For our athletes who struggle with arm path, I've put together what I consider my list of arm action fundamentals, along with the nitty gritty details and cues that helped me the most in my mechanical evolution.
1:15 - Arm Spiral
2:55 - Glove Arm "Internal Torque"
5:24 - Scap Loading
7:38 - Tuning the Tension
10:03 - Syncing Arms into Plane of Shoulder Rotation
12:20 - Lower to Upper Timing / Sequencing
13:10 - Plyocare Drills + Mapping New Patterns
14:47 - Helpful Arm Action Cues

What separates Tread Athletics?
Unlike most training philosophies, we take holistic approach to strength, power, and velocity development. We don’ t just evaluate and address strength and performance, but lifestyle factors, movement dysfunction, and nutritional habits as well. Rather than fitting athletes into one cut and dry mold, we adapt our programming to address each athlete’s individual needs and goals.

As a uspta tennis instructor, an artist who's trying to explain BEN HOGAN'S golf swing, and a repressed 68 yr.old whose father died young who was a pitcher in the 40's, I must tell you how DEEPLY healing this video has been. It WILL change my life as I will strive to reach others at this DEEP visceral level. THANK YOU! I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS MOMENT.

I personally prefer just about all of your methods and opinions as opposed to other baseball velocity training companies that are online. You seem to really know what you’re talking about and not just pushing a business.

Question regarding the lead arm glove, an issue I have struggled with is early launch- will an improved lead arm contribute to later launch? Better arm health?? Thanks great video..

How do you effectively use the rational axis you demonstrate if you are a low three quarters guy, like I was and my son is. Obviously it's not the same, but how do you then take advantage of the required linear element without rotating then thrusting as you demonstrate as less effective. Thanks.
@treadathletics
@treadathletics 6 лет назад
Definitely understand where you are coming from with this question! Considering Ben is a low 3/4 / side-arm guy, himself, I think he covers how he uses the rotational axis effectively here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OZpD8SQy0hY.html&t=. We figured we would get some questions on syncing arms into the plane of rotation, so Ben covered this topic for different "arm slots" in this video. If you still have additional questions after watching the video, shoot them over to us at contact@treadathletics.com.

Do you suggest pulling down glove arm with athletes who are very mobile especially on the upper body? I feel like I’m trying to create more force by muscling up my arm and not capturing a large loop of energy
@treadathletics
@treadathletics 4 года назад
Obviously going to be a little different for every guy as far as how that cue makes their mechanics respond. In my experience, thinking about winding the glove arm (internal rotation + pronation) and unwinding during the second part of the acceleration phase (foot strike/arm flipped up to release) has had the best results. Again, every guy is going to be different based on their levers and mobility, but keeping that motion in line with the target (or more linear) has a tendency to balance the vertical and horizontal rotation of the torso/shoulders through the lead leg block. - Coan McAlpine
@samruben5750
@samruben5750 2 года назад
Clarifying question - should the throwing arm be raised behind the head/the arm spiral be finished when you begin to bring the glove arm in (IR to ER)? My sense is that would give you the best timing, with both shoulders externally rotating in sync, but I also see folks begin to pull in the glove arm/rotate the torso when the throwing arm is still parallel to the ground/flat.

like chapman, you have your elbow below your shoulder when arm is cocked... is there such thing as having your elbow too low or is that not possible?
@treadathletics
@treadathletics 6 лет назад
Thanks for the comment! Ben's elbow actually isn't below the shoulder in the "cocked" or flipped up position. The elbow is level with the shoulder; however, the shoulders are tilted back. If you are having issues with your elbow actually being below your shoulder at landing, I would recommend cueing it as well as assessing your lat/pec tissue quality and scap upward rotation. Stay tuned for a video on plane of rotation that will cover this a little further. Hope this helps!
@KT-ed8hj
@KT-ed8hj 6 лет назад
Tread Athletics, LLC gotcha. I actually have an issue with bringing my elbow to high. My arm seems to feel better and more powerful when elbow is below shoulder. I know there is opposing view points on this topic. Where do you guys stand?
@treadathletics
@treadathletics 6 лет назад
KT, if you are associating drag with being more powerful, they are not necessarily the same thing. Obviously, there is going to be some deviation from the elbow being directly in line (above or below) with the shoulders depending on the guy and his anthropometry, movement quality, etc..., but I wouldn't recommend cueing a low elbow to create torque / rotational force. If you are curious about the differences, I would recommend using objective feedback (radar gun) to get a better idea. Again, we are going to be discussing this concept a little further in the plane of rotation video coming out soon. But, in short, you are going to want to be in line with your shoulders' plane of rotation in order to maximize your arm path's efficiency / ability to transfer force.
