"Never had colours bleed on cold water!" Well, I have had bleeding with brand new blue, red and black clothes. But my grandmother gave me a nice trick against bleeding on first wash. Before washing, soak them in water with a ton of white vinegar overnight, then just skuish them so most water is out and wash them. Never had any "bleeding on first wash" since I've been doing that 😁😁

So true! I just spent 20 minutes of my single, no kids, clothes never get dirty, now when was the last time I washed my bath towel? life. 🤣 I think I watched being so amazed how lucky kids are these days. Growing up on a farm w/ limited water, my Mom would’ve whupped us if we threw something in the laundry that wasn’t visibly dirty. And dryer? Nope, we hung up outside. Carrying that to college to the dark blue Calvin Klein jean era, washing your jeans once a week was fancy. To this day, my clothes never wear out...and I, too, wash everything together.

Cheryl Nelson check your numbers for „most“ people. A lot of people can‘t even cover a $1.000 Emergency and a College student has over $20.000 in student loan debt on average. So don‘t get me started on „financially stable“. Jordan is an „expert“ because she has a lot of kids and gets it done well. You underestimate care work of (mostly) women and the skills to juggle all of it in a frugal manner.

I’ve always sorted both by texture and by color. By doing this method, my clothes never get fuzz balls and dingy, as well as keeping the colors bright. It also helps to do a double rinse with everything. You’ll be surprised to see how many suds come out during the second rinse. Not enough thorough rinsing of the clothes can also cause them to turn dingy and leaves a sticky film that accumulates over time. I like how well organized your laundry room is.

Save cash and use White Vinegar in your wash and it takes out stains and brightens whites. We use it all the time and it is Amazzzzing!! As for greasy, heavy stains, I use Dawn soap on the spot, rub it in, lightly rinse the spot and TahDah it is gone.
@houda567

For heavy duty stains use the multipurpose spray cleaner from Lidl. Spray it on the stain and send it into the machine. It's really unexpensive and save you a lot of money. You can use it to clean the whole house except for wooden furniture.

Fun Fact: to prevent wrinkles, lay clothes flat ontop of each other and square fold everything together then insert in basket. I have a client who hates wrinkles and I normally run out of time to fold and put away the same day. This allows me to be able to keep a schedule rolling and know that I can fold the clothes the next day with no wrinkles ✌🏽

The fact that you DON'T fold their clothes for them and actually have them do it themselves makes you a GREAT mom! We have always had to do our own laundry ever since we were old enough to do it. Even if all we could do yet was sort and fold. Our friends were always baffled that I actually knew how to use the machines and always knew what was clean and where it was without having to ask my mom. I really appreciate that she taught me how to take care of stuff like that before I was thrown into it as an adult.

I keep two tall laundry baskets in my closet and sort lights and darks as I go and then when one basket is full I carry it to the laundry room and sort into two loads -light weight and heavy weight. Great laundry room tips! Before I retired I owned a laundromat. We did laundry for customers, mostly men who worked in the "oil patch" of southern Alberta. Their clothes were really, really dirty. We always used cold water and OxiClean for their coveralls and it cleaned the most stubborn greasy stains. Sometimes we even lessened old stains that had been there for a few months (and plenty of dryers). OxiClean is awesome. I can't use bleach because of breathing problems. I use OxiClean and warm water for my whites... and my whites are brilliant. Also, you can fill a spray bottle with good detergent (Tide truly is best but blue Dawn dishwashing liquid works as well), and water and use that as a stain-spray (for whites add a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide). One thing that I suggest for "church clothes" and for socks... get some zippered, mesh bags (at the dollar store or Walmart). You will never lose a sock again to the "sock goblins" and your good clothes will not get ruined no matter how fancy they are. Just fold any sequins or glittery bits to the inside and zip the bag closed. The machines that are in this video are the best... not the brand, the style. Front loaders can't be overloaded. When they are full to the top of the door, they will still clean your clothes properly because the water doesn't just swish the clothes around, it actually is forced through the clothes and washes or rinses them completely. Also, there is fresh water running in and out of the machine throughout the process. Double rinsing works best if you have a machine that will do that since it is the soap that makes your clothes dingy. As for top loaders, they don't/can't clean as well because the water runs in and then the clothes get swished in the dirty water... and the rinse water will be dirty within a short time. Always double rinse if you can in a top loader machine. :)

