How I Drill, Sand and Polish resin using a Dremel

I have made this video after several requests asking how I drill holes in resin to add hooks etc. I have also shown how easy it is to sand sharp edges and remove bubbles and blemishes from resin as well as using the polishing wheel. Once this is done it is easy to re-coat the piece with another clear coat of resin. This will then give you a nice smooth blemish free piece of work. Using the Dremel 4000, or a similar tool is very easy and ideal for the resin beginner. The drill and the sanding cuts through the resin like a hot knife through butter, so go gently with a light touch . Please ensure that anytime you are sanding, drilling or polishing resin that you have a suitable MASK on to prevent you from breathing in the fine resin particles, as these can be bad for your health and lungs. I hope that you find this video useful, please let me know in the comments for this video if you have any tips or tricks you would like to share for polishing drilling or sanding.

Thanks for your videos!! Hope your doing well with them. I have the exact setup you have with the Dremel. However I tried to polish one of my pieces with my Dremel and it didn’t turn out to well. I started with 80 grit on an electric sander and went all the way to 2000 grit. Anything over the 80 grit was sanded by hand of course. And I am very skilled at sanding as I use to fix vehicle dents. I have seen people go all the way up to 7000 grit paper on RU-vid. I have just begun and haven’t yet learned just how high I need to go with the paper grit to get a glass finish. Anyway I went up to 2000 grit and then polished my piece with Turtle Wax. Not good enough. It was still foggy. I then used tooth paste and rubbed it by hand. It was a huge improvement. It seems as though tooth paste just might be one of the best things out there to put the finishing shine on your a-opoxy resin masterpiece. I did see a video that was talking about what polish to use for the final touch. If I understood it correctly you need a polish that has the abrasion properties of 10,000 grit. I have looked at a couple polishes, one being The Turtle Wax, but have yet to be successful in finding what you might call an abrasive grit rating. Thanks again for all your great videos and the fact that you actually read the comments. I learned quite a bit watching your videos and I hope that maybe my information helps you in some way and anyone else who reads this comment. Anyone feel free to ask what you will. I will gladly help if possible just like the good gentleman who made this video for us. GOD bless to everyone!!.. :))........

That was a great video. I have a question regarding fixing spots where the resin didn't completely distribute in the pour -- like on the edges or around the little post in molds for jewelry. It leaves a small hole where resin should have been. Or on a corner, it isn't full. It is always at the base of the mold. If I sand it, it is going to change the shape. Don't know if you have a suggestion for it or not. But I LOVE your channel!!!

I have had the idea of attaching finer grits onto my dremel and large sander, as well. I tried it on the sander with no luck. It was too powerful and threw the attached paper right off. What glue do you use to attach to your dremel? So funny the things we come up with. Maybe we should partner up and manufacture some dremel bits for artists together. Lol! Thanks for the help. Love the channel.
