The head of my Vigoro bow rake broke off and the 25 warranty is no longer valid because Home Depot no longer carries the product. I remove the damaged wood, hollow out the rake head space and cut some slits in the wood so the wood will flex and tightly grip the metal rake head. Added a couple pipe/hose clamps and it's a good as new.

This item has a 25 year guarantee and it broke in two years?!? Your ability to repair it is beside the point. It doesn't matter if Home Depot no longer sells an actual Vigoro-branded rake or not, because that's just a name that they slap on certain products. My advice would have been to go to any Home Depot and talk to the store manager to explain your predicament and demand that they replace the rake with one of equal or better quality. Be careful of what might be offered in return, though. I once returned a Sears Craftsman lifetime-guaranteed branch lopper and they offered a replacement with the same part number. However, upon inspection, it was clear that Sears had swapped the original design with a lower-quality design consisting of plastic parts, poor workmanship, etc. When I pointed this out to the manager, she agreed with my concerns and offered the higher-priced model whose materials and workmanship matched up better with the one I was returning.

My one year old bow rake head fell out. It's just pressure fitted in there i think. I kept it leaned against the house under an eave, so barely got rained on and only had morning sun. I bet if you kept it in the house tucked into silk sheets even, and only brought it out for work, it would only last six years.

Seems contradictory to cut off the split ends and then split the solid wood. I run a screw through the wood into the looped metal end and add a metal reinforcement from the head to the handle to prevent pull out. Served me well.

Great idea. I like it!! The original split ends were thin and weak, that's why I cut them off.

I can't watch people holding things and drilling them. It's terrifying. Get a vise already.