Learned a few tips was really helpful! Will say however that I don’t get the whole “taking up all the soap” theory. I’ve really tried to find out what I’ve been doing wrong with my own laundry. I used to separate by color, but I tried simplifying my routine so I decided to stop separating...period. Well obviously the lights (colored) started looking dingy sooner than later, but also the materials themselves just looked crappy, even when washing all in cold. I used to blame the washer or brand of clothing, but my in laws all bought the same brands for their kids but theirs held up way better, I couldn’t figure out wth I keep doing wrong! Anyway it came down to this, the reason you should separate by texture (don’t leave out color but do separate the major different colors) is because the heavier items will A) take up more space B) beat up the lighter clothes. Also, check out your washers settings, they really do matter. I have an older style top loader and used to think they all had the same settings, but for average slightly dirty laundry it shouldn’t take more than a 6 min wash cycle (via Martha Stewart) and some settings are just more gentle on clothing whereas some were designed for VERY dirty things like greasy work denim. Jordan I’m glad you don’t have issues with clothes bleeding but I will say I have lots of brights that’ve seen better days colorwise just from my brief period of not separating colors. However just from separating denim which makes the water BLUE helps a ton.

You are so organized! I have 4 kids, they generate so much laundry, it is unreal. I gave up on sorting about a year ago and I swear I notice NO difference, the clothes are not wearing out any differently...nothing runs...I think we have been lied to! With a good washing machine I think we have to sort way less than we have been led to believe! I cram that washer pretty full with one load of whatever is dirty, wash on a high sanitize cycle, throw in some oxy clean with my detergent and do one full load a day so there is never any laundry build up...life changing.

I tried this method, unfortunately our light colored clothes developed a grayish tint from the darks. I think it’s just easier to separate by color and wash towels and sheets separately. Thanks to your video, I’m more mindful of size and texture now, so that has helped me separate our laundry for a better clean. Also, I only wash for two people, so I can’t begin to imagine how much work it would be for a family this size. Amazing how you approach all of your household tasks. Thanks for sharing.

I found putting a load of "light weight" darks separate from "light weight" lights kept my clothes bright. Plus wash brown/pink/red then blue/green/purple/gray separately is best. Yes light weight items need to be separate but that is how . you keep your stuff nice.

You're a good mom BECAUSE you make your kids fold their own laundry. My kids fold their own laundry. They don't always love it, but it's a life skill. Too many kids don't learn life skills before they leave for college. A friend of mine's kid just went to college and he was totally prepared. But his ROOMMATE...his mommy came and lived with him for a week to teach him how to grocery shop and do laundry and everything else an adult needs to know to LIVE. It's a disservice to do everything for our kids. They need to learn! Love your laundry hacks!!!

Jordan, Awesome video! One tip for you being so busy... you may already do this... Use the delay function on your washer to save time! I will sort all one day and wash/dry one load... subsequent loads I will load up before bed/before work, time them to finish just before i wake up/ just home from work. This way about 40mins to an hour later (time to dry) you are DONE BABY!! I especially do this for after work... time the washer to complete as I arrive home.. all I do is put it in the dryer. I can have it out of the way before dinner most days. For me one load a day keeps up easily. If you do more than that this will truly be a blessing to help get a jump on it. Many blessings & thanks again for all your great tips and tricks!

Our Pastor and friend has 10 kids! I remember when the kids were younger (most of them are grown now) the mom would go to the laundry mat once a week and wash, dry and fold all in one day using several washers and dryers, she amazed me. Also, when my 2 boys were near grown, then and my husband all wore the same socks, so I kept them separate by putting something on the bottoms of them with a sharpie, one had a smiley face, another had hearts, and so on, every time I bought a new pack of socks, I did this to the bottoms that wau, they each had their own. I would LOVE to have a laundry room like yours! Stunning. It sure would make washing clothes a pleasure lol

I totally agree with you on all points (I've done the exact same thing for years now). Only one suggestion: I stopped using dryer sheets a long time ago due to skin allergies (and they ruin the dryer, too) and I have never had an issue with static cling. Also stopped using fabric softener. I save a tonne of money and I haven't seen any difference so just wanted to share. Also, we bought a steamer for my husband's dress clothes (he has to wear suits every day to work). Best purchase ever. I couldn't stand the hours of ironing and now he steams it all himself and it's great. So please, everyone, spend the money on a full size steamer. It's worth it!

