Some people are addicted to the Grail adrenaline; I'll admit that I'm just addicted to the hunt itself. All those $6-$15 profit sales can add up to pay the bills for both the luxe surprises + the everyday kicks I get from seeing the 'hidden' value in something, then imagining someone being excited to buy & use it all over again.

I'm with you on slightly underpricing against the standard sold prices in my general sales, this decision is based purely on how much space I have to keep stuff. The space vs price model is highly underrated. I disagree with those that say underpricing ruins the market too. It's cyclic & based wholly on external financial factors for individual buyers. I want to be there for those at the lower end of the market who still want/need the items I sell. Great content as usual 👍

Matt this is great. I have a number of questions about this that could probably be enough for a follow up video: 1 Do you do any promoted listings? 2 do you cross post 100% posh and ebay? 3 do you manually take down solds from the other platform? 4 once you list is there any follow up/edits or let sit? prbly lots of other angles. Thanks again - Mark

That’s the first time I’ve seen the eBay fees calculator and I’ve been wondering if one existed. My blocked list is getting bigger due to people who lie to be able to return an item although I’m a no return seller. I’ve also taken your advise and now have a maximum limit I’ll spend on clothing and shoes. I went to the Goodwill bins for the first time this week and am anxious to go back. I just need to stick to what I’m there to buy instead of getting distracted by some “cool” item.

Here is the main reasons to NEVER do free shipping imo. There is no gain in search anymore, you can’t keep shipping on returns, when you take or send an offer, you also take that off of shipping. Add up 2-4000 items a year..that probably pays a few bills for the whole year..for me it’s $7500 a year in lost profit all numbers the same just putting shipping on top!
@roberttuttle598
@roberttuttle598 2 года назад
I shoot for $10 profit (not hard fast rule) and when I am sourcing I estimate $12 (fees + profit) added to COGs and estimated shipping whether you do free for buyer paid. If the sale price fits into this equation I pull the trigger and purchase the item. ex: Retail thrift board shorts- $12 + $4 (cog) + $4.5 (shipping) = $20.50. So $20.50 would be my all in target avg sales price for that item to pull the trigger. Will sell for less so I shoot $10 to leave flex for negotiation and missed defects that would lower the value of the item.

I used to do free shipping until I started getting r.a.pped on returns . You can’t keep original shipping money from item doesn’t fit. It adds up trust me. Made the change and it saved me a tone of money .

I like the quick flip. It's kind of like compound interest. You turn one quick flip into 2 into 4 into 8. While one person might sit on 1. I'm a seller , not a warehouse! I want to capture the buyer that's ready to buy. I hate to pass up buyers. If someone is ready to buy, I want them to buy mine! Good stuff man.

Love this video, reassures me I am doing it the right way! to be fair, there are multiple ways of doing this but i find this to be the best way as well! Love the discussion on making $8 for the OP trunks, especially heading into summer. I find it totally worth holding a 30-40% sell thru a bit in order to make 200% profit, even if that is just $8.

"All of the above is valid" is gold. My model (live in a converted bus/small inventory/low overhead) allows me a maximum inventory of around 275 items depending on the season. I have pretty much all day to source and if I need better places to source I can relocate to find them. One size doesn't, and shouldn't, fit all. I think you had a video saying you had built your model on a small inventory size, which was my inspiration to build on a niche of men's clothing.

Another great video! Loved seeing the behind the scenes look at your sourcing process. Clothing isn't really my thing (still a big fan of your content though, I just esspecially like the vintage book cameos that pop up as that's quite a bit of what I sell). I did find what I'm fairly sure is a decent clothing score yesterday though! Paid $7.99 at the Thrift for a 2018 Ralph Lauren Polo USA Olympics Stars & Stripes Hoodie Size Medium (Made in The USA too), like new condition. I decided to shoot high as it seems to be in demand and there doesent appear to be many out there atm. Started it at $250 O.B.O. But we'll see what happens. Thanks again!

