**Passing Security+ is stoopid EASY, here is what I did and materials used links at end **disclaimer: have not worked in 3yrs, but b4 that 3yrs of helpdesk/desktop work experience #1 - Watch Messers or Dion's Sec+ videos as material introduction, don't worry about taking notes #2 - Now read thru Gibsons Sec+ GCGA book, material should now make some sense, take notes as needed, take chapt. review quiz's to confirm material learned #3 - Memorize ports 21, 22, 80, 443, and whether udp or tcp for each #4 - Know basic firewall setup rules like how to allow/deny traffic based on ports(see #3) #5 - Print out CompTIA Exam objectives, this is exactly what will be on the test, anything thing that you can't explain, review and brush up on it. #6 - FINAL REVIEW, go thru Gibsons book again but only reading the REMEMEBER THIS sections of each chapter and the end of chapter summaries. #7 - TAKE Exam - The Exam consists of 75+ questions. The first 3-5 questions on the exam are PBQ questions(simulations) so SKIP THEM by flagging for review. You want to do em LAST since they can take alot of time to do and you don't wanna run out of time for the remaining 75 m/c questions. So go thru the multiple choice first and then the PBQ's. Always chose and answer and if your unsure of the question, flag it so you can return to it if you have time. Its better to at least guess then to leave it blank this way if you run out of time, there is at least a 25% chance you can get a point v/s 0 points if you leave it blank. #8 - PROFIT, sheeeeeeit, maybe even send me a buck or 2 so I can buy me an apple or orange for lunch.. -Materials Used- Book: Darrril Gibson's Get Certified Get Ahead book, $33 on Amz: www.amazon.com/CompTIA-Security-Get-Certified-Ahead/dp/1939136059/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=darril+gibson&qid=1606372281&sr=8-2 Video learning: Professor Messer's FREE video Sec+ course on RU-vid or Jason Dion's Sec+ course on Udemy $13 or less. - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UbxRf_9Rcmg.html - www.udemy.com/course/securityplus/ Practice Exams - Dion offers 6 for $13 on Udemy, if you score 80%+ on those your in a good spot. Professor Messer really is a fantastic resource. His video course and notes where the backbone of me passing the Network + certification. I'm about to start studying for the Security +.
@@jacobylujan4 Yes, I went in pretty confident, scored very highly on all the Professor Messer practice exams no issue. But the actual exam was on another level. I was absolutely convinced I'd failed. Was amazed when it turned out I'd passed.
You mentioned dark net diaries and I gave you a like just from that. I have been listening to that podcast now for over a year. Got my A+, network+, and working on security+ now.
Haha exactly my thoughts as well. Just label the video “How I obtained my security plus in two weeks” so that way you don’t sound like you’re full of shit and will give your video some credibility instead of doing the opposite.
Tough to read 50 pages a day so it will more likely be a month or two for me. Sad thing is, I Aced everything in collage, and went on like a 6 month "vacation" from IT after school (understandably tired working full time and full time school) and I failed it by 4%. So it is more so consistency and dedication to just put aside that time to challenge your brain in those areas you struggle. The test gives you those areas as well if you fail, for me it was mostly the acronyms that got me. IT is full of them, not just security,
Failed the first time with a 729/900. I used Prof. Messer and Jason Dion but trying to find new resources since I also have my next test in less than 2 weeks as well. Hopefully, I pass this time.
i use both those resources too, going for my test next week im so scared. Do you think dion and messer is enough? i used all dions vids and prac test and also messer just for his test. Im worried they wont be enough. Or do you think they covered everyhting but you wernt prepared enough?
@@rkb3991 Passed! I also used the comptia sec+ study prep app. Was getting about 70-85% on dion test and about 75 on messer. Just practiced constantly leading up to exam day
@@lachlanharris7178 cool I’m gunna buy the notes and practice test hopefully it’s enough bro also when you bought his test how did it work like u get it digital?
Correct me if I'm mistaken. The math doesn't add up. You said you passed such a hard exam in 2 weeks by reading book 4 times, 50 pages a day. The book has 600 pages plus multiple exams throughout the book over 300 questions. So to read book once you need 12 days. 4 times to read the book would be 7 weeks not 2 weeks. Plus everything else??
Sec+ book I read was only 400pages... just grabbed it from the book pile next to me... during re-reads extra emphasis on places of struggle and skipping places I had a strong grasp in. So probably not a full read each time... my current place of employment only gave me two weeks to pass... which is why I know exactly how long it took me lol.
@@MichaelImo That is crazy they gave you only 2 weeks to pass. Sec+ is monster test. There is people who failed multiple times like 5 times before they passed. Zack from yt channel IT career questions was working 16 years in IT including 3 years in security and he failed first time. I'm preparing for sec+ for 5 months now 3 hours a day and still not ready. Is that bad sign? What is salary I can expect once I get that cert?
