very nice! i like that approach and different from one other video i have seen that talked about counter milling. i appreciate the information and when i start building challenge locks i will give that a try. thank you sir!!!
Same way I do mine.. But I never knew those profile bits existed ! I made my own from a ball.. cut the top and bottom off so I get a nice countermilling like that. Great tips man! BTW.. really nice vice man.. dam!
Wow. The amount of brass dust that came out was straight up intimidating. Can this method be used without the sacrifice pin to serrate the chambers instead?
Maybe? The idea of freehanding in there with a dremel scares me a little, so I use a 6-32 tap to thread the chambers (right side of the thumbnail for this video)
@@affinity3470 sorry I missed this for so long! No, I've always done one or the other, but both in the same chamber is an interesting thought. My gut feeling is that it would probably just get all sloppy and loose with so much material removed. But it's worth playing with, I think. You'd need to make a pretty funky drummer, I mean driver, to take advantage of it, though. I'm thinking a gin with the top serrated or threaded sitting on a zero or one keypin. That way the driver serrations above the spooling rest below the counter milling in the chamber. Probably it'll just make the whole thing easier to pick.
Can ya use knife burrs? I have round and knife couldn’t find wheel burrs on Amazon. And I got way smaller than I thought. Shit😂. I think they are .3mm and not 3mm and down.lol.
Fox and Busch both make good burs that you can buy individually. I got a whole assortment on eBay because I didn't know which size I wanted. Turns out 023 (2.3mm) is just right for me. Here's the set I have. I'm pretty sure it's gone up $5 or so in the last year www.ebay.com/itm/JEWELRY-WHEEL-BUR-SET-12-PCS-006-TO-027-FIG-2-PREMIUM-QUALITY-BURS-FOR-JEWELERS/253941471841
