A lot of ask you how exactly I clean the bioactive ball python vivarium, so here it is! Maintenance is rather simple to keep the terrarium clean and the snake happy.

Ok so I said I would link both the water spray bottle and the stain remover and they're out of STOCK. Well, I'll link the spray in case it comes back: amzn.to/2G2SXzX
You can create your own spray with a water/vinegar mix to remove stains though.
THANK YOU, TOP PATRONS.

GoHerping hi Alex what would you say is better..... feed a hognose snake every week or every five days?????? At the monument I'm doing every week!!!
@MrChristian54

It's better for your snake to leave the glass a little dirty, because they can't tell where the glass is when it's clean. So, they go crazy trying to figure out their boundaries, but if they have rubbed their scent all over the glass they can tell where the glass is and relax.

GoHerping I haven't seen how you set up your bioactive vivarium but if you add springtails, dwarf type isopods(dwarf whites or something), and other bigger type like powder blues or another cool looking kind, they will eat the dead plant leaves and the sheddings from your snake. They will also eat the snakes poop and it won't stink. All you would have to do is trim the plants, you can even leave the clippings in the enclosure.

This is so awesome! I've watched videos for weeks because I want my little noodle to have an awesome room. Then we had a surprise when we had to keep my friend snake as well because of the issues in Puerto Rico. It's a lot for me to keep up with with the surprise addition. I'm pretty much about to watch each and every one of your videos now!! I don't expect maintenance free but I have a full house with the other pets and so a little help is well... helpful. I also hate how "petstore plain" their enclosures are rn. I rambled but what I'm getting at is I'm excited to watch and get ideas on fixing up their rooms and making them more comfortable and manageable without being empty xp.

For the Broms, you can definitely remove the old leaves without causing any problems to the plant itself. An easy way to remove is to split the leaf right down the middle, kind of near the base, and then pull the two sides of it off. I guess like pulling apart a wishbone would be the best representation for what I’m trying to describe. Makes for fast removal without any damage. :) happy planting!

hey man i have a question i love your content anyway how do you maintain temps through the soil like hot 90 cool 80 where do you place thermometers i know in mt experience my heat mat struggles to get heat through even thick regular substrate
@alllivingthings2701
@alllivingthings2701 5 лет назад
I know you posted this a long time ago, but the heat mat is only to create a hot spot. You need to use a ceramic heat emitter with a dome or cage fixture that specifically say they can be used with CHEs and have a ceramic socket. Don't buy cheap bulbs either, make sure they are UL certified for safety. You should have the CHE on a dimmer plug so you can adjust the temps when necessary. The best digital thermometers/Hygrometers are by AcuRite. They are $6-$8 dollars and very accurate. You should also be using a temp gun to check temps around the enclosure for accuracy (they do not work through glass, FYI). If the enclosure is glass with a screen top, you will want to get aluminum foil HVAC tape and tape off most of the screen to keep humidity in, just leave a hold big enough for the CHE on top and maybe a few slits for air flow. Use forrest floor and ass in moss if necessary to raise humidity. If you put the CHE over the water dish, that will help raise humidity.

As for spray bottles, just go to the garden section of Walmart and get one of those pump up misters. They are perfect and cost less than half of what the equivalent version from PetSmart or whatever. Misters are way better than regular spray bottles.
@alllivingthings2701
@alllivingthings2701 5 лет назад
You shouldn't spray your ball python enclosure at all as it can lead to respiratory infections. I love his videos, but they need to be looked at as entertainment, not educational. This set up isn't ideal. Light can stress BPs out. I also don't see any way to measure humidity or temperature and no heat source other than a UTH, which only creates a hot spot and does not raise ambient temperatures.

Aren't isopods helpful to add to break down animal protein/feces? I thought ST were better for foliage, fungus, and mold? Springtails and millipedes are good for leaf litter breakage and soil health together I hear but having only one type of CUC in the bio limits its ability to self regulate to some degree doesn't it?

Your clean up crew is important, if they are dying off your doing something wrong. The leaves can fall off and mold in the moisture, it feeds the clean up crew. They return that nutrients to the soil for the plants. Idk if the clean up crew can deal with snake fecal matter though.

@sabzillagorilla
@sabzillagorilla 6 лет назад
Abigail Jarvis most snakes are better on terms of handling, toads generally aren't a good species for handling and interaction. Do not ever give an animal(especially reptiles) to someone as a surprise, though. Make sure the person knows all about the species and it's care, that the person really wants this animal, and they are prepared with a setup, supplies, etc. If you know your friend wants a toad or snake, you can of course say, "hey, I know you really want to look into getting this animal, can I pay for the setup and/or the animal as a gift?" Anyway, if you can talk about that, it's definitely a nice thing to do for a friend!

Katie Elaine she seems really attached to the Mexican black kings. I know their moisture requirements are much less intensive than my ball python, but I hear humid hides are a good idea. I'm just not sure where to buy. I've heard a lot of horror stories of people buying from breeders online and getting sick animals.
@abigailjarvis2203

Katie Elaine we're actually dating. She's inspired by my animal hobby and I thought when we moved together she could start a vivarium of her own. She told me on several occasions she's interested in the kingsnakes. She mentioned she thought the toads were cute, but it's really not the go to. I'm sure I'd end up taking care of it (which I wouldn't mind).

Abigail Jarvis I would say it definitely is a good idea to try and stay away from online breeders and big chains like petco and petsmart. Small local vivariums are good. Check to see if you can handle the animal to get to know it's personality and temperament. Are you planning on telling you're friend ahead of time? I'm sure she would like to go with you to pick it out. Also, I would suggest telling her ahead of time so there will be an enclosure ready and she will have research and setup time. A new pet is a big commitment and can bring lots of changes. Always make sure a person knows about the species and is ready to take an animal into their home before getting it for them😉

Do snakes stink? I really want to get a snake (preferably a ball python) but my parents are worried about the smell. I’ve had a leopard gecko which didn’t smell much unless I hadn’t cleaned for a bit, are snakes about the same as leopard geckos in terms of smell?

They don't smell at all. They only poop once a week, or once a month, or whenever you feed them. That's the only thing that could smell bad. Not nearly as bad as a dog, cat, rabbit, etc. A rabbit can poop 50 times a day.. and they like another rabbit with them, so that's 100 poops a day.. I had a bunny and we had to clean her cage every other day. Anyways I'm getting off topic, no they do not smell.

Stained Brain ok thank you, my dad insists that they smell bad but with having guinea pigs and hamsters in the past nothing can compare to that smell
