How I fix LG LED TV's for FREE just using HOT AIR. LG 42LE5400 no picture repair.

We have a LG 42 inch LED TV model 42le5400 that does not have the "Backlight ON" voltage needed to power up the led driver for the televisions backlight. Whenever an LED television is powered on; it needs 2 important Main board voltages/signals going to the Power Supply Board. The first is the "Power Supply ON" or "PS ON" voltage to turn on the voltage rails on the power supply, and the second in the "Backlight ON" or "BL ON" to turn on the LED driver circuit for the TV's backlights.
On many older model LG led televisions if you are missing the BL ON/DRV ON voltage, then the TV will come on with a totally black screen and no sound. In many cases all you have to do is heat up the microprocessor IC on the Main board because it has bad solder connections underneath the IC.

I had to reflow the main chip on the main board but it only last about a week then went out again and the main board was hard to find or it was expensive

Thats why I usually push down on the IC once in a while during your reflowing. Sometimes that helps.

So good so far, I done many. Just use something to carefully push down on the Ic while heating it up.

Hello, I have a 50" Vizio model m50-c1. black screen when i turned on, already replace main board, power supply board, t-con, led driver board and couple of cables from power board to led driver board and main board. I do not know what else to do. I dont see any backlight on....any thoughts?

@@carlosdelosreyes258 if you go onto you tube and type in backlight faults that will explain how to test and or how to repair. If you are any good at DIY then you should be able to repair backlights. Although you will need to be extremely careful when moving the TV screen.Good luck.

I got a 47 inch LG and when I turn it on the screen comes on but only stays on briefly and then goes black. I can’t see anything when I put a flashlight to it but you can still tell that the screen is just slightly lit up. What could be causing this? It’s weird because when I first turn it on the screen comes on and shows the LG logo and everything looks good then it just craps out. I just recently started tinkering with it again, I had it put up for about a year and I pulled it out and plugged it in and it worked for about 40 minutes before it went black again.

This reminds me of the BGA solder failure on the old XBox 360s, but no reflowing of the solder would fix the problem since they used a lead free solder and opted for the cold solder method. The old Red Ring of Death for the 360s. The permanent fix was a kit that used lead solder. Each fix was around $100 at the time. Not sure what it would be now. Would the faulty solder joints on this TV be considered a manufacturing defect or just normal wear from heating and cooling the solder? Nice repair!!

A new main board would have fixed it as well but this way cost nothing!

Bake the main on cookie sheet for 25 min at 350 degrees let kool down for half hour n oven door open the hot air gun temp fix and will go out again

Do also Repair CRT's. I have 2 Pansonic DT-2730MS that work, but would like to be recaped, I am in Cook County. Do you offer that? I saw on your site that you do CRT Repairs also.

Only one, thats why you have to apply pressure on the IC when reflowing.

Re-flow the solder connections on the IC. Sometimes some of the solder joints are "Iffy" and you might have poor conductivity between the lead and the board circuitry..

Did you go to class on this fix? Seems like this would not be a common problem, unless a service bulletin came out on this.

Subbed, good videos! I got a tcl 75s423 picture and sound no backlight. Already took it apart but I got no led tester, tried to test each led individually with 3v but I think each led needs more voltage to light up. Do you know what safe voltage I can test each led with? Each strip showed 135v for 7 led strip.

Hi, why not buy yourself a LED tester from Ali International etc. cheap enough to buy although you may have to wait up to five weeks. You can test a strip of backlights with a 12 volt dc battery supply or as stated using 3 volts dc. If all the strips work then it might be that you might have to re solder the ends of the backlight strips. If you have a volt meter set to dc volts you could check the voltage of the backlight feed if you have the expertise, confidence and taking into account the electrical safety precautions needed. @@brianjames6890 yeah I bought a led tester from Amazon, all leds are brown 6v leds that are below from 4.2v to 5.7v. Have a lical friend who repairs TV's so he let me have the leds out of a 65 inch lg tv, I am remodeling the backlight strip setup to work. Leds are 6v but since more leds 96 instead of 84 leds so not 125v for 21 leds but 150 for 24 leds but diveded they are using 6.25v instead of 6v is that bad?

@@bigdog8882 I have a similar HIsense TV here and the power is cycling, I can see the picture with a flashlight briefly. The backlights never came on. The voltage would go to 30vdc initially then shut down, go to 12vdc and start cycling on the backlight circuit. Did a power test on the LED array (no lights), and continuity check on the "cheap" :-) 2 wire feed for the LED backlights. Got an open. Time to pull the screen apart. Thanks again for all your informative content.
