What you said made me tear up at the end. You genuinely care and understand. I don't know how to tell you how much I appreciate your efforts here to make people feel that they are worthy. That they matter. We need this, I need this. Thank you so much.

I don't compare myself to others but I do compare myself to before diagnosis and after diagnosis. I am so use to having multiple jobs and self employment. Now I can barely function to work. How can I get over that comparison because it definitely adds on to my mental health. I want to work so badly and when I lose a job or resign because it is too stressful, I feel like a failure. And it doesn't help that my husband and family just views it as me being lazy

Thanks! I try to not get wrapped up in my CPTSD and the dissociation that it creates in my head. Disability is something that I’m trying to make less impactful in my life and by using this social distancing time to focus on my strengths (without someone dragging my mind into the muck) I’m actually beginning to feel more empowered and less debilitated. Maybe, I’m finding my more settled footing in a wobbly world. I’m glad for your videos because there’s a sense of identification that others don’t seem to share.

I am really impressed. You are so young to have yourself figured out so well. I should listen to this video every morning. Btw, do you have any feeling that you have DID (dissociative identity disorder) as well as CPTSD, or does DID always come with CPTSD? For example, I often feel there is a war going on inside my head. It took me decades, yes I am very much a senior, to discover I have CPTSD and after that, more decades to discover DID, if that is what it is. Whatcha think? Thanks for this very encouraging and supportive video PTV.

DID always comes with CPTSD. CPTSD does not always come with DID though. Put simply... think of DID as the most extreme degree of CPTSD imaginable. You could also consider OSDD as an explanation for what you've been experiencing.

Nice to finally see a video about ptsd that doesn’t have the title of “how to heal” or “how to move on from” as if it’s something you just grow out of or get over Also this is a lovely video with very good vibes

My mind just did something more extreme to cope. No, I did not develop full blown DID but... well, my mind did dissociate quite a bit. So, how do I cope with the traumas and their consequences? They're just gone. With it being CPTSD, well, almost by definition, it is childhood trauma. Which for me was extremely prolonged. Basically, from 1977 to 2000. Most of that time is just... gone. Couldn't tell you a single thing that happened in my life in 1983. Just 1 thing in 1984. And on and on. 1990? Extremely vague memories. More like hints of memories. Been doing a bit of personal research and I think I should consider seeking professional help. For a potential diagnosis of OSDD or maybe even actual DID. Just because so much of my childhood is just gone. Although, for the life of me... I can't say I am aware of having alters. Maybe I developed DID, dissociating completely for years... to then, later in life, re-integrating. Which can happen as well.

I cannot even begin to count how many times I’ve told myself ‘I can’t give up today. I have dogs.’ I also remember being really comfortable with the covid restrictions. I said ‘can we make it 10 feet’ and ‘do we even have to have small social gatherings with 4 or less people? Can it just be like two instead?’ As far as music goes, sometimes leaning into it is helpful for me because it makes me feel less alone. I’m not very open when I’m in my feelings so I don’t really talk about it, and therefore never really get that from social situations. But I have to switch it up with a movie that has absolutely nothing to do with my shit. Something that is purely escape entertainment, or a tv show like Dr Who, where it can get heavy but doesn’t end in a bad note.

Your lucky to get so much help and even a dog. Im 32 living in london uk and as a black woman living with Complex PDST working so hard to give back and stay positive, i can't even explain how many times the national health service nhs has almost pushed me to suicide I'm. On my own been on my own for a long time tend to get used a lot by people, i am trying to re learn everything, bring a foster kid also added to my complex pdst. I do want to know is it possible i can deal on my own? I dont have a safety net and so afraid to talk to anyone about it out of fear of Being told I am overreacting Or I need to be a strong black woman. I hear anything like that again I'll loose it.

Your feelings are valid and you’re not over reacting in the slightest. Our brains are assholes. But I’m doing it completely on my own, and slowly I’ve been getting stronger and things are getting easier. And once i started being even the slightest bit kinder to myself, i started to find myself surrounded by people who care deeply about others. Just treat yourself like you’re your own girlfriend, in every way you can, and it’ll get easier one step at a time❤

By no means am i saying that I’m completely healed or even close. But today is a million times easier than functioning a year ago. I believe in you and your ability to re-train your brain. Call back your energy that has been stolen from you, and share as much love as you can with yourself. You deserve it♥️♥️

Please consider saying "complex trauma" many times in your videos, as most people think CPTSD is "childhood PTSD". This serves to confuse a great deal. I am hoping when DSM-5 gets updated with this diagnosis, it will be called "Complex Trauma" rather than CPTSD.

I allways say im not technichly dignosed. However i know I have trauma(weather its PTSD,C-PTSD or something else..its there) and I have adhd and GAD so,its a rollercoster sometimes. Seeing things like this can be helpfull. Also I rilly understand the "I don't feel confident and if I do its confident anuther shoe is going to drop" thing. I get that whenever I feel okay as well..just waiting to be throwen back to square 1.

I think ‘exhausted’ is probably a better description than ‘lazy’ :) Having all the thoughts, the feelings, the Inner Critic, and the hypervigilance going on is absolutely draining. I wish you all the best in finding your own way and place. I think you’re off to a good start, you’ve found this place. Kelela is wise.

@grindsaur
@grindsaur Год назад
@@sll110 I’m sorry to hear that you, and the dog, had to go through that heartache :( Overwhelm and depression are both awful, and both fit perfectly within the C-PTSD framework so there doesn’t have to be anything ‘more’ that is ‘wrong’ with you (for what that is worth). The brain has an amazing capacity to learn and re-wire itself when it gets forced to do so. It’s not easy, it’s exhausting, it’s often painful - but improvement IS possible AND worthwhile. Just remember that when it resists it is only trying it’s best to protect you, in the way it learned a long time ago (which may not be so long ago, I don’t know your specifics). Be gentle with it. It can learn but only through sufficiently small steps. I fail at this too all the time too, you’re not alone in this at all. But I have also succeeded enough to see that I have actually made some progress :) I fall back into depression and despair often enough, and down there I sure can’t see any (acceptable) way out. But somehow at some point, often when I share my thoughts and feelings with someone trusted, the curse lifts for a time and I can continue trying to understand myself and what happened. Sorry for the wall of text. I really hope that you catch a breakthrough soon ❤️

Thank you so much. Your ideas are wonderful. Im a 59 years old man and have struggled with this illness for 45 years. Im doing the work. I saw way to much verbal, mental and physical abuse. Its been a constant on my life. It's tainted every part of my adult life. I'm not who I used to be. Id like to be that man again.
