I love your neat lecture notes! I literally watch your first video NONSTOP just because of how neat it is and I think it’s the best iPad notes ever. Even though I’m not in University yet, this really motivates me for back to school next month and just studying, note taking, and education in general.. about to go to middle school.. 😅 It really makes me look forward to getting an iPad 2018 9.7 inch and taking it to school for notes. what would you do with notes from textbook readings? i'm not sure if it'd be better to create a separate notebook for them or just put all of my notes together in my review notes. Opinions?

I think making annotations or writing on Powerpoints is a passive way of being an active learner or good at studying. Because when you're following along in class you're passively making comments, or annotations as you follow along with the lecture. Instead, I only stick with my way of note-taking which is the outline method. Instead of writing on the powerpoints I would preview the powerpoints like a textbook, and write the topic, subtopics, keep my notes short and legible in bullet points, including concepts such as examples, definitions or what includes more about the sub-topic. And last I include any important information by drawing asterisks to show what is majorly important. For reviewing and studying I only use notes as a reference or to refer back. While studying I would use active reading strategies that only works best for me. Like creating a different version of my notes which is the mind map or I create a practice test or look up a practice test. This allows the student to recall without looking at the sources to help with recall. And since you did a video on making flashcards I'm planning on using your fill in the blank method to study actively, and not like students who use a passive yet outdated version of studying your flashcards. I'm hoping it will work for me because I've been interested in writing prompts so your method of making flash cards is genius.

Your handwriting is beautiful even in class. I think I saw Notability icon in the productivity folder in the first screenshot. If so, would you give us a comparison between Goodnotes 4 and Notability?

Thank you! And yes - Notability was the first note-taking app I used when I got my iPad. I bought Goodnotes shortly after and I much prefer Goodnotes now. I can totally do a comparison video :)

It is enough for me because I already have a Macbook to carry my pdf textbooks and whatnot. I offload applications that I don't use which saves more memory as well. I'm not even close to using half of the storage and I have been using the iPad since the beginning of this semester!

I have an iPad 2018 and Apple Pencil and I love to take notes on it with Notability, but my notes are not that neat. At the same time I am afraid to spend too much time on writing them down at home. I spend about 1-3 hours doing these review notes but I retain so much information when I do them. I tried Notability before and found that my writing is actually much neater and smoother in Goodnotes! Don't be afraid to spend that much time! Doing anything that helps you understand the information better is not a waste of time :) Thanks for watching!!

But the way, I like notability but I never tried Goodnotes, maybe Sooner or later I’ll buy it! Catherine Tran I think she does it the same way depending if it’s an online textbook or physical textbook. The most efficient way to get the most out of your textbook reading assignments is read backwards, so read the summary, sample question, look for key concepts, key words, and whatever you find when you read backwards. Some might not have sample questions or a summary. Also the introduction should come last when you read backwards, and find an outline of the chapters you’ll be doing and write an outline like checklist. That will allow you to keep track of your reading assignments and focus you’ve already learned. Previewing, reading the chapters, using active reading strategies or take notes separately on a piece of paper to organize your notes for the chapter. Also make sure to find ways to review your notes. Because sometimes reading notes is not enough to retain information. So depending on the class you might wanna go over things you don’t understand versus you understand. It’s like you want to forget what you know so your can focus what you don’t know. Especially checking for your understanding is important.

Syahirah Husna Didn’t she mention in one of her videos about the amount of storage of her iPad? It’s 32 GB since she doesn’t download as much apps, but for academic usage she uses Google Drive for storing everything related to her academics.

she saves her goodnotes on her google drive and then opens them up on her laptop, exporting as pdfs would take up a lot of space really fast

Download the PowerPoint and when doing that it should give you the option on where you would like the file to go, you should get an option for GoodNotes and then click on that and the slides will open up in GoodNotes

I personally find that I enjoy the writing experience on Goodnotes more; I write more smoothly and neatly compared to Notability. I also like having a wider variety of colours to choose from with the pen and highlighter, which is limited in Notability. Also, for choosing the brush sizes, Goodnotes allows you to pretty much set any size you want with the sliding tool which Notability doesn't have. So Goodnotes is definitely a winner!

The easiest way I have found to do this on GoodNotes is to create a PDF file of your PowerPoint through a laptop. Click on File->Export->Create PDF->Options. Then change Publish Options to Handouts and you can choose how many slides you want per page. At the end make sure you “Publish” to google drive or whichever drive you use. Then you can import your pdf file on GoodNotes. Not sure if this works on Notability. Seems like a lot but it’s pretty quick. Hope this helps!

I actually found out something that could be helpful for taking notes or anything that you’re missing. After annotating or taking notes on the powerpoints. Turn the PowerPoint either on slides or Microsoft PowerPoint, and go to layout, and find outline. When you do that should allow you to pay attention to what you must include in your notes, and when you have all that down. Then write your notes in your own words. I should’ve done this for the reviewing. I was confused how you review your notes. Because I did many research and found out that reading, highlighting, and summarizing is not enough to remember information for a long time. So probably the way how you did is the old video you did on flash cards, yet it’s in your way of studying which got you high 90’s and A+. So I assume that’s how you reviewed your notes.

I haven't tried out the iPad Pro but I personally have not noticed any problems or frustrations with the iPad 2018 when using the Apple Pencil!

You can print them out and store them in an arc discbound notebook! :) RU-vidr September Studies has a video on this and it looks really nice! Its perfect if u know that staring at a screen will give you headaches or eye strain

Kristinka Waldorf It’s her preference? Duh. People has preference of writing their notes or making annotations either digitally or on paper doesn’t matter. For me I prefer using GoodNotes 5 on my iPad and I don’t have have problem writing on paper.
