this as well whenever i color clothes or accessories and other objects, i never know what colors to use ! Lol . Keep practicing and coloring and your color selection will improve over time !

Some people are gifted with the ability to see colors differently than most people. I have taught card making, and the majority could not put colors together. The same with quilters, you can have great quilting skills, but the fabric choice is way off. I am gifted like you to see colors and put together great pallets. I give you credit for trying to explain, but for many it is a difficult process.❤

Thanks so much for all this information. It was so very helpful! 🥰This is the best how to choose colors tutorial I have ever seen. You kept it nice and simple, without getting into too much color theory and color wheel.💖💙💜 I really needed this. I thing I struggle the most is picking out the colors when coloring a page. I love to color, but really dread picking out the colors I'm going to use. Once that's done I always feel so relieved, and can enjoy the coloring!

Hi Maia thank you so much for an interesting and informative video. I agree with your comment about personal palettes, I only realised this myself when I looked at my Pinterest pages, I could see I gravitated to certain colours all the time. Your explanation on your colour choices was marvellous, this now makes much more sense (to me) and helps me understand your colour choices. The thing you have in bucket loads is creative talent and that is something instinctive and shines in all your colouring.

Wonderful video! It’s such a treasure to see your thought process. I love how you shared your favorite color combinations and provided examples from your colored pages. This brings your ideas to life. I appreciate how you said that everyone has their favorite color palettes. If you asked me what mine were, I would struggle to express them. But if I looked at my trays of prismas the answer is looking back at me with stubby little pencils that get used all the time. Thanks for helping me tap into my own ideas about color, by articulating your thoughts the way do!

What a great video! Most people only talk about the colour wheel, and I haven't seen one video mentioning using shades of the complementary colours. It's very nice to see your go to colours and your little tricks to make your pages look so fabulous. I often want to use too many colours. I colour parts of the page, and then I think, I already used those colours, I need something new 😅 Thanks for sharing this with us ❤

Hi Maia! Thank you so much for this video. I’m not familiar enough with my color palette but I struggle with blue…it isn’t one of my favorite colors either. I look at my Instagram and it’s easy to see my color pattern or style. I try to get out of my box and experiment and that’s fun but also nerve wracking. I think I’m better at color picking when I scrapbook because I’m not starting from scratch like coloring. Thanks for your tips!! I’ll have to experiment with them. Have a great weekend!!

Hi !! Yes scrapbooking makes it easier to pick colors ! Actually if ur ever stuck on picking a color palette, looking at hour scrapbooking paper pads is an excellent idea ! Hi Galit ! Yes they are Jolly Kinderfest pencils from Austria 🇦🇹 i got them on Amazon. Another good brand is the Cretacolor neon jumbo pencils

I enjoyed your listening to your thought process in approaching choosing colors. Do you have a favorite neon pencil brand ? If so can you share? I have some neons in my prismacolors but am interested in the bold blue and the red. I tried to see what brand of neons you were using on my mac desktop screen as big as I can make it but I can't make out the brand/s. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Eva !!! I love the neon prismas the best but the pencils i showed in my video are also great , they are called Jolly Kinderfest sticks its a brand from Austria !! Very cool set. Another cool neon set i own are the Cretacolor jumbo sticks , those are chunky but fantastic as well

I’ve just got the set of 12 tinted watercolour pencils from Staedtler, similar to the Derwent graphitint, I think you would really like them, they’re only about £10 😊
