FAQS! 1. How long does the job take? - Anywhere from 1-2 days for a standard 3 bed semi, roughly 80m2. With experience you can comfortably get one done in a day. 2. What are you spraying on the roof and how does it work? - DDAC Biocide from GKPRO. It destroys the biofilm and organic matter on the roof that's left behind and hiding in the gaps, the roof will self cleanse over the next year, anything left on their will be dead and come away with the weather cycles. Tiles will lighten in colour and the roof will be protected and growth free for a much longer time than other methods. Here's a snippet from a suppliers website " Simply apply and let mother nature do the work. You’ll notice dramatic results within 14 days, with the full process lasting for several months. The longevity of the clean will be far greater than that obtained from power washing or bleach." 3. Insurance, training etc. - You do not need training however it can be recommended, PASMA for scaffolding building also can help a lot. Insurance again isn't required but for good work practise and protecting yourself and the homeowner just incase... highly recommended. 4. Why disconnect the downpipes? - There is conflicting information about whether it's needed or not, but i'd rather not risk polluting anything so for the sake of 5 minutes to take them off, it's worth it in my opinion. 5. Where do you buy the equipment? - you can get roof scraper sets from Flexi scraper, spinaclean & some other sites. I buy my hoses, poles, fittings etc from Window cleaning warehouse (10% off code in description) I get my safety equipment from Arco, remember ABEK1 filters in the respirator. Scaffolding is hired from S.A.B Supply (4m platform height) & finally the Biocide from GKPRO (10% off code in description) 6. Why do you not pressure wash roofs? - I'll never say never, I have one coming up, I have nothing against it however the risk outweighs the reward for me. When done correctly it is a perfectly great way to get it clean. I find 95% of customers ask specifically for no pressure washing so it suits me well. It's a typical case of cowboy contractors giving it a bad name and ruining peoples properties to be honest. 7. Anything specific to look out for? - Flat slate tiles. Very high chance if built pre 2000's that they will be asbestos. Always worth a check, if its cement fibre it's fine but obviously asbestos is a no go unless you really know what you are doing. There's easier money to be made out there so I don't take those jobs on even though I know how to do it. 8. White spots, yellow spots left on the roof? - Lichen, this will degrade over time after the chemical treatment, white lichen will take many months, yellow will be gone in weeks along with the remaining moss. Only way to really get rid of lichen instantly and efficiently is pressure washing / steam cleaning. Hope you enjoy the video, if anyone is wondering anything just ask and i'll answer. Have a great weekend!

Really awesome to see you focus on PPE so much. I'm a plumber, I see so many people try to be tough and skip out on stuff like gloves, respirators, hearing protection, etc. I've taken the mindset that professionals choose to wear PPE because it's the proper way to conduct your service and not just because the boss says so.

People who skimp on PPE when they are young come to regret it in their 50s.
@orbtastic
@orbtastic 2 года назад
I don't understand the PPE averse people, it's literally less than £2 for a pair of safety glasses. Are people saying their eyesight is worth less than that? Same with gloves and respirators.
@Paul-XCIV2
@Paul-XCIV2 2 года назад
@@orbtastic I think it's a two part thing. When you are young you tend to think you're invincible. Coupled with that, people feel silly wearing PPE and don't want to be ridiculed. I'm tough, I'm a man, no PPE for me! Until they are in their 50s, knees are shot for not wearing knee pads, tinnitus from not wearing defenders, maybe if they are lucky nothing has ever hit them in the eye and they've never stood on a nail or dropped something heavy on their toes.
@orbtastic
@orbtastic 2 года назад
@@Paul-XCIV2 I think you’re right. I’ve worked in construction since I was 16 so PPE has always been a factor but I’m constantly amazed by apparently professional people eschewing PPE on RU-vid videos. One guy was using some really caustic stuff to blast paving and was wearing shorts, tshirt and didn’t even have shades on. Loads of people were pointing out how daft he was being. I don’t even mow the lawn without boots, eye protection and gloves.

You are correct in disconnecting the rainwater pipe. Rainwater goes to be treated differently than sink and toilet water so they are kept separate. No chemicals should go down the rainwater system. Even bleach shouldn't be used to clean a house roof without you first disconnect the rainwater pipe like you do.

gravel, dirt, anywhere that's not frequented by pets or plants, ther's usually like a few litres at most of diluted dirty bio. If they have a bad driveway etc you can chuck it in a watering can and drizzle it over it and get rid of it that way + give the customer a bit of a freebie (:

This is really helpful Sid. I'm maybe getting into the roof cleaning side of things for my business, and I could not for hell, or high water find anyone saying about what they do with the run off as I know you can't put it down the drain. My only other question is this. If you've used a towel or something to block of a pipe, you can't disconnect. What do you then do with said towel? Is it a put it in the bin job, or can it go in the washing machine for another use? I have been watching your channel for a few months now, and i always learn something new. So thank you, Sid, for all you do for your customers and us Internet folk 👍

Sid have you ever had to use one of those kitchen sink attachments that you can put a garden hose that then goes to the pressure washer? if so can you recommend one that works..Thanks Sid.

@@PartridgeExteriorCleaning Ahhh! Those are beautiful! I knew they felt familiar! I agree, they look really neat--I love how the lines twist around each other. It's very much something I'd consider for myself! I'm a nerd so I googled a bit about them (that and I REALLY like the look of them!) ... I was really interested to find some of the history: how they started out as being part of the indigenous tribal religions and shamanism but became tied to Buddhist ideas! It's so neat how things like that shift and grow over time :) Thank you for the answer :D

Can I ask a daft question? Why wouldn’t you just climb to the top of the roof with a safety harness and use a pressure washer to blast away all the crud then wash over with anti fungicidal stuff?

You would think ppl that live in attached homes would come together and split the cost for you to do the whole roof in one go. Are there no asphalt roofs in the uk?

It does sometimes happen :D and noo not really, I think it's too damp here

Asphalt is used on top decks of multi storey car parks in the UK. Not often used in residential.

Hi Sid, I see most of the jobs you do have concrete tiles. Have you ever done a standing seam metal roof? How do you dispose of the chemical water? Bravo BTW.