My philosophy is: Do I want to store it or sell it ? Having items that I continually have to sell similar or let relist drives me crazy. I try to price items to sell now, relative to sold items that I see, and hope for the best. Also, do you go with the suggested promotion percentage? Not sure if it would make a huge difference ?

I had an aunt that was a very successful antique dealer. The one lesson she repeatedly tried to teach me was "buy right and sell right" (I was a slow learner). She made sure to get her items at attractive/low prices, and then she sold well below market. Leave some money on the table, but sell fast. Getting the last couple of $$ for an item can really SLOW your selling rate.

I’ve actually - many times - posted the same item at the same price but one is free shipping and one is buyer pays (to see which is truly better) - I don’t have to worry about defects if both sell, there are work-arounds that are 99% effective - but unfortunately I have no definitive, statistically significant answer. It seems to vary by category and price. From my experience , media , short haul items , lower priced items, free shipping wins the day. Clothes , longer haul, higher priced, lowest eyes on price wins the day (so buyer pays). I have no better answer, it’s such an interesting question. I think it might actually just be a case of group/mass psychology - everyone is doing a certain thing in each category , so buyers get used to it , and then expect it, and that shifts buyer behavior moving forward - I don’t know. Interesting issue. But also - great video , I continue to learn from you, new brands / tricks, all great stuff. So helpful! 🙏

How many items can you list per hour? I find myself factoring that in too. My tolerance for lower payout increases with items that are quick to list. Pricing when there are no comps can be a challenge. Do you ever use comps from a different platform?

Oh My, I sold my Bianco Briani, Loro Piana (1st Suit I ever sourced) for $75, listed at $99. I was a little worried because the jacket was a 40 Short & the pants were a 32 Short so I thought the market would be pretty limited. Great learning experience, sold in less than 2 weeks and I only paid $7. Also sold my 1st Suit jacket, Seersucker Palm Beach 48Tall for 49.99, (paid $3.50) sent to Germany through Pirate ship simple export international. Thanks for helping me grow my store. Love what I'm learning from you.

There is definitely some truth to the "race to the bottom" theory. However, the market is what the market is as well. Reality is nuanced. A good rule of thumb is slightly overpricing an item and then running a 15 or 20 percent sale. These kinds of tactics work well much of the time. This is one of the benefits of having a store on ebay as an example if anybody is on the fence whether to spend the money to upgrade.

I used the fee calculator on items I shipped today. I will def be looking for lighter weight items. Even though you buy something for $1-3 and sell it for $20-30, the shipping of heavier items eats the gross profit. Great tool to have in my pocket.

Question: when doing free shipping…Does eBay adjust for the fact you are paying for shipping? Or do they take their percentage from the total amount you sell it for?
@insertnamehere5577
@insertnamehere5577 11 месяцев назад
The fees will be the same regardless, as eBay fees are applicable to both the selling price and shipping costs. Their reasoning behind this is so that it doesn’t penalize a free shipping seller. So either way you go. Free shipping or calculated shipping…the total is getting fee’d.

Not only that but USPS First Class Mail has been changed completely, 13 Oz max to 16 Oz max, plus 0 zones, to zone rate. It's now priced according to zones, just like Priority, and Express Mail is charged by zones and weight. So every zone ie: west coast to east coast, 8 zones I think, it passes through has increased the shipping costs. Hopefully that helps.

@lalothethread
@lalothethread 2 года назад
@@71capr yes you will be a top rated seller but your listing will not qualify as a “top rated plus” listing. In order for your listing (the specific listing itself) to show the “top rated” badge and for you to get extra shipping and fee discounts for the listing you have to have free 30 day returns AND free shipping. At the end of the day the customer only cares about final price so if I can hit the right price point with free shipping I’m going to do it. It makes my listings look better and it makes me stand out as a seller. A lot of customers will filter for only free shipping so you’re losing “potential customers” weather or not you have free shipping. I simply go for the options that eBay recommends. 🤷🏻‍♂️
