Oh, my dear, I have many of the same problems you described, and I am Caucasian. I have always heard that if you want to learn about hair care, consult a Black woman, because she will know the best ways to deal with fine or fragile hair. Everything you said in this video is true, and while I do not deep condition, I just might, now. All you said about water and hydration (inside and out!) is very true. And I love your honesty. Thank you, so very much. I look forward to finding more of your videos. We really are women with so many of the same issues.

Amen dear ...i second that😊😊 oh after reading a few comments to you. i decided to edit my comment by adding a little more.So here goes ... Shut up does sound rude and harsh but, I dont think you was trying to be rude its just maybe no one has have ever explained.....shut up to the opposite of be quite. Which is a nicer way of saying it...you're only14 and it takes a village to raise a child...instead of her being nice about it .....it seems that she would rather attack you verbally than take the time to explain it to you the difference. My degree is in Mass Communication ..... When i was a young girl just starting college i used the same expression that you used.I know better now!!! Because growing up i only heard people in my community say shut up. I would also add that after she explained the difference to you she could have add a nice compliment on how proud she was that atlease you're taking the time at 14 to learn how to take care of you hair....and for as I'm concern 👍👍👍👍👍 my dear ✌......its not 🚀 science to grow hair. My hair went from not even touching my shoulders to the snap on my bra now......i was doing research on nutrition and stumbled across a well known fact .....i was so excited and decided to use it on myself.....and within 2 months i was totally amazed. Last day of Feb.2020 i will have a utube video titled...." Grow hair FAST its not ROCKET SCIENCE." So until then stay in school and listen to your parents it will pay off in the long run. Few more semesters and i will be graduating from Southern University. In Baton Rough,La and moving to Ghana.

When you busted out the accent you had me laughing. You are so right, I've been checking out the products for natural hair maintenance and there is so much and the naming is so long - so ridiculous. Keep it simple! Currently, my hair is in a low maintenance style cornrow extensions so my hair can grow to the length I want. When my hair gets to that length, I will be keeping it simple.

Thank You for sharing!! These have been the greatest tips! I feel like I can unfollow others & stick with you & 1 more. I love most your tips on BASIC, Natural Ingredients first. I switched to this years ago on my relaxed hair & started using 1 Ingredient Organic Coconut Oil, then added Seven Minerals Aloe Vera Gel. I am transitioning just because I don't want the chemicals. It's all about health & wellness. In 2017 when a loved one was diagnosed & survived cancer I went through what I put IN my body No soda in 3 years, No coffee, & eat mostly whole foods, & then continued to what I put ON my body from bath to cosmetics, & now I'm down to Bye Relaxer & finding a natural deoderent that works. I became a Vegetarian this year also. No Meat. Thank You, Again!

As a nurse, I notice that the majority of folks either don’t drink water or don’t drink ENOUGH. Drinking 2-3 liters a day is proper to make sure everything in your body gets what it needs. Your hair skin and nails are LAST to receive it. So maybe it needs to be a tip. Bc ppl really don’t get how important it is. Nor how much they need to drink.

This video was most helpful. I am also Natural and have been for 3 yrs now. I love being Natural. I don't put any heat on my hair at all. On very rare occasions I get my hair braided. I have gone through several hair products trying to see what works best for my hair. I will say that over time, just as you said I found that I did not have to add product "Cantu define and shine custard & "Shea Moisture Curling Gel Souffle" afterwards to give my already curly hair extra definition and moisture every day. Every morning while getting ready for work I use either a spray bottle or during my shower wet my hair. I recently incorporated an olive oil moisturizing lotion" African Pride" that I use at the end of my hair regime. Thank you so much for sharing Beautiful Lady. God Bless you.

You don't ever have to use a comb, get a (Wet Brush) Works on all hair type, hopefully everyone has heard of it, I don't care how many tangles you have how thick, how many knots, not dreads, it will brush through, put in detangler and brush you will be amazed, I'm a hairstylist and that brush was a God send for hairstylist.

So glad I just now found you! Like you I relaxed my hair for years, dyed it regularly, wore wigs or had my hair braided often. Frankly, I don't know why I FINALLY decided to be natural and take and take care of the hair God gave me. I did a bc several months ago and have been trying everything for faster growth. But, I love being natural and have no intention of going back to my old habits. I've even learned to love the grey hair coming in. I've made milestones in changing my attitude. I love this video and I thank you for sharing your success. I'll be tuning in often. Very wise advise.

@10:59 - I must say that I agree with you about trying different products and not knowing whether or not those particular ingredients agree with your hair. Today is my 2nd day of my natural hair journey, i’m transitioning but my hair is probably 80% natural. Anyways, I’ve been watching tons of videos on youtube and been adding items in my cart. But when you spoke on the products, it made me look at in a different perspective and instead of buying these products and spending a lot of money, I think I’ll just get maybe the travel size first or the mini.

Rita I just found your video and I applaud you for being very informative with clear concise information. My hair is natural and going through my growth process. I keep it simple and am seeing a lot of growth and strength. Because I work out daily, I rinse my hair every other day with just water and a bit of Apple cider vinegar once a week to clean my scalp. I keep moist by misting with a 1/3 cup of warm tea (horsetail and kettle or neem), drinking water and the rest of the the tea. Rest and nutrition is also essential. I keep my hair twisted and just leave it alone. I only undo my twist during the summer and for special events. Thank you for your video.

