My snakeplants have developed some root rot and MOLD after I overwatered them, watch how I solve this common sansevieria plant issue

Today I tackle one of the biggest issues you might face if you are taking care of snake plants: Root Rot. Normal snake plants (sansevieria) are typically easy to take care of and are often recommended as house plants for their easy care, air filtering benefits, and ability to live in low light conditions. However, if you find yourself in a situation where your snake plant is dying, there could be a few causes that can leave you wondering how you've killed the 'easiest plant ever'. Well, in my case after I was given advice that overwatered my plant, bacteria started growing in my soil which called for an entire repotting and new soil situation. Hangout with me today while I diagnose my three largest snake plants and replace their pots and soil.

Pro tip: any time your triming a plant, clean the scissors or shears with rubbing alcohol so you don't transfer any mold/bacteria/spores to the other plants. even if the plant appears to be healthy. just a pro tip for next time you wanna repot any plant. (I only know this because I used to work and tend to gardens in the park when I was a teen)

I got a snake plant three months into quarantine. It was an office plant that hadn’t gotten water for months. They thought it was dead. I thought it was dead. But it came back and is doing so well I”m so proud

Try watering them less in winter. Cause they get less sun and stuff. And extra perlite and orchid bark to the mix also helps me out a lot! Love your videos!!!

Put a bunch of rocks or broken pieces of terra cotta in the bottom of your pots. Don’t put the rotting ones in with the healthy ones. You rock 🐦🐦🐦💕💕 plastic pots aren’t good. Use terra cotta. ☮️☮️☮️💃🏻💃🏻

Well draining soil, adding perlite helps. Smallest pot, they like to be crowded.let dry out between waterings. Avoid getting water between leaves. Careful with fertilizer.
@thatleafy_life
@thatleafy_life 3 года назад
good growers will have the plant in a loamy well draining soil and they can stay happy in the grow pot for a long time, just watered a trifaciatia today, had been close to a month since i watered it, err on the side of not watering, they will get wrinkled if really thirsty and that takes a long long time.

That soil is terrible, no wonder you had problems! i like costa farms stuff, the soil seems great and healthy plants. You can add more water to the jar. Ive had some in a jar for many months, a baby sprouted, no problem with being submerged. Planterina gives great plant advice

Plants! I love seeing your plants and how you care for them. Last year I had to leave two of my most beloved plants (African violets) in another state (might get to see them this summer if they survived ahhh) but before I left I took cuttings and all but one did not take. It's been in dirt for months and finally a little tiny baby has sprouted! Im soo hype about it lol

This was great! But please help! What do I do with the mother plant that had all roots off? I just repotted it actually with the same mix you have, was trying to propagated a leaf and discovers the mother plant’s roots rotted off completely… mother plant only has two leaves. Original plant came out of a mixed pot of multiple varieties. This was my grandmother’s plant. I would dearly love to save it.

I rescued my snake plant from the back of a goodwill. It had root rot but not to the extent that yours is. Put it in new soil and hardly ever water it. Sadly I had one if the pots outside while it was cold and some of the tips went bad. I’m propagating those bad leaves. But yeah. Only water when the soil is bone dry.

You can clean your soil with hydrogen peroxide and water mixture! 1 part peroxide to 2 parts water and saturate the soil and then let it dry out completely before you reuse it. It also kills fungus gnat larvae if you have any problems with gnats.

All Sansevieria varieties don't tolerate temp lower then 10* Celsius and should be watered only when completely dried off, plus day later. Low light long term is one way street. All those long leaves won't just regrow roots and go on ,cut them in 2 inches pieces, calouse and pot them bottomside, one piece-one new plant. Light moist, plenty sunlight.
