How I configure and use the Contour Control in my Yaesu FTdx5000MP 

Boosting contour at the frequency where the voice is more intelligible brings in more noise too. I’m not going for fidelity. I going for intelligibility,. Dulling the noise with a contour cut helps me hear the words better than trying to pick the voice out of the noise that gets amplified when boosting with contour. Maybe my ears hear differently than yours. 73

@@n4hnhradio The Contour control works in the IF before the AGC so boosting the range where speech intelligibility lies will cause the AGC to reduce the rest of the signal (noise). So, using contour as a boost is still reducing noise. I’ve got contour level set to 10 and width set to 8 on my rig. You might give it a try if you haven’t before. 73’s K9YK

I tried boosting contour when I first got a FT-891. I’ve also tried it with my 5000. It still sounds more intelligible to me with DNR at 7 and Contour set to the factory default of -15dB and a width of 10. 73
