This book was illustrated entirely on Procreate. Curious about what it takes to make an illustrated book? The Wild World Handbook Habitats is one of the latest books I illustrated. The book is the first of a series, The Wild World Handbook, and it was written by the amazing author Andrea Debbink and published by QuirkBooks. This handbook is a perfectly written middle-grade guide to environmental stewardship and aims to empower the next generation of conservationists and outdoor explorers. The book is filled with great and inspiring stories that will serve to motivate future generations to take action for the environment.

I really enjoyed the video! What do you recommend in terms of getting in the industry as an illustrator? Aside from submitting your work directly to publishing companies and reaching out to recruiters, are there any recommendations you have for being chosen to work as an illustrator for children's book?

Hi, my best advice would be to build a strong portfolio and body of work :) and you go from there. A good portfolio that represent your work is the best way. Hope it helps :)

Hi:) These illustrations are gorgeous🖤 I clicked on this video because I thought you would perhaps say something about exporting the files to cmyk, and how you plan to get enough bleed for print, but I really enjoyed watching your creative process:) After all, that is what's most interesting! I just started using procreate this winter, because my book is getting published and I get to illustrate it myself (:D) It's been so much fun, but man, it's also a struggle getting the files ready for print. I draw in cmyk, but procreate exports to rgb so all the files have to be prepped in photoshop by my editor (I have never used photoshop). And I can't seem to add enough bleed, like ever. Do you have a video on the more technical side of printing from procreate? If not, if you could consider making it, I think it would be super helpful:) Anyway, thanks for the inspiration!

Hi It's one illustration - the printing on separate pages is done by the editorial when binding the book 👍 you don't need to create the two pages separately

Oh, thanks. I am writing and illustrating my own books for self publish on Amazon. I know people use Adobe indesign, but I was looking for a way to do this without do a subscription with Adobe. I use Apple pages and each illustration has to be put in separately. Do you know how I could do this with for a free app or a reasonable price app without a subscription?

Hi Lisa, in my case the editorial houses are always in charge of printing. If I had to do self-publishing I would invest at least one month of subscription for InDesign or hire a graphic designer that specializes in self-publishing. At the end of the day you want your book to look the best possible, it’s an investment 👍

Hi thank you so much for the nice words 😊 the creation is a multi layer process, from the draft to the final color plus, the details. To be honest I don’t track the time, but I can tell it’s a good couple of hours 😉

Hi 👋 all of my work is done on Procreate, as so many professional artists use it, you see it in books, magazines, ads, Netflix, Amazon,Nike etc. It’s more than capable to create professional work and it’s getting better every year, with animation and cool features. Now they incorporated 3D modeling. Anyways at the end of the day, it's just a tool, and I recommend you use the one you are most comfortable working with 😊

It works the same, now it's a global market 👍 just build a portfolio and body of work and the clients will find you ⚡️