Mike. I am new to this field, so im starting with my A+ Certification. I have Professor Messer's notes, however, are there any other tools you would recommend like; videos, books, etc. My objective is to eventually go into Cyber Security, although I have taken an interest in security alone. What are your thoughts and recommendations?
I keep seeing people post security+ in 2weeks. Hope that doesn't mean it sucks on a resume. I already understand linux, kali, metasploit, networking, all the attack vectors, just not the bureaucratic stuff
Thank you so much for the study resources! I am starting to study to get my certification soon. When did you schedule your exam? Did you force yourself to study in 2 weeks or was that just when you felt like you were prepared enough to take it? Thanks again!!
Thanks for the video. I plan to study for my Security+ exam someday in the future myself but right now I'm study for another certification first. Anyways in the video you used the term syllabus but instead I think Comptia calls their syllabus, objectives. My question for you though is, can you take some Boson Practice Exams based on one Comptia objective at a time, or are all their practice exams based on all the Comptia objectives at once? And again if you are reading this thanks again for the video.
I have zero job experience but iv done plenty of things under the table for various clients in studying for my security plus I found that most of the material is stuff I already understand but didn't know the official terminology for. Iv been taking practice tests and haven't failed one yet. I can get some pretty influential letters of recommendation from various sources so my question is this. Having no verified experience other than rec letters and a security plus as my first cert how hard is my job search going to be in today's climate?
I went back to college as an adult last Fall for I.T. Part of the tuition was exam vouchers. So, the Sec+ one expires in late February. I have what I learned from class, purchased thee Sec+ study guides, and three Udemy courses(Dion, Myers, & Tech Institute). Is that enough time and material for me to pass(slightly less now than two months)
Hi Mike, thank you so much for your info, I would like to ask your advice, I don't have experience in IT filed at all, I got associate degree in Cyber Security, I possessed CCNA certificate, should I study for Security Plus cert? I appreciate of your reply.
Yes, you should pursue the cert, you have enough background. You don't need experience to pass it, you just need to understand the technology. And you do, since you have CCNA. Good luck ! :-)
From my experience of recently taking the security+ exam and also using dions 601 course was that although it helped, you’ll need another source to cover some of the things he misses. I too, started with dions courses and then bought the practice exams. After finishing them I moved on too professor messers course and I found his notes and practice exams were closer to the actual exam. Especially with the PBQ.
I took the Security+ class in college (very recently and as part of my AAS degree in Cybersecurity) and as well have been studying Professor Messer's videos as well as paid for 6 practice exams on Udemy and have been getting 70-85% on them. Do you feel like I should be studying anything else?
Mike the Web Surfer Hey dude, Passed the security+ exam yesterday!!! After I watched your video I decided to buy the Boson practice exams, and they helped immensely! Thank you!
Andrew Lythgoe I did watch this video in full and I love it. Very great info. How do you feel about the study materials mentioned here. Did you use the same? Anything different?
Mike the Web Surfer Hello, I have a CompTIA Security+ certification and have a current active SECRET clearance as I'm currently still enlisted in the Army active. However, I have downtime to work additional job for extra money. Do evening or overnight entry level security+ jobs exist? What's my options sir? I am approximately 4 courses away from an Associate's in IT.
To be honest any one who is able to memorize lots of things can pass this test , the second part about passing the exam in two weeks that is just a memory dump and you have no idea for example how any of the hardware and software tools or other concepts mentionned on the exam objectives actually work, so that paper you paid dearly is worthless and given a job you would be a sitting duck, there is a reason they recommend a numbers of years.
When you say two weeks, are you still working full time? Or spending a two full weeks studying? I am working full time and find it very hard to find time to study. I maybe get 3-4 hours a week.
You will need to know all popular hacks, SQL injections, xss, wireshark, nmap, routing and internal network setup on a more advanced level because a lot of programs like DNS spoof require an understanding of larger networks

Yes, I do think its possible to pass with no work experience, but it depends on what sort of experience you do have.. I had passed a previous networking exam (ccna), I've also loved computers before this despite never holding an IT job. So adjust your expectations based on where your at.
Yup, its possible, but it depends on how much time you have, and how involved you were with computer before hand. A lot of concepts I knew because I did research in my daily life before.
Yes. And No. But mostly yes. Some people got only sec+ and get 75K job. Some get 40K, not bad. Some can't get any job for more than a year with multi certa. It's all about how you present and sell yourself and especially WHO do you know. In that case you may not even need a cert.
Hi Mike. I am in a career change process and Cyber Security is the field I am interested in. I have read Darryl Gibson book and am reading it again. Thank you for this video.
It....ya its really fallen apart. A + Sec + Net + Are not worth getting. I would start with ccna and move up. Then move on to IT proj management. Itil and scrum master. Once there get out of tech into a pure management role. Once you hit 39 you won't get hired for tech work unless at the top 5%.
