It is misleading...except, I think the answer is: you get in by applying. I think it is trying to encourage students to APPLY, because you can't get in without applying.
It is misleading, but I think unintentionally so. I think by "how I" they meant "the moment I" got in. Basically it is "how" they first came in contact with getting into MIT.
That last statement was absolutely on point. Going to a great school is not about getting a good education, because these days you can get a good education from home or your local public university. At a school like MIT you have access to world renowned professors, leaders in their fields, and an awesome group of colleagues to spend 4 years with.
I'll answer it. I got in by doing what I loved and proactively seeking out opportunities. Sure you need to have good grades, but everyone knows that isn't enough. The key is to show you are the best at what you do... whether that be writing or robotics. Pure effort and dedication most certainly comes through in the application, particularly because of the additional portfolios they provide. Do what you love and be the best at it you can possibly be.
It's because they don't really know. The only way to know is to be in the room with the admissions team that makes that decision. If Harvard is any model, then I'm sure you would be shocked to discover how subjective it really is. Hopefully, MIT doesn't follow that model.
I got in with only 1320 SAT (740 math 580 verbal it was called at the time), 3.8 GPA (top 10% but not valedictorian), small town no-name public school, white male, hardly any extracurriculars, no sports, BUT I did get an 'A' at a local university where I took Calculus my senior year, and an 'A' at Harvard Summer School my junior year for intro to computer science. I think that helped (showed I was prepared for college level material), plus I had started a computer supplies and repair business that was doing pretty well. They were and maybe still are really big on entrepreneurship (most my friends from there have gone on to create multiple major startups). Just shows you don't have to be an absolute genius to get in, they're looking for people with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. BUT be prepared to work hard/play hard. Fast classes (few people ever have questions, they just understand everything) and 4-6 hours of homework every weeknight. It's intense but wow the prestige it carries on your resume. I got job offers at every job I ever applied to.
Amazing feats! I’m thinking of doing some research papers and drawings to submit in my application for the architecture major. Going to dual enroll in the summer to boost my gpa and let’s hope for the best 🤞🏼
MIT is my dream school since I was a sophmore. I never thought I would be able to apply. Now watching this exactly one week prior of the pi day :) Will add an edit to the comment no matter what the decision is.
Cassthebrave Im currently studying computer science in MIT. If you want to apply here make sure you watch some YesRenau videos on RU-vid she really inspired me to focus a lot more than anything on school make sure you're good at all kinds of math and be sure to convince them to accept you into MIT they are looking for real effort, so good luck to you.
Please do not falter in your dreams, worst indecision you will ever commit. Instead double your efforts when it gets tough or it gets boring, have in mind that day when you receive that acceptance letter!
My MIT acceptance seemed to be dependent on what the review board believed i would be bringing to MIT. I achieved an overall 1587 on the SAT and submitted what i consider one of my top 2 essays ever written in my life. However, the interview is what got me in. I excel in astrophysics and took a model and my published work of my theory on higher life as it pertains to the continued development of the multiverse in relation to supermassive black holes and beyond. It's my theory which requires a very open mind but the review board was very impressed and needless to say is what got me in. Remember originality, creativity, and intelligence will get you in guys.
How do you know it’s the interview that got you in? Did MIT Admissions tell you? As far as MIT Admissions tells everyone, they do a holistic review of everyone’s applications, meaning that no one will be accepted just because of an individual thing. It’s great you published a theory, but I just wanted to stress holistic admissions here, and that you and no one else can really know why you were accepted.
@@amritasingh5779 Unfortunately I did not end up getting into any of my dream schools, right now I am an undergraduate at NYIT, but I still have hopes to study at MIT someday 😁
I got a national scholarship from an Italian Telecommunications Company Italtel and I could start my Master of Science Management at MIT Sloan School in 1990. A dream. When I graduated in 1992 and it seemed to me such a short time.
The key is to demonstrate “intellectual maturity”. Do things on your free time that show that you are passionate about learning. Yes you need to have very good to great grades and test scores but those in themselves won’t get you in. Lastly, in order to prove that you are who you are, you need good recommendation letters. So plan on finding projects where you can be mentored so that that person can champion you.
I GOT MIT IN JUST 7 MONTHS HEHEHEHEH,,,,,,,,,,,I WAS PREPARING TO JEE ADVANCE FOR IIT BOMBAY. BUT THEN IN LAST 6-7 MONTHS I STARTED PREPARING FOR SAT AND I WAS ALSO DOING JEE THEN I GOT 97 PERCENT IN JEE + I WROTE ESSAY AND ALL GAVE INTERVIEW AND GOT SELECTED//////////////// NOW IM DOING COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENG.
I am in 8th grade, and I am so worried Since 7th grade MIT is my dream and even tough I am not even in High School and I didn’t apply (well obviously) I am so worried about it
I got the acceptance letter in 1991, I was 15 still. ;). I used it to leverage some benefits at home and with the family. Lol Still have the letter. Events happened that led me away from engineering and into Dental Medicine. Pretty happy with the result.
ray mcknight Passion and Motivation is the best Dedication. If you have both, you will absolutely make it in because its something you will work for, not something you hope to get. We will see though.
Cn anyone answer me i wanna pursue b.arch frm mit ...but m not able to get it ...as a intrntl student we hv to write sat or act but these two exms are for enginering not for acrch ...plz smeone guide me for dis
I have been dreaming of entering MIT since i was 11 right now i’m on my 2nd year of high school, i have straight A’s and. 4.0 GPA (no AP yet) any advice?
I have an RCA tablet. What I need is a camera. When I take photos with the tablet it's shaky. It would be nice to have a camera that matches my tablet. I don't use those cards. U just plug in the camera and download . Things I would say to MIT.
Being able to study at MIT would be dream, but I'm from Europe, I already have a job.... I would need an opportunity for a 1-2 years degree in something related to IT that is funded and I guess, there is nothing like that.... If it never happens, I still have edX :)
Hey mate, college isn't everything, I have graduated 3 years now and had a shitty job. I am starting to learn code by myself and looking forward to getting a degree somehow. And searched for the Mit in RU-vid just for fun sake and image something beautiful:)
I'm currently 12- surprising? sure. But believe me when I say that one day I will get into the Massachussets Institute of Technology, even though I'm an International Student. All I can do for now is- work. I just started focusing on programming and I put in anywhere from 2-9 hours on a daily basis. Wish me luck! #MIT'25 #IAmComing
The problem with MIT admissions... isn't the low acceptance rate, it's the fact that almost everyone who applies deserves to go there and is fully capable of getting in. It's completely out of your hands whether the cookie crumbles in your favour or not.
I have an act score of 23, I have an act math score of 33, IELTS score of 7.5, I attended the robotics course, I am currently in the process of establishing a company, my gpa grade is 2.6, I love maths and software. do you think I will be accepted?
Hello mate. I really appreciate your effort and the hard work you'd have put in to get in. I really need to get in touch with highly disciplined people like you. Is there any way by which we can talk, like can I get your Instagram please?
I do wanna feel that feeling too. If I could get into, I will take a video too. Would you like to get a video from me, MIT Admission Office? If yes, I hope, just accept me, than I will :)
@Jahongir Rakhimjonov Search his name on Google. His name is Drew Houston, just do the same as I said earlier above, then you will see that the same person is on here. And you can also find his education that he completed at MIT [Massachusetts Institute of Technology]