I love it!! Is it normal to get so much joy from watching cleaning and home org vids?! I'm (whispers) 39 and this has only JUST become a thing for me!! I applaud that you get the kids involved. In Nigeria, kids get "morning duty" which means they usually do some cleaning before school. But I grew up in London so my mum didn't insist on this. Unfortunately, laziness became a huge struggle as an adult - a legit liability, always having a "tired" mindset where everything seems hard or too longwinded. In contrast, a younger friend of mine, who's a nurse, manages to get so much done before I've even started thinking about it and she can keep going long after I'm ready to call it a day, and all that on top of working crazy long nurse shifts. So I think starting younger is definitely an advantage and something that your kids (and their future spouses) will thank you for. Is all I'm sayin' :)

Dryer sheets and liquid fabric softener are not needed if you use distilled white vinegar in the fabric softener section of the dispenser drawer of the washer. Vinegar gets rid of the excess detergent that builds up and "hardens" fabrics, i.e. it is a natural fabric softener and odor cleanser.

She also doesn’t judge anyone for doing things differently, she’s just sharing tips that work for her. And yes, she is frugal. She does things such as spending freezes and shelf-cooking in order to save money so that she can spend that money on other things for her family. That’s how her and her husband were able to pay off their debt and build the life they wanted for themselves. She’s allowed to talk about saving and budgeting and still treat herself with her own hard-earned money.

By the time our kids are out of elementary school, they're fully in charge of their own laundry. We sort differently than you do. Each person has their own hamper and basket in their room. Laundry gets washed according to who wears it. This started because the oldest 2 kids are 15 months apart and were the same size, resulting in clothing acquisition by the sibling. It solved one of the fights they always had. We have a "blessing basket" for the culling process. They outgrow it, don't like it, etc and they just drop it off in there for me to either store for another sibling, or to send off to a friend in our clothing stockpile rotation (some of it comes back to us for a much younger kiddo), or to the donation pile if it is a viable donation item.

My children do their own laundry. So this is a pretty cool system for them to try. Thank you!

Super fun and great tips! The greatest mistake I made as a mom was not teaching my kids how to do laundry as soon as they could reach the controls! Your system is awesome and so is your laundry room! Dayyum!!

My mom had me doing laundry as soon as I was tall enough to hit the buttons! Lol and before that she always had me “help” her so I would learn.

Yeah...if they can work a computer, laundry & washers should be a no brainer.

@@grey-vb7ox I had a step stool so I could reach the buttons. I would sit on the dryer to load it. I remember loving to do sheets and blankets. I loved how they wound around the agitator!

The ocd in me says fold those clothes right out of the dryer to prevent wrinkles.

I had a pal in college that folded his wet clothes as he moved them into the dryer from the washer. Ahhh, memories.

@@samikasinghel9978 yeah, really. I don't know if he'd never seen anyone do laundry or was obsessed with double checking for stains or what, but he seemed genuinely surprised that not everyone did it that way.

I LIKE YOUR SORTING METHOD, I WILL TRY THIS. SHOUT I FIND LEAVES STAINS IN SO I SWITCHED TO GRANDMAS SECRET SPOT REMOVER AND LAUNDRY SPRAY ( NOT A SPONSOR, JUST A PERSON) YOU CAN BUY AT WALMART FOR MUCH CHEAPER THAN SHOUT, BEING ORGANIC IN COMPOUND IT TOOK SPOTS OUT THAT SHOUT WOULD NOT (SHOUT IS PETROLEUM BASED). ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO AND YOUR ENERGY!

I just discovered Jordan! Funny thing is I was watching a previous video at 1.75 speed. You have never seen Jordan so animated! Love the laundry room I never had that luxury. I have 8 kids and it's so nice they all do their own laundry and even my husband does most of his! I do laundry like only 2 days a week and not all day! You will get there Jordan!
