3 words that will save your joints in the long term: *SLOW, CONTROLLED ECCENTRICS.* This allows you to get a full ROM whilst eliciting the same/better stimulus to the muscle with less weight, which allows you to be more consistent.

I'm an older lifter myself and i can say that injuries come and go. I've fixed many issues with targeted exercise with the use of resistance bands. Shoulder issues are gone and now I ease back into free weights. Hope this helps, cheers.

I’ve just discovered resistance bands after years of recurring tendinitis issues. I’ve done high reps like 200 and foam rolling seemed to help. How often would you do the high rep band work on a joint that hurts?

I am 53 and I also do not have problems with my joints. Heavy is the way but you must now 'bounce' the weight. You must stretch in between sets. Yes. Joint support supplementation helps as well. Also balance in your exercises. Push/pull exercises equal. Also plenty of rest between workouts to recover. : )

I’ve been lifting since 15 now 52. My joints snap crackle and pop all the time. I focus on more slow and controlled reps and sets and adjust my exercises to what I feel is working. No ego lifting anymore. Also I work with a good chiropractor and get adjustments regularly.

I' am 58 years old. I bodybuilded and powerlifted (bench, squat, & deadlift) all through teens and twenties. Nartural Stats: 50inch chest, 34inch waist, 405lb bench, 700lb squat, 650lb deadlift. I weighed 225lb 5'10. I gave it up and started running. I distance ran until a year ago. I obvious lost my muscle - I weigh 195lb and my joints especially my knees are not good from running. I have torn my meniscus several times and my right knee is arthritic and now I went back to the gym. My joints are doing better because I strengthen my joints by lifting again. The moral to my story - pay attention to your joints. Lifting weights, eating right, and resting helps. It is a proven medical fact the human body does not regenerate meniscus, so I'm left with a knee that is not so good, but certainly feels better when I get a good pump from lifting. I loved running 10k's and 1/2 marathons and every doctor will tell you it's the skinny old man who lives the longest not the big weightlifter. I will try a little of both.

Most people acquire injuries from outside the gym, even if it flares up at the gym. Overall poor posture and being unaligned, or a contact injury. PT's aren't assessing how good people's alignment is then giving a corrective program before going onto a muscle building program. They just give a generic program, one size fits all. Even with perfect form, there will be wear and something will give. You have to do the correct excercises and flexibility work to loosen shit up and strengthen really weak small muscle groups. Then there is being shown proper form. It's probably surprising there isn't more injuries. Those that start lifting because of injuries tend to be the ones that don't have injuries
@scribbler1100
@scribbler1100 Год назад
To give Mike his due credit, his form is impeccable and that is no doubt a factor in joint health. But the truth is also that cartilage susceptibility to wear and tear is 50 per cent genetic and he has clearly been lucky with that. Many people training his way, very heavy singles etc, would have some significant joint degeneration by the time they hit mid 50s for sure.

I had bone cancer when I was younger so my bones & joints are weaker than most people. I am a retired bodybuilder. I've been bodybuilding for 9-10 years. I quit/retired so that my bones, joints, & muscles would repair correctly. Most people, after they stop bodybuilding either lose muscle or gain fat. Well, in my case; I kept my muscles & gained no fat & stayed at 120-125 pounds. Must be good genetics.

Still a load of idiots think this way though.... Douchette comes to mind. I argued with a kid on here recently who literally said O'Hearn was "DANGEROUS" for promoting NATURAL BODYBUILDING. What's the danger? People might be disappointed they don't have the same genetics as Mike? Well no kidding--roids wouldn't help there anyway. The point is that you become the best YOU can be, and do it in a HEALTHY way! Obviously Mike is telling the truth otherwise he would not be 54 and doing 400lb incline bench, 315 squat for birthday reps, etc. Roids would have ruined Mike and burned him out decades ago. The guy built his body in his youth and just KEPT GOING WITH IT. Clearly, the natural path is the superior one, but it isn't for everybody--that's true. Not everybody loves to train. Many just want a generic Instant Hulk Body (TM) and don't care what they have to sacrifice to get it. But if you go natural and stay that way long enough, you can have the size AND your health, AND not be addicted to drugs in order to keep your gains for the long term.