Oli Wood I’m glad you found the video helpful! An ACV rinse is something I’m yet to try but it’s definitely on my list 😊
@oliwoodnorth2371
@oliwoodnorth2371 6 лет назад
I simply add 1/4 cup of ACV into a spray bottle and spray my scalp. I use to have extremely dry nasty scalp and since I stopped using chemicals including shampoos, my scalp is as clean as can be and my hair always smell clean. Once a week I add nettle tea to my horsetail tea because nettle is good for circulation. sometimes I get a bit lazy and will add the castor oil to the tea for a one step moisturizing. And hon, I have a total ban on combs lol
@RitaOkolo
@RitaOkolo 6 лет назад
Oli Wood I think I’ve always just been nervous because of how strong ACV smells lol. I’ll definitely give it a try to see how my hair likes it. Thanks for the recommendation ❤️
@deirdregaskin465
@deirdregaskin465 6 лет назад
Oli Wood. You've been taking lots of positive steps to grow your hair longer. That's great. I've learned that the reason my hair grows so slowly is that I don't drink much water ( I keep forgetting to do so), and I haven't been working out due to the cold winter weather. However, I washed my hair last Sunday and decided, for the first time, to rinse it with ACV. I don't remember the ratio of water/ACV but it was a bad idea for me. My hair shrunk up much more than it normally does and became very dry and hard. So I won't do that again. I like your idea of spritzing with the Neem oil. I'll have to read up on the horsetail and nettle. Keep up the good work.

If u don’t have spilt ends or anything wrong with ur ends I don’t suggest cutting your hair bc ur rlly just cutting healthy hair and it is scientifically proven that cutting the tips of your hair has nothing to do with rate how your scalp produces hair. Sooo just a fact
@RitaOkolo
@RitaOkolo 5 лет назад
Shamoya Clemetson it’s not about the rate at which you scalp produces hair but rather the amount of total length you can RETAIN. If your hair is healthy and your ends are healthy, you probably don’t need a trim. However, split ends ultimately impact your length retention and should be trimmed.

I have soft hair and I love long hair but it doesn't seem to grow a certain length, and when it does it breaks off. I had curls, braids, weave, twists, relaxed hair, natural hair. It was told to me the older you get the texture of your hair changes. I want hair but I have the hardest time growing hair. It's very depressing I been to beauticians my hair does grow a certain time and after that, I just don't know what to do. I have been to Drs, it was told to me chemicals cause it. I heard about medicines, stress, and other issues. I dreamed of hair for all my life since I was a child, I just want hair like I see other women do so I don't have to wear wigs like I been doing for the last two years, they can take your hair out even when you wear them for a long time. I don't know what else to do. And I'm asking for help!! PLEASE HELP ME, SOMEONE!!!

Hi Rita! I enjoy your video. It is very informative and I must say that I cracked up at that pun you threw out there at the beginning with the "water tip" joke. HILARIOUS BUT SO TRUE! I had did the big chop a few years back (fades and all) and as of now, my natural has grown to a nice short fro. However, the front of my hair (like my bangs) will not grow as much as I would like to. I think it's because it may have contributed to me using different product every so often. I like my sleek back or baby hair look and plus, I have silver all around my front hairline so those gray hairs tend to be a bit stubborn to act right for me. But after watching this, I'll just have to suck it up and try my best to refrain from using that "blueberry bliss" edge control (as you have mentioned), pomades and gels. That is my huge drawback I believe. I always dreamed of having full long length hair in the front but just never had it.
@RitaOkolo
@RitaOkolo 6 лет назад
I’m glad you enjoyed my video! I’m interested in your case as well. It seems, from what you described, you have been exerting a bit of tension on your hairline. Do you wear your hair in buns or tighter updos? It may not just be the gel but also how tight your sleek styles are. You may not have to give up your Blueberry Butta Pecan (haha!). Maybe it’s your brush; if you wear sleek styles a lot you’ll need to make sure you are ONLY using the SOFTEST of brushes on your hairline (real Boar bristles only!!!). They difference is ASTRONOMICAL. I think I’ll do a video on this too. Also, what about a natural hair gel option? Maybe your current fav has too many ingredients and your hair just isn’t liking it. Naptural85 has really great recipes for Flaxseed hair gel. I hope this helps 💕
@swan11112
@swan11112 6 лет назад
+Rita Okolo Yes! This does help, thanks! You're probably right! I do in fact put tension to my hairline and use a hard bristle brush. But I will get a soft bristle just as you suggested and also try out that good ole flaxseed gel you was talking about. Someone else had suggested I start making/using my own flaxseed gel so I will check out Naptural's tutorial on how to whip that up. I would love to see you do a video on tips with loving/thickening the front of your Naptural! Thanks again!

Hi sister! Girl you are telling the truth. I've gone back to what I know works for my hair. It's so simple. Organics fair trade Shea butter, S curl texturized styling gel and sta-sof-fro. Suave shampoo and conditioner. The new products that's on the market is a total LIE. Those products leave your hair hard and crunchy. Old school products are better.
