You need to make a "stick attachment" that would help you direct and target the end of the hose, vs just trying to flop it where you hope it will go. Faster, easier, safer, accurate cleaning.

There are still tetras in there you can see a few of them at the background. It’s amazing that they lived this long.

A good ratio of fish to plants. Lighting is timed right, like you said. And the fact that you don't mess around with it or add chemicals. It all adds up to a beautiful balanced tank. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

You could put a wave maker on the top at the back of the aquarium. Would give the short plants flow but not change the main flow the fish like.

you could the front window with a water/vinegar solution of 90/10.. less toxic.. but great resuts.. you can use cleaning vinegar or the one for consumption..

Frozen smelts, my 5 adults love them, they dont really like shrimps for some reason lol

I would like to recommend getting a 2 foot length of pvc pipe that is just a little larger than your clear flexible tube. slide the tube through the pipe until there is about a foot sticking out the end, the ridged handle will keep your hand safe and the exposed clear flexible tube will be gentle on the plants and you can see what is being sucked up.

Nice tank! I've always wanted a piranha tank. Some of the coolest, meanest looking freshwater fish.

The tank doing good cause u know what ur doin. For a fuller looking plant carpet transplant stems from the overgrown side to the other and it will look even better

What about a second wave maker lower down on the opposite side to the first keeping the flow in the same direction but making it stronger

I love this piranha tank so much. If this video was 2 hours long I’d watch it at least 2 times. I got my first aquarium back in 1985 and I got one piranha in a 55 gallon tank. Mainly because at the time the place I got my piranha said you couldn’t keep more than one without them fighting and killing each other. (No internet then to check facts) Anyway, I took great care of him and only used an under gravel filter along with a HOB filter. Did bi weekly water changes of about 20% using buckets. 🤣 Had that fish for over 4 years until I made a huge mistake when we moved. I won’t get into that but all I will say make sure the water quailty is good when you transfer your fish, no matter how healthy and sure you are nothing will happen. Currently I have 4 reds the same size Joey has. About 6 to 7”. I couldn’t have a larger tank or trust me I would have. No one shares my interest in piranha here so that’s another bummer. They expect more from them I assume. I think you should build even a larger tank for them and maybe add 10 to 20 more. 😂 Thanks for posting these Joey. And congrats on your recent marraige. Could you put some plastic sheet between front and back of tank so separate the fish from you

I used to do that method with my 12 piranhas but I would do it after a water change and every week, to simulate the rainy season so they would breed.

You could attach a stick to the hose so you can keep you hands out of the tank and reach further into the tank for cleaning

Not only the one with the bite on the back, but a few of the fish have their dorsal fins bitten. You can notice them cause they are angled funny.

Tie the hose onto a stick, no hands in the water and much better control of the hose while cleaning🙂

I think it’s successful because, it’s a balanced echo system! The plants help the fish , and the fish help the plants with nutrients!

What to the smaller tetras that were in there? Were they eaten or did you remove them?

You should add some red or purple plants to the back and center it would add more color to it and depth.

Mine were scaredy cats mine were never as aggressive as yours I would stick my hands in there without a second thought.

Plants are probably doing so good because all the fertilizer you give them from the food that the piranhas eat they're so messy and that stuff just goes everywhere and it's probably breaks down as good fertilizer for the plants

That is an amazing school of Reds. I think you're exaggerating the danger a bit though lol. I kept 6 of them in a 120g for years, I would shoo them out of the corners with my bare hand to gravel vac. If you want to see a good show toss a big whole Tilapia or Catfish fillet in there and watch the frenzy.

Time to put different fish in there

Why not wear long thick rubber gloves? Even if it won't stop a bite from making it through, you've eliminated any possible scent from cuts, or anything organic.

Very beautiful tank awesome video my grandfather had a piranha tank he would always be careful when he would clean the tank. He was aware where they were at because they would try to take a bite of his fingers,no longer around he passed away in the late 80s

You're right about the flow for the plant growth to the one side of the tank - just switch the flow to the other side, an watch it even out - also it will give the piranha a different way, so they might like the change of flow ..... win/win. I'm definitely jelly!

Why not tie that end of the hose to a stick that way you don't need to submerge your hand into the water . Quite simple really.
