A couple of key factors help me to know when to start my seeds.
* What is my growing zone? ( you can find this through a quick internet search with your zip code)
* When is my last frost date for my area?
* When is my first frost date in the Autumn?
* What information can I find on the back of the seed packet?
Here’s where I purchase most of my seeds:

You're right warm weather plants are pretty easy...but the cool weather growing is altogether different, one reason is it spans two seasons, both spring and fall😂 and it can definitely 'be tricky " ... right up until it isn't 🤔 luckily. Lisa's book is a great resource, it helps us learn how to apply those same principles to plants that aren't in the book. I keep learning more and more every year and you're right again, we never totally have it all figured out... that's part of the wonder of gardening... learning as we grow. Great topic, thanks.

Hi Bobbi! Good information that you are sharing. Last year was the first year that I started my plants by seed. I really liked doing it and I don't see me ever not doing it. I haven't used the seed block technique and I think it's something I might be interested in. This year I'm planting more flowers so maybe I can make some bouquets, yours are so beautiful!

Hi Bobbi, I'm still so new to seed starting, even though it's my third year trying. Cool annuals were super confusing but I am hoping I cracked it this year! The change in USDA growing zones also threw me into loop. I'm now in 7B but April 7 seems way too early for a last frost date. I did some more research and people recommended adding a week for safe measures. April 15 sounds much more realistic and buys me more time.

I agree! Push it out to April 15th just to be on the safe side! I’m sure you will have a great year of growing beautiful flowers! I am loving Lisa Mason Ziegler’s new book The Cut Flower Handbook. It goes into a lot of great detail!!

Hi Bobbi. I've been garden for over 40 years(im 71). I have the book and am still very confused. So it says, hardy to zone 7, how do I know a zip code for zone 7? (So I can figure out a last frost date). Therefore I usually give up and plant according to my own schedule in zone 5. I really do love your garden, your style and your videos. Thanks Glenda

Hi Glenda! You are doing correctly by planting according to your own growing zone. When a plant says it is hardy to zone 7, it means that the plant can survive being planted out earlier than it could in your zone 5. For instance, I am in zone 6b so my planting time is probably 1 to 2 weeks sooner than yours. Zone 7 frost date is sometime around April 15th. If you want to know frost dates for certain zones, you can do an internet search by typing in “ what is the last frost date for zone 7”. I hope this helps! I really appreciate your support of my channel!
